Gaming PlayStation 5

Have they only just caught the news? Obviously some other reason behind it.

Not sure how the two correlate?! I’m assuming it was going to be a virtual event without attendees?

That sucks.

Gutted but I guess with what’s recently happened over across the Atlantic with George Floyd and the mass riots, Sony probably knew they weren’t going to get as much media attention as they would have wanted for this event.

No offence, but what does this have to do with what’s happening? This is what gamers needed, something that’s not about the virus or the Riots. Some good fun and excitement. Gutted about the news. But yeah I can understand why.

Marketing. Riots across America are a huge story and they will get less traction.

Same reason EA postponed their Madden trailer.
It was also recently announced that the memorial service would be on Thursday - same day as PS5 event. They wouldn't want to detract from that.

I read a rumour that what they were going to show wasn’t going to be that great anyway, like it was going to be Ubisoft and EA stuff, which to be fair aren’t the kind of things that are supposed to blow you away.

If they’re not going to have cool shit from a dev like FromSoft, Capcom or Platinum then just don’t do it because everyone rolls their eyes at sports shit, generic as feck Tom Clancy squad based FPS and the latest Assassins Creed these days. People want potential killer apps like Bloodborne 2 or Resident Evil 8 that makes use of PSVR.

So the cynic is me is thinking theyre possibly worried about the feedback they’d get for a potentially weak show and what better excuse to use than what is currently happening in the States...

Yeah, nah I don't buy that. They saw the reaction to the Inside Xbox. They know what people would be wanting and they've had time to put together a good show before announcing the date. Postponing would have been one of the last things they would have wanted to do with potential third party announcement marketing timings and whatnot but the event would have literally been on at around the same time as the memorial service.

https://abc7ny.com/society/george-floyds-funeral-set-for-next-tuesday-in-houston/6225347/

That says memorial service is at 1pm local time which is 7pm UK time. PS5 event would have been at 9pm UK time.

There is likely going to be some marketing stuff from agreements with third parties like EA and Ubisoft but they're not suddenly going to say "this is a bad idea, we will drop it". That would have been in the pipeline for way before the initial event announcement and isn't going to change. Likewise they are not going to suddenly conjure a new first party game presentation out of nowhere. That kind of stuff would have been planned a long time ago.

Wonder what the chances now are of the actual console being leaked?
I'm not an expert on computermatrons but is it possible that a hacker has leaked the console online and you can download it on to your phone so obviously that'll be bad for sales and stuff since folk will just "digitally download" the PS5? Just saying...

There’s a lot of excitement at the moment and Sony have done well to build suspense but if they wait too long then people become frustrated. Obviously I don’t know how long the delay is planned for but hopefully it’s not going to annoy people.

Come on people. Delay will be a few weeks at most.

Production of the console is starting this month. That reveal was pretaped. So all it takes is one leaker to leak the event, so the longer they wait the more chance of that happening.

I doubt Sony wanted PS5 news flushed out when the memorial is happening.

There are tons of events happening in the next few weeks to cover for E3. PS5 is coming this year. A few extra weeks to see a lot of games that probably won’t even come out this year won’t hurt.

Can’t imagine the delay would be that long, I think it’s fair to allow other stories to take centre stage at the moment. Wouldn’t be surprised to see it next week or the one after.

Nonetheless I doubt the show is going to be particularly brilliant, I can’t imagine it will show anything particularly different to what Xbox has done.

I think we will see the hardware, with a selection of games such as AC and FIFA. There maybe an exclusive or 2 in there but nothing ground breaking. Possibly a trailer for the new Horizon for maybe late 2021 release. I would personally like to see the UI, might get to see that. I’m not sure we will get an exact release date or price point at this event.

People shouldn't get annoyed at such meaningless things.

Forget everything else that's going on in the world. TrustInJanuzaj is getting annoyed, Sony, stop keeping him waiting and announce the PS5 already, you selfish pricks.

Mate chill out I’m literally not annoyed. I’m just saying it’s going to be interesting, I’ve already seen many people online kicking off. I couldn’t really care less I have the money and I’ll probably pick it up whatever.

Watching all the Flight Simulator videos floating around, and I'm tempted to go for the latest xBox than PS5

At this point, if I was them, I would just wait for The Last of Us and GOT to come out and then just have a big event where you just announce everything: the price, the design, and the games. Dragging it out at this point doesn't make sense. People are going to buy it (or not going to buy it) regardless of when you drip-feed them information.

Retailers want info. The design is going to be leaked in the next few weeks if they wait another month, which would be embarrassing for them.

The conference they did has been prerecorded. No point just sitting on it. There will also be third party games on that and they’d want Sony to show their games because they’d probably signed marketing contracts with Sony.

Hard to see myself ever switching over Xbox. I've always found their originals to be extremely boring. Nintendo seem to have good original franchises but they'd only ever be a second console option should I ever go for one again. So, as things stand, I'll undoubtedly be going for PlayStation again.

Agreed and for me it’s also the argument about Software vs Hardware with Sony having made just straight up mode reliable consoles over the years. I have always been lucky (touch wood) that I bought a single ps3 (which still works) and a single PS4. Both have had a tonne of playtime and still work perfectly which I know for a fact never happened with my friends Xbox’s. Red ring of death seemed to kill every single 360.

More people want assassins creed than psvr. And I say that as someone who doesn't like assassins creed.

Means nothing.... Most people don't even know what psvr is let alone how it works and if it's something they would want....
