All self-respecting muppets love to talk about which players they would like United to sign this summer but....

Which player or players that have either been linked to United or who we might conceivably sign do you really hope we don't sign this summer - and why?

Off the top of my head

Ronaldo
Cavani
Higuain
Gaitan
Hummels
Clyne
Gundogan
Bale

Bale- would be too expensive
Schneiderlin - not enough quality
Kane - not enough quality
Dani Alves - too old
Ron Vlaar - shite
Dante - too shite

Cavani (we should sign a young and explosive striker)

Bale (too expensive and misfit for LvG's system)

Ronaldo (too expensive, LvG not the right manager to manage him, too self centred nowadays, we won't create enough chances to keep him happy)

Milner (we already have Young and Fellaini among others who scream "average", don't need to add to that departnent)

Hummels (I was all for him once but I am less and less convinced with each passing game)

Edit: Forgot Clyne: overrated and average

Dani Alves - would prefer someone younger
Dante - error prone and no better than what we already have
Ings - never going to be world class (looks like Liverpool might be taking care of that one)
Sterling - bad hairstyles and overrated / overpriced.
Cavani / Higuain - both good players but I would prefer someone younger that we can develop

Ronaldo is one of the best players of all time. If he was available it would be a terrible decision not to pursue it.
The price would be ludicrous for a player who is 30.
Agree on Clyne. Would be another Zaha.

Cavani, Clyne, Hummels, Higuain, Benteke, Gaitan, Garay and Ronaldo.

Of course but he would guarantee league titles. When you see what thirty million gets these days I'd be more than happy to see us spend eighty on Ronaldo considering what he would help us win.
Even with Ronaldo I still think we'd need to buy a top CM, CB, RB and possibly a striker to compete, certainly in the UCL.

After last summer, I wonder how many massive splurges we can have before FFP becomes an issue. I know we have more headroom than most, but at some point it might.

If we signed Ronaldo we wouldn't need a striker though. Right-backs are fairly cheap (normally) so we'd just need to spend on a centre-back and a midfielder.

It would be well worth it (imo).

What about if we signed Robaldo?

Ronaldo....

just think it would be an absolute joke for us to shell out another 60 million to Real this time for a 31 year old and for them to pinch our best player for 20!

its not my money but I think the club needs to be sensible with our buying this summer - Depay is a good start

lets buy 4/5 more top young players and bring in an experienced spine - think Bastian Sweinsteiger would be an excellent cheap addition

Ings - Not enough quality and guile for the CL
Bale - too expensive
Sterling - Overrated, and very expensive

Too expensive.
:lol:Would be great to see him back, don't get me wrong, but not sure I can see it happening. Woodward would cream himself at the prospect though.
We probably need a keeper too remember.

Bruno Martins Indi
Clyne
Vlaar
Miranda
Clasie
Sneijder
Kane
William Carvalho
De Jong
Cabaye
Guarin
Garay
Cavani
De Vrij
Gundogan
Ings
Dante
Gaitan
Van der Wiel
Cillessen
Icardi
Keylor Navas
Krul
Handanovic
Higuain
Benteke

Signing Dani Alves would annoy me.

I think he would struggle badly in England and at 32 it's hardly going to be worth waiting for him to adapt. At best he would be a short term stop gap and that's what we already have in Valencia. I want someone who can make the position his own for a number of years.

It's a funny mix so far.
Ings/Milner type players would be sickeningly underwhelming and wouldn't strengthen either position.
Clyne would feel like a poor man's Shaw, and at least Shaw has time to grow into an epic fullback. Clyne would feel barely an upgrade over anyone.

Bale or Ronaldo now would obviously improve things massively, but have zero chance. Ronaldo as he's such a legendary figure there now, and is 11 goals of immortality.
Bale has a lot to prove, and Benitez has gone on record saying he'll be a key player.

Am hoping we have some impressive stuff lined up, and no press are on it.
