PL Gameweek 1 | 16/08/24 - 19/08/24

Also, Harnacho is by far their best forward, should be the first name on the team sheet every week. The player to build this team around(along with Bruno)

Good goal. A fair result on balance but midfield and Rashford would still worry me.

I take it back

Maybe it was those massive teeth that threw off his balance?

The thing the PL got going for itself is atmosphere and pace of play means even ugly, sloppy games full of unconscionable mistakes go by quickly, so it's decent entertainment even at its worst(and this was definitely it. You can tell this is still basically pre-season)

Weird game for a 1-0. United should have scored 3-4 and Fulham should have at least 1.

United are going to have to tighten up, if you beat the press when they do actually press you are straight in. If they don't press you're in anyway.
Quite good going the other way bar finishing. I can see them turning over at least one of City, Liverpool or Arsenal away from with how they play.

A wobbly start in both boxes but good in between. A wins a win though.

Compared to the other top teams Man. United just never look like scoring that many goals.

Tonight they had a slow start, completely dominated for a 20 minute spell either side of half time but can't remember Leno making that many saves at all in last half hour.

Will be more solid this season at the back. However all the top 4-5 teams last season scored a minimum of 74 goals so that's the bar. Newcastle in 7th somehow scored 85 goals.

Sometimes you get the kind of games where you can't really tell if a team was really good or the opponent was really crap

This wasn't it. United were mediocre, Fulham were just beyond terrible

Quite nice to look forward to the weekend's games with the points in the bag.

I reckon Liverpool are going to be this season's Spurs if they're going with Gravenberch sitting and playing as gung-ho as they did in our friendly. Could be 4-3s either way in a good few of their games.

I know they have more to come in but that's still a very Championship team from Ipswich. Think they'll do a Luton this year. Be valiant but not have enough.

This Liverpool team/squad is very unconvincing IMO. It's baffling they haven't signed anyone yet.

Considering they’ve done absolutely no business so far, Liverpool still have a fairly decent squad with a lot of firepower.

Firm believer that clubs should never stand still and often it results in club’s doing worse than anticipated if there’s absolutely no activity, but I don’t envisage that in Liverpool’s case.

Look like a comfortable 3rd place finish.

Hard to see Ipswich getting anything today. Surprised an experienced prem player like Ben Johnson isn't starting as they signed him fairly early in the summer, guess McKenna wants to give their promotion players a chance but he can't be too loyal as you don't want to get to November without a win.

Slot is picking the better technician in every contested position, that’s the theme of his first team selection to me. Jota over Darwin, Grsvenberch over Jones, Quansah over Konate, Joe Gomez not on the bench.

They have a harsh introduction with Liverpool and City early on

Apparently Gomez wasn't included as he's actively looking for a new club.

haven't seen Ipswich game for about 25 years. I remember Marcus Stewart was scoring every week the last time they were in EPL.

Kinda wish the commentary team would've shut up there so we could just listen to the Ipswich announcer. I'd follow him into battle.

New season, same old Liverpool getting away with tactical fouling.
