Gaming PlayStation 4 (Console)

Apparently Red Dead Redemption is available on the Xbone, any such plans for backward compatibility on the PS4?

No, PS3 was such a unique architecture, that it'll take huge effort to emulate it on the PS4. They have the PS Now streaming service but unless they release a PS4 with essentially a PS3 inside, disk based backwards compatibility won't happen.

Wankers! Worth posting in here that I bought a used PS3 on ebay for £80. It came with a controller and everything felt like and looked like it was brand new, even got the original boxes. And it's a 500GB super slim! I got it for LAN parties with all the old COD classics, may get a 3rd and 4th while they're still so cheap and available. Got a bunch of COD games too that are about £10 each, bargains. I have RDR on PS3 too I should just play it again.

The amount of homophobic shit flung at Mark Cerny in this thread during the PS4 reveal is shocking. Thought I read it a bit for laughs, like reading a bunch comments from 14 year olds.

Finally got my PS4 from Amazon today. Got the console bundle which comes with the Uncharted collection. Played about a half hour each on all three different Uncharted games. To say that I'm underwhelmed, would be an understatement. I knew the Uncharted games were old, but didn't realize most of the game would be spent looking for handholds and shit to climb. I'm kinda over this already. Am I being too harsh? Does it pick up soon?

Vato and Sir Matt would be banned nowadays. Maybe Rel too.

Uncharted games are all quite linear and combine a very old fashioned platform style, although much updated and obviously far improved from old 2d platformers, with a lot of action and gunfights and puzzles. There is also the option to play the games more stealthily or gung ho. Personally, I love them. They are good fun, can be very tricky and all have pretty good stories and some extremely fun levels that are varied yet similar, they also have some pretty amazing action sequences. You can tell the games that inspired them, Strider, Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil/Dino Crisis etc, and they are just a clever mix of all of them with the added bonus of treasure hunting thrown in.

Caf was far less pc a coulpe of years ago.

To be honest doesn't bother me in the slightest, but times have changed and people get offended easy

Is Mark Cerny gay? He appears to be very camp

Played through all 3 of them just recently and thought they all held up very well.

But I loved them 1st time round too

Some pics of the new Firewatch theme that will be available tomorrow (along with the game itself)

Is the theme free, or at least free with the game? I'm still on the default theme, but that one looks great. The game itself looks superb too, so I think I'll pick it up at some point. Not sure whether to get it before or after The Witness though.

I think the theme costs about 3 pounds, or you can get it bundled with the game for a bit extra than just the game.

I love the art style of the game - so having a dynamic theme that changes based on the time of day (from what I've heard) is perfect.

Really looking forward to getting this tomorrow.

Sounds like the PS4 version of Firewatch has some performance issues - might wait to see if there's a patch out, or get it on Mac...

Not sure whether to get it or not at all, looks gorgeous, but sounds awful that the whole game is basically walking about and chatting with some woman through a walkie talkie.

Depends what you're into

Walking sims aren't everyone's cup of tea

But I enjoy them. I loved Everybody's gone to the Rapture and just this weekend played through Vanishing of Ethan Carter which was pretty good too

Played the first two days of Firewatch last night, it's been pretty good so far, the dialogue is good lots of atmosphere with a dark sense of foreboding, they do a good job of making you feel emotionally connected to the character from the start too. Visually it looks brilliant but yeah there's some screen tearing/judder going on but I'm not really too sensitive to that so it hasn't had any sort of negative effect with me yet. If any of you liked Everybody's Gone To the Rapture this one will be right up your street.

A nice addition is also the home screen Theme is amazing, probably the best one I've had.

Have played the first day - agree with everything you said - including with regard to the theme!

I'm also playing Firewatch (on day 77) the game is good but the performance issues are shocking it's always dropping frames and even freezing for a second or two.

The theme is amazing though I love the artwork and music.

Damn, can't remember a game prettier than this.

I watched the trailer and thought it looked stunning - reviews seem good but not the longest game ( inkw the same can be said of Firewatch, but I feel as though a platformer should be longer)

Firewatch looks good but it's very short and has limited replay-ability, even despite it's low price, apparently. Around 5 hours, I've read. Think I might wait until it's got a good discount on a Steam sale, rather than forking out PSN money for it.

I've just played through the first day of it. Fun game, so far anyway. Really enjoy the dialogue.

Just finished Firewatch it's a good game. I'm sure they will release a patch in the coming weeks though the performance is terrible in places.

It does look quite nice. I never seem too bothered about these side scrolling platformers? They just seem too 1990's for me :s and a lot of them basically seem the same just with a different skin.

Saying that I'm considering giving this one a go to see how fun it is, also fancy ori and the blind forest (xbone only?) And that cuphead xbone exclusive looks interesting too

Still lost it?

You are spawn of Satan.

 After I posted it I basically thought "Well, that's most FPS' games too, and action, and rpg... wait a minute."

I think I steer clear of them more now because I was excited for Little Big Planet and that to me felt like a huge disappointment.

I think this Unravel thing I may give a go though.

2D platformers are my favourite genre and I found LBP boring as shit.

Unravel does look rather cool. Hopefully by the time I have a PS4/Xbox One there'll be a physical copy available.

Finished Firewatch, quite enjoyed my time playing it but overall some mixed feelings about the ending.

The prologue was well done and gave a good feeling of emotional connection to Henry. The atmosphere of the forest was very well realised. It's hard to point out what exactly worked so well there, maybe it's mostly the lovely art style and the music, but in the end it feels like much more than just the sum of those parts. I enjoyed having to use the map and the compass to navigate my way through the forest and the disposable camera was a nice touch too.

I hoped the dialogue choices or decisions in the game would have more of an effect on the effect on future dialogue or the outcome of the game but after reading about some other peoples experiences it seems they don't have much of an effect over the duration of the game other than Delilah getting annoyed and not talking to you for a bit. But they don't seem to have any bearing on the ending.

For me, it was lacking a stronger sense of exploration & interaction. The forest itself which had its great atmosphere going for it sometimes felt a bit too sterile, there's only two instances in the game where you encounter wildlife, at the very start and at near the end for me so sometimes it felt a bit lifeless.

As for the story and its ending... I'm not quite sure what to think about that yet. On the one hand, I liked that they can tell a story like that in a game today and that they avoided the most obvious tropes or veering into the supernatural, they do make you think something like that is gonna happen and perhaps lead you down the garden path a bit but the mystery or 'twist' if it even can be called that is fairly grounded in reality. On the other hand, the ending felt a bit anticlimactic and ends quite abruptly after they did a good job of making you feel like Henry developed a good relationship with Delilah over the course of the game and like I said your choices throughout have no bearing on the ending.

Far Cry Primal is going to be rubbish?

And I finished Firewatch liked it. A bit slow and not hard enough to go down as a great game but a fine story and a great dialog with amazing feel and visuals..
