Gaming PlayStation 4 (Console)

What is going on this gen that's causing them to continually underestimate when games will be finished?

Delays don't bother me at all but surely developers and Sony should be wary by now of announcing a date when it seems clear games are taking longer to get to a finished product. Especially with Gran Turismo, when they announced it was a 2016 game I immediately thought there was no chance of it releasing this year, the fact that it was performing poorly during Gamescom just solidified that thought.
Pressure from publishers. I am sure devs would like to have much more time on projects but deadlines are usually set by people who have 0 knowledge about development process...

GT has never arrived on time anyway has it?

I also think this may be something to do with VR capabilities

I don't have much hope for this Gran Turismo anyway. It disappointed on PS3 and will disappoint some more on PS4. Can't believe they are yet to release a single next gen game when there have already been two Forzas.

September PS+ Games

Lords of the Fallen, PS4
Journey, PS4, PS3
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, PS3
Datura, PS3
Badland, PS Vita, PS4, PS3
Amnesia: Memories, PS Vita

I've completed Lords of The Fallen, it's a fairly decent Bloodborne-lite type of game & definitely worth a go, Journey is obviously pretty great and should be played.

Glad its not more indie trash

Has anyone picked up inside yet? Got rave reviews for the Xbox One. Also nice to see Resident Evil 4 in the store.

Yeah, inside is brilliant, didn't think I liked that type of game but found it amazing for some reason. Creepy too.

Anyone else still feel like the home menu's etc are just needlessly cluttered and annoying to navigate? Much preferred the simplicity of the PS3. Are there any configurable options to keep it simple?

Did the last gen have so many remasters during initial years?

Red Dead Redemption HD could be coming out.

God of War Collection.

The early years on the PS3 were very barren.

In the first 2 years, we had (from the best sellers list):

MGS 4, GTA IV, Uncharted, GT5 Prologue, Motorstorm, Resistance Fall of Man, Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction.

And COD 4 Modern Warfare.

Motorstorm, GT 5 Prologue and Resistance don't deserve to be there. In the first couple of years, I didn't really use my PS3 that much as there just weren't the games for it. Modern Warfare, was the turning point I think.

I thin it's fine to have a couple of remasters early on. But come on Rockstar, it's time for RDR 2

What the feck have Rockstar been doing for the last 3 years, honestly? GTAV for new gen was largely done when they made it for PS3 and 360 and only needed some remastering, most of trailers had already been captured at Xbox One and PS4 when they were showing them ahead of initial release. Adding stuff to GTA Online is fine but I cannot imagine it takes up all their resources. It's been 3 years since PS4 was released and they have not released a single game. If they're now going to release an RDR remaster instead of actually going for a new game it's nuts.

True, I only really used PS3 heavily from 2010 onwards. Summer 2010 was strong with RDR, Mafia 2 and Heavy Rain.

They made $500m off GTA online, so aren't in any rush.

Well, that's nice but they're game developers who created some of the best games of the previous two generations - I'd imagine they are more ambitious than that. Were any of them working with Mafia 3 folks or are these two completely separate teams? They both belong to Take Two but 2K and Rockstar seem to be separate entities.

Probably looking to create a way of selling games now other people make now, so they can just retire

And?

Did you see what they did to Leslie Benzies?

They literally screwed him out of millions in terms of royalty money. So yeah Rockstar do care about all the money GTA online is generating. They haven't even released story DLC for it because they don't have to.

GTA also is in the NPD charts every month. Literally everybody who buys a new console tends to buy GTA with it.

I am actually starting to hate people on the caf. I mean, seriously, you think a game developer is here to make you happy? They're there for the money for the most part.

Regarding RDR2 it'll be in the works but why announce shit? You will only moan "oh it's been 2 years since it was announced but its still not here"... But if they release it soon " fecks sale it's broken, why release a broken game?" They just can't win.

RDR remaster is the perfect stop gap, let's those who played the first replay with better graphics and stuff, also lets those who never played it play it for the first time. Then roughly a year or so later release RDR2 and they get massive sales. (Obviously milking sales from rdr remaster too).

I don't really follow what is happening with them. I just find it bizarre that a developer this big is happy to sit on a pile of money a game they developed 3 years ago is making them and will not continue making actual games when they have two or three of the most lucrative titles they can use including possibly the biggest of all time in GTA.

I agree with this, those GTA online is the money maker for rockstar. They're going to struggle getting the online right for rdr2 IMO. Vehicles, guns, etc are what people.spend shark cards on in gta, also apartments. There just isn't the variety in the wild west modern times to make this kind money for them.

Yep, I think game developer's purpose is making people happy. People play for fun.

It won't be a year. Their cycles are quite long, if they don't announce a new title this year it won't be until 2018 before they release it. This likely means that another GTA will be 2020-2022 which for me would be disappointing.

Allow me to be disappointed for not getting a single release from one of my favourite developers who I know have actual resources to make games instead of rehashing old stuff.

They are doing a new project. But they not rushing it as they don't have to. If GTA online was dying then they would accerate plans. But the last two GTA games were announced early and suffered from delays. GTA IV was supposed to be out in 2007. GTA V was supposed to be out in early 2013.

Also their cycles maybe long. But how do you know they not making GTA also now too? Rockstar San Diego worked on Red Dead with help from North. The next GTA could easily be out a year after Red Dead. They have like 1000 employees working at Rockstar. That is more than enough to carry out two projects or more.

You also forgetting they worked on LA Noire and Max Payne in between the last Red dead and GTA.

To be fair my post was partly directed at you, but not totally. It's getting to be a regular thing here.

If you honestly think game developers are there to let people have fun you're wrong. There are a few companies made of genuine gaming enthusiasts... (CDPR) but for the most part these companies are money men, fat cata behind a desk, paying shite wages vs the work done, and wanting unrealistic deadlines.

This is why Indies are getting more and more popular, made by gamers for gamers, not for profit, but for enjoyment and bringing their idea into the scene.

Seen a few videos on YouTube to clean it tempted to take it apart and try it

I've also been considering it, then again I'm also considering buying the 4.5 which shouldn't be thaaaaat far off, so I'm in a pickle.

Hopefully they pull off a surprise

If it's just a console that will look better with a 4K TV, it'll be a real let down

If got a whole bunch of vouchers burning a hole in my pocket and if it's a good upgrade and they do a deal with VR I might just go for it

What do you mean by surprise?

It's widely known to be a upgraded PS4. They hardly going to unveil the PS5 tomorrow.
