Gaming PlayStation 5

It's not even a actually a full fecking remaster. And it's tacked on to something that isn't a full game being priced as such.

How many times can the point be missed?
Smores clearly hasn't bothered to read up on it and is just defending Sony cause.. um.. Sony?

Well, we do know.
https://www.ign.com/articles/ps5-spider-man-miles-morales-expansion-not-sequel

I'm not demanding it to be bolted on. I believe
A) it shouldn't have been charged as a full price game
B) if you have the PS4 version you should get the free upgrade and not have to buy it on top of a full priced expansion.

It's a money grab. Feck Sony.

I'm still not sure from that but I'll be waiting for the reviews either way. If it's 30+ hours plus it's basically a full game even if it's a shared world.

I really don't get why you think it should be a free upgrade but yeah it would be brilliant if all studios had to provide free upgrades. Are you actually desperate to play it again but upgraded?

This is exactly what I shake my head at with people just willing to buy into any old shit that will ultimately affect the future of how these things go.

It's one thing to not understand, but it's another to be wilfully ignorant and yet STILL pick a side and defend it. It's like trying to convey a point on twitter sometimes

Coming back to this is the expectation now that every game we've bought should have a new remaster for free? And not just be playable on next gen consoles?

That is how the worst gaming companies in the world EA and Ubisoft are doing it. MS are upgrading all their games for free. So yeah, it should be. Even better you shouldn’t have to pay £70 to play it either. Why not release it on its own? Imagine EA telling everyone you can only get Fifa 21 on PS5, if you buy the ultimate edition on PS4.

Also Miles morales isn’t just playable on PS5, if you bought it on PS4. You get a nice next gen upgrade. I think that went over your head too. So now tell me why couldn’t they do the same for the original?

Keep defending stupid practices though because your favourite box does them. 505 games did the exact same shit with Control and rightly got shit on.

There's no getting through.

30+ hours, what are you on about? The first game wasn't even 30+ hours! From everything they've said it is CLEARLY a shorter game than the first. It's a fecking standalone expansion, I can't even remember the last time a company had the balls to go and charge full price for one of those.

I also never said it should be free, but like, when 3rd party companies like EA and Activision are doing it.. I mean.. you know.. you know!

Anyway I think you just haven't a clue what you're on about and need to read up on why people are justifiably pissed.

I can see why Xbox fans hate Sony fans. Bunch of numpties. I bet you religiously buy Apple products and wank yourselves to sleep over them, too.

Sony fans are dicks with a false sense of superiority (until you mention PC lol), but Xbox fans are oblivious children who are always offended by something.

But there, like in everything, is some spill over

Should have seen the Xbox crew trying to defend MS' always online policy when they announced the Xbox One :wenger:

Truuuuuue. Also, the defence Kinect 2.0 was a fun time.

Sony and MS should be discouraging this sort of stuff. Tell publishers to make use of their smart delivery system. Otherwise, what is the point of it?

Charging for old games from the PS3/360 era which are remastered/remade, I am ok with. As you can’t play PS3 games on PS4 or PS5. So something like Demon’s Soul it’s all good. But upgrades for PS4 games should be free like they on PC. Why do console players defend whenever their companies make a shitty move? Especially when such things are free on PC.

Aren't Activision following a similar path as Insomniac with the new COD? You have to buy the deluxe edition to get the "free" upgrade.

I know right? It's pathetic, especially when everyone knows that PC is much better and that is a fact and anyone who tries to tell me otherwise is wrong and lame.

Are we really going to call them "remasters" again? They should be called upgrades, similar to Pro patches. We aren't asked to pay extra money for Pro patches, are we? Same thing. If a studio/publisher decides not to do a next-gen upgrade, fair enough, certainly for slightly older titles. But the platform holder asking us to pay again for an upgrade of a 2 year old game, which you can't even get unless you buy its standalone spin-off, should not be acceptable. Are you really looking forward to a generation of overpriced "remasters" again? This isn't a PS3 vs PS4 situation anymore, where the architectures were wildly different.

You can rightfully call them out on the games they do slighty upgrade, then charge for but only on top of an expansion priced as a full AAA game. That's fair I think.

No shock there. CoD has always been a rip off.

@MaxiPaxi

To be fair I agree Sony seem to have had a really bad week since the price announcement. Putting what they touted as PS5 exclusives on PS4, this whole Spiderman debacle, and the pre-ordering fiasco amongst other things. They really need to listen to the feedback and act on it.

If they're not going to upgrade Spiderman for free it should at the very least be available as a stand-alone game rather than being packaged with MM with a £70 price tag.

Yes,

  • Forza Horizon 4 is getting “higher fidelity graphics,” 4K / 60fps gameplay, Quick Resume, and faster load times
  • Gears 5 will see faster load times, Quick Resume, and “Ultra” setting 4K HDR graphics for both campaign and multiplayer modes
  • Ori and the Will of the Wisps is getting higher-fidelity graphics and faster performance (120fps / 4K HDR / 120Hz)
  • Sea of Thieves willtake advantage” of the “advanced hardware” on the Xbox Series X, although Microsoft didn’t give specific details. It is the only one in the group to have a more specific release date, though: the optimized upgrade will be available on launch day alongside the Series X.
  • Gears Tactics will offer 4K / 60fps gameplay

There’s more and more should be added post launch.

Unfortunately I think that would be even worse, then it sets a precedent that all first party publishers can do the same and I'd expect to see it done with GOW, Horizon, TLOU2 etc. then.

I get that some of these games are a few years old now and maybe the publishers don't want to be dedicating resources to something that won't make them any money but Sony either need to commit to leaving the PS4 versions as they are - PS4 version playable on PS5 - or having their publishers release patches for free. To me the latter would seem like a really smart move as surely it'd encourage a lot of people to buy the PS5 early on whilst the games list is small.

They have to do something anyway because the backlash over this Spiderman debacle is going to be bad.

The whole "these PS5 games will also be available on PS4" thing was very disappointing. May sound a bit silly, but I'm actually looking forward less to Horizon 2 when I read that.

My question is, what are the big scale changes going to be to the PS5 edition of Spiderman? presumably you'll be able to run your PS4 version in 4k and at a solid frame rate. Will the enhanced version just be a FPS upgrade or are they reworking the textures and such also? 70 quid seems mad unless they're truly upgrading the games visuals.

That 70 quid includes Miles Morales which is considered a full price game for some reason, but even then it's still terrible value in my opinion. And I can't see the enhancements being that deep. I doubt it's suddenly going to have ray-traced global illumination or anything.

If you buy the ultimate edition you get a code inside the box for the upgraded original game. So it’s not even a disc. It could easily be made available on PSN.

But hey ho, let’s give EA and co more ideas. They’d probably put Mass Effect remastered on next gen, but add multiplayer to it and brand it as a new game with these new features. So people who bought it on PS4 will have to pay again.

Well i personally don't buy them and i don't see who does except those who haven't played them yet. I buy a game for a console and I've never really expected that means I'll get all future versions across generations. It's just an odd concept to me, i was impressed all this years games were getting ported across.

I took the news as a decent offering for those who haven't played it yet but apparently this thread is full of people who want to play the original again and are very angry about it.

Been on PCs for ages, so wrong again.

These boxes are effectively PCs. Only person who is getting worked up is you defending bullshit practices. Even @esmufc07 has ditched you.

Cheers. That all sounds super dodgy, not sure how anyone could get behind that no matter what side you're on.

Some models and textures are being scaled up/redone, some new settings, but it's not a full remaster.

MM is also not a new AAA game. It's the same game/engine upgraded and with a new storyline.

Whatever way you look at it, that price is steep. On top of that, charging a premium for the slightly upgraded PS4 game (rather than just releasing it as others are doing) is bad. The joke is not even having that upgrade seperate at all knowing full well people will pay the extra on top of the over priced MM game.

Still to this day, after all my moaning on here about dodgy practices in the industry, I still am surprised by people who defend this stuff  (not aimed at you obviously! Just in general how much bullshit people will overlook)

Is this the Smart Delivery thing? What's the deal here are they playing improved because of the hardware or are they actually upgraded by the studios?

They are actual updates by the studios. To what degree depends on who's doing it. It also includes stuff like patches too.

Both sets of hardware will play the standard games better in some ways, largely resolution and framerate.

This is much better than what PS are doing. At least they’re giving their loyal player base something to play rather than using backwards compatible games as a selling point, which has been available on Xbox for like ever.

Xbox have a dedicated BC team, who been upgrading games all the way from the original Xbox since they announced BC on the Xbox one. All the Splinter Cell games from the original Xbox got a Xbox one x upgrade.

 I've actually no interest in playing the original again, it's not a particularly replayable game. I probably would've bought MM but not a hope I'll pay that much for it.

I'm not "angry" about anything, just pointing out that Sony are being money grabbing cnuts. You're the one getting weirdly defensive about a multi-billion dollar corporation.

PS5 doesn’t have the hardware to run 4K60 with RT effects on. New 3080 card can barely do that with Control. As I said all along, they’ll need to do some wizardry to make games run 40K60. It will more than likely be some form of checkerboard rendering with dynamic resolution again.
