Gaming PlayStation 4 (Console)

With the cloud based backward compatiability, have they said whether you would need to re-purchase the games?

I'm guessing that for digitally purchased games no, but disc based ones yes, unless there's a way to authenticate a disc that's put in

I want some sort of button that will let me share things.

Most games are going to be designed with the weakest of the two systems in mind anyway, if one of them is far more powerful than the other it'll only really be seen in first party games and the very occasional exclusives.

The problem I have with this whole "Let's make gaming social" approach is that when I game, its because I don't want to be social. If I want social gaming I'll have some mates over and play splitscreen Halo. I've never found myself playing Bioshock and going "Oh yeah I'd totally like to stop what I'm doing right now, and upload a 10 second clip of myself shooting something to my friends instead." Just seems like a way to break the immersion. I suppose it depends on the type of game you like to play though.

Right Lambo, what's stopping people running this software on a bog-standard PC?

Ah, you took your time to Weaste this up! I can understand why, it is tough to work your plan out on this one, but I was beginning to think it wouldn't happen!

Anyway you'll notice I defended you a lot post conference (when you were hiding like a wimp ;)), so just take it easy with the convincing people to buy one of these (if they are unsure) and I'll let you do your thang!

What's with the lame SHAREbutton jokes?

You already answered that. We have to laugh or I'll cry.

PS4 is going to be ridiculously fast.

Yes! Weaste is back, so my favourite part has begun

Full specifications have not been shown/published yet. ;)

That 8GB thing though caught a lot of 3rd party developers by surprise. It's fecking nuts!

Oh, really? :rolleyes::lol:

Right, so he's moved on from wanking about Cell to knocking one off over the extra RAM?

That and there's something else not come out yet that he's going to try to use to make it really look once again like it's AMAZEBALLS!!!!!! :smirk:

I want to hear his thoughts on the controller and 'features' (cloud, Backwards compatability, etc...) though. But I won't push it, I'll let others ask

I'm the exact opposite.

If I wanted to play a single player game, I'd play it on PC. Fallout and Skyrim, Half Life and Doom, Kerbal Space Program and Black and White. I might use the PC for multiplayer gaming too, Minecraft, Starcraft, etc, but mostly I play single player games on it.

The console however, is entirely for social gaming. FIFA with a few mates round, COD Zombies with the girlfriend, COD online with the mates, Little Big Planet, BLUR (fudging brilliant and broken), Rayman etc. It's all about the social aspect.

I'll never use the share button (probably), but I can see the appeal. Do an amazing kill? SHARE it. And yes, I know how much stick I am about to take.

No stick here at all this time matey. That's all fair enough.

(well apart from owning a gaming PC, but playing multi-player on a fecking console! But of course that's cause your mates on there ;) )

Well yes, but its also because you don't get split screen on a PC.

I wish I could have shared some Halo kills. Just who the hell watches other people's gaming footage? We're hardly talking the likes of Tyson and their greatest KOs. It's not even as interesting as happy slapping clips. See that kid? Pow!

I think we're actually similar then. I'm planning on building a gaming PC this summer. Never had one in the past but its slowly dawned on me that for immersive single player escapism, PC is the best platform. When I eventually get that PC I imagine that's where I'll do most single player gaming, and I'll keep a console around for FIFA and such.

For someone who doesn't have a gaming PC though the idea of everyone watching you play and interacting with you in whatever way is a bit annoying. Say I'm playing Deus Ex HR and head to the clinic to update my augmentations, and someone watching chimes in with a "No stop don't do that, its a trick and makes the final boss much harder!"... Its just not what I want from a gaming experience.

I remember I saved the video of a 'goal' from FIFA 2003(?) where playing as Spurs the shot hit the side netting but the ref gave it. SHAREd it with my friends but they weren't impressed.

I can honestly say I've never recorded or watched a single video like that

But the sad thing overall, is this generation is just a stepping stone, almost like a half-generation, to the future of gaming. And it's horrible.

I'd like to know the creative genius behind these game and industry changing ideas. I reckon they could've done immensely better after a session on the best 'erbs.

Could be Weaste?

SHAREbuttons, flashing porno lights and PC-innards sounds well up his street.

Plus, wasn't he a huge fan of cloud gaming and not having backwards compatibility?

Hehehe :smirk:
