Gaming PlayStation 4 (Console)

Why do we call demos "betas" now? They're not fecking betas if they're finished fecking products that are being demoed, even if it's only to a few people. It really makes my anti-marketing department bones shake with uncontrollable rage.

You need to chill out - maybe sit back with a nice cold Budweiser (King of Beers®)

A game like The Division is a beta though. You are testing the servers to see if they can withstand the amount of people on the server. There was a game breaking bug on the PC version which they found due to the Beta.

PlayStation VR is the only way I'd get on the VR train. Now i own a decent but not top of the line PC (i5 4590 + GTX970) but the Vive and Rift are both too expensive for me. I suspect this will be the case for most people as well.

Have copied this post from NeoGaf:

Dr.Richard Marks had a talk about PSVR at the Vision AR/VR Summit last week. The video has now been released online:

Some details as I watch:
  • *<18ms super low latency thanks to fixed hardware.
  • 100degree FOV.
  • Console effectively ~60% more powerful than same-spec PC (as reported by middleware providers, not Sony).

The team from Epic (Nick & Tom) have also stated the same in at least one of their VR Twitch streams. If your app runs at 90Hz on a PC with a gtx970 then you should be very close to 60 on the ps4. And with the 120Hz reprojection applied it's glassy smooth."

  • Reprojection was previously on as an option but now Sony has made it permanently on as it has no down-sides (contra keeping it off).
  • The breakout box doesn't touch the signal between the PS4 and the PSVR, just takes it post and warps it for TV. The only thing it feeds to the PSVR is the 3D audio which it *does* process. No PS4 GPU/CPU cycles spent on Audio.
  • Reconfirms that the only new hardware is the PSVR hmd itself, the rest is what's already in the market (PS4 camera, PS Move, DS4).

Here's a video of the 'Disc Battle' demo that had an hardware error during PSX keynote (here's how it is when working):

Gonna flop worse than 3d

I don't think it will - VR is not aimed at the mass market audience right now. The cost of the PSVR unit (which will be around the price of a new console) - and the min spec of the PC needed to run VR via the Rift both point to this fact.

I think the current tech is JUST good enough to be able to deliver a good VR experience. For me, VR won't truly establish itself until it can deliver PS4-quality visuals, which means the PS5 will be a more suitable platform than the current gen.

I am exited to see what PSVR will deliver - am going to pre-order whenever it becomes available - but it is still in early adopter phase right now. It's not at the point when it can deliver my dream of GTA Online in VR

For the future of VR the price point Sony set is going to be huge. I read HTC's headset is around £700...I mean that's already DoA they should just scrap it.

Far from it, that comes with the full compliment of touch controls and room tracking. It's the much better deal compared to the Rift. PSVR is likely to be the cheapest option out there. As others have said, they're not targeting mass market immediately like they did with 3d and motion control. VR will be around for the foreseeable.

It's not DOA for those who want the best available - HTC are targeting a very small segment of the gaming population. The Rift is aiming at a larger segment, while the PSVR will have the broadest appeal / attractiveness.

But even so, as was said above, they are not looking at mass market. Sony has a huge userbase with the PS4, but they are certainly not expecting everyone to rush our and buy the PSVR.

Yeah, spot on. Give it 2-3 years and the price will be at the more affordable end of the spectrum and will then get opened up to the more casual gamers.

But if the price is not feasible for the masses, why would developers want to spend money to make AA VR titles?

Some have mentioned how full HD TVs used to cost something like how the Vive and Rift are priced and cite this when they say it's only a matter of time before VR is mainstream, but watching TV isn't a new thing. HDTVs were an expected progression of an old established media that everyone uses. VR is an entirely new thing for most people.

One of the reasons why the Rift was so well received during the DKs was its relatively low cost of entry, promising to tap into the mass market who developers can then sell VR games to.

I think Sony's VR and it's pricing could be a crucial point in VR future.

PSVR price point will be huge for the immediate future of VR but I think it'll cost more than people will be hoping for and might be a few years before they kick off.

Xbox has decent ones this month aswell iirc, batters the PS offerings all over. Rocket league was easily the best PS free game and that was ages ago now

Yeah they have been disappointing since then. Mind you the PS Store had some amazing deals a couple of weeks ago. Plants v Zombies was down to £6.39 NHL 2016 was £12 and Rory McIlroy PGA golf was £12 and Madden 2016 was £9, only as Valentines Day specials though, they went back up a day or so later.

You're getting those same deals on the Xbox store too though. PS does get some decent offers but I would have to say deal wise Xbox is doing a better job at the moment. I've got some crackers on Ps still though, uncharted collection was one of them.

Look at Parmo trying to justify the Xbox because he still hasn't found his PS4.

Right guys, I've run out of space on my PS4. Has anyone upgraded their Hard Drive? If so, did you use the Seagate/Samsung 2TB one? If so, do you get that beeping noise?

Yes, Seagate and yes I get the bleeping now and then.
I upgraded mine last summer (I think, could have been earlier). Nothing to worry about.
Hmm. I guess I will try it and see. Some people on HUKD say if you change the settings to give power to the USB ports all the time, the beeping might go away.

I'm surprised there aren't more 2TB drives available in this form factor.
