Gaming PlayStation 4 (Console)

Yankees obviously EQ, everyone knows there are only 2 teams in Baseball.

Who were you playing as?

White Sox, I've liked them since my lovely Chicago days because back then they were the only team you could get tickets to see there.

It actually feels like I'm in the US again. Playing baseball and basketball on a console, eating breakfast at Subway, bagels for lunch and steaks/burgers for dinner, working for an American corporation and driving an SUV. Good old days ( I'm 25)

Ahhhh, nice one! They used to be my "second team". At the moment though they're the only team I keep an eye on in the MLB.

A year after I'd adopted them as my MLB team they won the title for the first time in about 90 years too!

Can you elaborate? It had my interest a month ago. Just the other day I watched a twitch stream for a bit and was not even slightly interested in what I saw. Why don't you like it?

I was very interested in it and was hoping it was going to be good, was dying for an rpg on ps4. I like the concept and the stories not awful, and the struggle between Vulcan and the demon is interesting but that's it. The dialogue is hilariously bad, the mouth synching is all over the place and barely ever matches the words spoken. The graphics, scenery and areas are woefully lacking with very little detail.

The combat animations are clunky, and is unfairly difficult. I consider myself to be a relatively good gamer but I'm struggling at times on the easiest difficulty. Companions die in 2 seconds and are almost impossible to use tactically and you often find yourself surrounded by 3 enemies who kill you in 3-4 hits. Magic is too slow to cast, if you attack you get hit, if you kite the enemies end up reseting half the time. You just end up pounding circle button to dodge and get a hit in every 10-20 seconds which leads to a war of attrition where you whittle down their health for about 5 minutes. Just for an ordinary mob, on easy difficulty. Maybe I've done my skill trees badly but again the skill tress are far too simple for my liking.

It makes me sad to think I spent £50 on this.

Saying all that I am enjoying the average storyline and probably would have been happy to spend £30 or so as I don't really have anything else to play at the moment.

Not even superior graphics? FIFA looks significantly better even if it's still underwhelming compared to the other two gems of sports games I have been playing.

I stayed up until 1am yesterday playing bitch of a game against Dodgers. Took me 17 innings to finish and it ended 2-1 to them. I was 1-0 up in 12th with two outs for Dodgers and they hit a freaking homerun to make it 1-1. Crazy game defensively.

To be honest no, not significally better anyway. Its a good game, but I was disappointed with it on the whole.

Cheers mate, if it's any consolation you've saved me wasting my money. A real shame though, I was also really looking forward to a solid action rpg on ps4.

According to http://www.playstation.com/en-us/games/watch-dogs-ps4 Watchdogs is running at 1080p - 60 fps on PS4! pretty sweet if true, I'm sure they said earlier it would be 30 fps?

It's things like this that will end up blowing the XB away, just wait until Q4 when all the years biggest games get released and are running at twice the performance, there will be nowhere for MS to hide.

Nice, that's a brilliant price. I think Weaste could end up being right, maybe they will go all out for domination and cut the price further when the inevitable Xbox One drop happens.

Maybe not, usually they drop the price of their consoles around now so it wouldn't be strange. But it's not like they need to..

So I just got PS4. Can any one give me names of a couple of games to buy ?

Infamous Second Son is a very decent game, fun to play and probably the best looking PS4 title atm, if you like to do side missions and 100% games and do alternative playthroughs then you'll get a good 20± hours out of it, and the photo mode on it is awesome too if that kind of stuff floats yer boat. If you've liked Killzone games in the past then I'd recommend that too, other than that there's the usual big titles like Assassin's Creed black flag and Battlefield which are both good.

There's also Watchdogs coming out at the end of the month which is looking like it'll be a great game. I'd highly recommend Resogun too, it's like a modern take on the classic side scrolling shooter like R-Type. I got if free on ps± so not sure how much it costs to buy now but it's quite addictive and I still find myself playing it now to kill and hour or two (and usually end up playing it for ages) but if it's around the 10 quid mark then I'd say go for it.

Sox? Cubs man here. Also out of my Chicago experience and the first live baseball game I saw at Wrigley.

Yep, Sox. I couldn't get tickets to Cubs when I went there my first time so I opted for Sox. Between 2001 and 2008 I was in the US basically every single year for 2-4 months so I did spend a fair amount of time there, lovely city Chicago.

Not really the best team to play in this game as they don't have a very good squad these days but I'll stick with them due to nostalgy. I find it very difficult to hit the ball, I play 5 innings games and usually don't get more than 3-4 proper hits. I tried analog and zone, zone seems better but still plenty difficult (it doesn't help that my players aren't exactly great hitters).

What difficulty do you have the hitting on? The lower it is the more the AI will just pound the zone in strikes, meaning its all about timing rather than patience which isn't actually a good thing. I'd start on atleast veteran and learn some patience at the plate, once you do that you will begin to recognise the mistake pitches and punish them.

Zone hitting is best in my opinion.

I'm using Beginner and only Zone now, it's better. I have recruited Cruz who's better than what I have and will try to recruit better hitters. Can you tell me which stats I should be looking for - power, contact, what do they even mean?

Some of the stats don't mean anything unless you are simming games I think.

Contact is ability to get bat on ball, Power is the ability to hit home runs, both of these values have left and right options because some players hit right handed pitching better than left. In baseball most players tend to hit their opposite better, so righties hit lefties better and vice versa, very few players are great against both types so you should use your lineups to reflect that. Look out for switch hitters because they hit from the opposite sides no matter who pitches and that makes it a bit easier to hit.

Speed is obviously running on the bases and works with BR ability and aggressiveness (these help with stealing bases). I always like to have a couple of speed guys at the top of my lineup if possible, if they have high on base percentages then even better.

Plate vision and discipline are seeing the ball and being patient to not swing at strikes, I'm not sure how much these effect it when the user is batting, patience comes from yourself really.

Durability is fatigue recovery and injuries, higher the better. If your players are tired they will hit less, you will notice that if you play a franchise. Blocking is catcher relevant only, fielding and arm strengths/accurracy are only relevant when you aren't hitting.

So really if you are struggling for hits concentrate more on the high contact guys, with speed if possible. Once you start hitting the power will come naturally with timing. Personally I don't like the default hitting camera, you can see the ball much better with one of the offset ones, I think the one I'm using is catcher offset and you notice the breaking ball pitches out of his hand better.

Doesn't the PS4 update your games for you or is that coming later?
