Gaming PlayStation 4 (Console)

You've also got the PS1 and PSP back catologue... lots to play. I play it as much as my PS3 and a bit more than my PS4. Remote play is the cherry on top...

Is nobody interested in 'The Crew'? I've been watching the PC beta on Twitch and it looks like a load of fun. The graphics aren't exactly great but the map size is insane and I like the MMO features, most people seem to be really enjoying the beta.

I'm getting Drive Club but I'll also wait and see the reviews for this before picking it up.

I think parts of it look good other parts not so good. There are just so many racers coming out it's way down on the list for me. The size of the map is amazing though.

Not really been a fan of racers since Gran Turismo 2 15 years ago.

What on earth in an open world racer anyway?

Looking at the crew on twitch atm, it looks the type of racer which would piss me off with stupid shortcuts and the like.

I was excited at first but after watching gameplay videos I might skip it, especially with DriveClub and Project Cars out around the same time.

Had a look at a couple project CARS videos today and that is looking less impressive now when compared with driveclub.

It's a 60fps simulation racer built off a kickstarter. Driveclub could have cost in the region of 30m quid plus to develop.

It looks alright, and is the only sim racer available at the minute. GT7 isn't appearing any time soon.

I've been an Xbox 360 guy for the last few years, so I don't know how PSN works.

Can I download classic PS and PS2 games for PS4? Specifically the old Crash Bandicoot games?

Nope, not on PS4. Depending on your location you might be able to stream some PS classics in the future.

Vita is the machine you want for playing classic PS titles. It's basically all I've used mine for.

Not yet, for, well, reasons....

It's the same with MP3 and DLNA. where people can't do it, yet it's obviously in the firmware as PS4 supports Torne/Nasne in Japan.

Why it won't just do this shit without the Nasne yet is for, well, reasons.......

From what I played of the beta, The Crew is pretty shite in all aspects. Poor driving, boringly cliche story that's been shoved in for the sake of it.

That's a shame then, it looks really good from the Twitch gameplay I was watching. I'll keep my eye on it anyway, I like the idea of a open world MMO type of racer, especially one with real locations.

I was just hoping it was an open world racer, but despite having a large world, I just wanted them to let me free to drive around and do races. Instead they started off with a plot that genuinely made me cringe (not going to be specific because some people might not want spoilers) and the driving itself didn't feel good enough to be in a game that should be around 95% about driving cars.

It might well be better on release and probably opens up as you go through it, but I just had no desire to boot it up a second time. Drive Club, on the other hand, looks like something that will interest me when I eventually get a PS4.

I was more talking about how a few months ago Project CARS looked much better than driveclub, it keeps changing all the time. Also, a driving sim like CARS needs an actual wheel, and that fanatec thing the other day is £400? Bit expensive tbh.

There is the Thrustmaster FFW. Many people play GT with a pad as well.

I think that what we saw before was Project cars running on a high-end PC. I still don't think that it looked as good as Driveclub even back then. It's also highly deceptive. A sim racer will deal with a lot of real race circuits where there generally isn't a great deal of detail in terms of the environment, so they obviously look far less awe-inspiring in real life. There are exceptions of course, but Brands Hatch isn't weaving in and out of beautiful landscapes. People that want a sim racer will go there, those that don't have Driveclub. Best of both worlds.

I've not been that impressed with Project Cars in terms of physics, although I haven't played the last couple of builds.

Ah right, I'd heard this new wheel was the only one due to some chip or something. I am liking this driveclub a lot more at the moment though, seen some beta footage of CARS and it looks a bit poor graphics wise which would put me off a bit. I see what you're saying, I think I'm more a driveclub racer, but I'll pick up CARS too I think.

The trouble is that Slightly Mad have never tried to develop a simulation before have they?

Not really and to be honest this is a borderline sim, I really think its aimed more at the console crowd to the detriment of the PC version. It still feels miles behind the likes of a good rFactor mod, GSC or new stuff like Assetto Corsa but its understandable, if they go full sim people on consoles will not buy it.

Can't they just do what GT does and add a load of assists?

I'd imagine they could I just don't think they are quite there yet. I'll be amazed if this feels better than GT with a wheel though, GT6 was excellent for a console racer.

Not great news considering the type of game.

Ah to be honest I am bit of a sim racing snob so it takes a lot to please me, most people will like it and probably even love it. It's still going to look fantastic and offer lots of variety, something it will smash Driveclub on.

This shit is more complicated than you know. It all goes back to why the original PS3 controller had no rumble in it. Logitec no longer make the wheels, bla bla bla.

This is the only affordable option as it stands, 300 quid. There is another much cheaper wheel, but there is no force feedback.

It doesn't look that great, but the size of the map intrigues me. Apparently the standard time to drive from coast to coast of the virtual USA takes 3 real time hours!

Do you know how many cities/towns the map includes? And how detailed they are?

I've seen a couple of the cities (Vegas and San Fransisco) and they looked good. I like how the traveling in between isn't just dead space either, you come across towns and fairgrounds and other things that bring the world alive. It's also a MMO, you see other players while driving around.

I know very little about the game, I came across it by chance and just thought it looks fun, the size of the map and things to explore are really interesting imo.

It's not an MMO, I wish you'd all stop using this term. Destiny is not an MMO either. Unless you can get 1000 cars in the same place, it's not an MMO. The first M means "Massive".

Yeah true MMO is a term used too much these days. I don't know how many players this game can hold on a single server but I'd presume it's quite a few considering the map size.

I never saw more than say 8 people fairly close in the beta. And I only saw that one time.

Speculation that Logitech, Fanatec, Etc may wait till the patents expire late 2015 before releasing drivers and/or new model wheels... I hope so, as I won't be buying any serious driving games otherwise.
