Philippe Coutinho Barcelona Player

Sure, but it's still possible to compete with them. Like I said, they can only field 11 players at the time.
Some players like Messi for example make it seem like 12 players.

That's my fear. The oil clubs will be the ones that can sign such players in future and it makes our task even harder . Imagine City signing the next Messi. Imagine the meltdowns on here.

Liverpool have already spent the Coutinho money...VVD and Keita. They'll get maybe one more attacker for a decent price.

Imagine if Gomes turns out to be the next Messi! I'm not worried yet.

Smaller clubs are guilty of it as well, you can justify a Pogba at £90m when you figure in the talent, the marketing and the package.

You can't justify a Gylfi to Everton for £50m though.
My view is United would have been after Pogba even if he wasnt an ex academy player. Most likely we wouldnt have got him because there wouldnt have been the same pull but we would have been in the market for him. Plus what did he cost from Le Havre? 200k?

Yes.

One chairman even admitted that he was charging high prices simply because that is what the market dictated nowadays. I think it might have been the Lyon chairman .

I really think under a normal market we would have been able to sign someone like kane. Not anymore.

Thank God they lost their best player, especially midseaon. I don't really care how much money they made in the process.

Exactly. They took one step forward by buying VVD and now two steps back by selling one of the best attackers in the league. As good as salah and mane are , Coutinho can change the game on his own by scoring some insane goals. Even if they go on to buy someone now say lemar this Jan, it is still a blow to lose Coutinho.

I'm delighted we got the bulk of our squad done early. Mental to consider for all we've spent at City we haven't a single player that cost even half a Coutinho.

Something like that.

Top talents in their position will always command huge fees.

That's top 4 gone for them unless they bring in a replacement now.

Coutinho could be the first player since 1990 to play for Liverpool and win the league in the same season.

It definitely wasn't that cheap. I just think it's not one of the causes of the problem of the market at the moment.

Anyway, we'll have to cope with the current market starting from next summer. Getting top class players will be a real pain.
Consider the World cup effect and that stupid rule of closing the English window before the rest of Europe and I can see prices spiralling upwards again.

If we offered 150 for Kane, he'd be here in a hurry. We all know Levy is about the bills.

Again, 50 mil for a 19 year old unknown was a gigantic fee . See it in the context of the time. Before Pogba and Neymar. Prices like that affect other prices.

Neymar cost Barca much more than that. Way more. Lots of shoddy money there.

My point isn't to say we are the most guilty. But we are big time players too. Non oil clubs like Barca and Madrid too.

Well still no, it was £36m as a base fee. Which isn't that huge. City paid £44m for Sterling up front.

Anyhow my point is you said we're as guilty as anyone, which isn't true at all. Barca, Madrid and us have spent a lot in the past, but all transfers were £90m or under. It's PSG, and PSG alone, that's responsible for the hyperinflation we're seeing.

Is he feck, get a grip of yourself.
A grip? I'm pretty cool. I'm neither a Barca, Liverpool nor PSG fan, so I honestly don't care.
PSG paid 150m for Mbappe, but he's hardly better than Coutinho nor as proven as him. Relative to that Mbappe fee, this is about the right price for Coutinho.

“It is with great reluctance that we – as a team and club – prepare to say farewell to a good friend, a wonderful person and a fantastic player in Philippe Coutinho.

“It is no secret that Philippe has wanted this move to happen since July, when Barcelona first made their interest known.

“Philippe was insistent with me, the owners and even his teammates this was a move he was desperate to make happen.

“Despite that, we managed to keep the player here beyond the summer window, hoping that we would be able to persuade him to stay and be part of what we are looking to do.

“I can tell the Liverpool supporters that we, as a club, have done everything within our means to convince Philippe that remaining part of LFC was as attractive as moving to Spain, but he is 100 per cent certain his future – and that of his family – belongs at Barcelona. It is his dream and I am now convinced there is nothing left at our disposal to change his mind.

“Philippe has made a fantastic contribution to this club over his five years of service and as disappointed as we are he doesn’t want to extend that, the relationship we have for him means with a heavy heart we wish him well.

“The player remained dedicated and committed to helping us win matches, producing good performances and training hard each day at Melwood after the summer window had closed, despite failing to convince us to allow him to leave during that period and that level of professionalism reflects positively on him.

“Of course, it is totally understandable that supporters will be disappointed; this is always the case when you have to say goodbye to someone special. But, as hard as it is sometimes to accept, it is part of life and part of football – individuals have their own dreams and their own goals and objectives in life.

“Players will come and players will go, that is football, but as a club we are big enough and strong enough to continue with our aggressive progression on the pitch, even when we lose an important player. We have never been in a better position in recent times, as a club, to react in the right way. We will use our size and strength to absorb moments like this and still move forward.

“I have been here long enough now to know in the history of Liverpool, key players have left before – but the club always goes on. You cannot transfer the heart and soul of Liverpool Football Club, although I am sure there are many clubs who would like to buy it.

“I have so much belief in the talent we have here already and even more faith, together with our owners, that we will make continued investment into the playing squad, which will allow more growth and more improvement.

“So as we bid farewell to Philippe, we continue on our path of progress and development as we work towards our common goal of bringing trophies back to Anfield.”

we begged him to stay but the ungrateful little shit couldn't get away quick enough

Sterling was Liverpool's 2nd/3rd best player moving to another English rival. Hence the premium.

Martial was fairly unknown hence the difference.

It's not just PSG. Real have been as guilty as anyone. 86mil for Gareth Bale then was just criminal. 70 mil for James was crazy especially based on a 6 week tournament .

You handkerchief waving cnuts better give us Kovacic for about £50m to finance your Hazard splurge.
On one side he has been a couple of years accepting a secondary role and seeing that Modric is getting older and Kroos playing under his usual level he could stay to be finally protagonist, but on the other hand Zidane has barely used him and when he did It was to run behind Messi, therefore he could ask for an exit and Zidane could accept it(although in the past Madrid rejected similar offers).
Is there some rumor or its only your personal preference?
The handkerchief cnuts love United,of course we want to talk.Let's invite Rashford to the talks too

No chance. Maybe if we moved for him at the start of last summer for that sort of money. Maybe.

See below.

Levy would want £200M+ from an English club and slightly less (20M or so) from a foreign club.

Yes, easily. Maybe a bit more.

With the going rate now north of £150m for an established top class player, I really do not see us catching the pack anytime soon. It is beyond our reach.

Fair play to Barca. Look at their reaction to losing Neymar vs our's when we lost Ronaldo.

Quite sad really.

The transfer market is now blown to pieces, if you want a genuine world class player now you've got pay 100 million plus.

Total madness...

Plus Liverpool now have 100 million plus to reinvest in their squad, that's not great news as they seem pretty good at snapping up talent of late. Coutinho, Suarez, Mane & Salah!! Imagine the money they'd make if they sold Salah and Mane!

Every year, people on here complain that the transfer market has gone mad and everyone is a rip-off.

Yet every year it has inflated - much like football revenues.

I am unsure if it is going to continue appreciate at the rate it has, but I am damn certain it's not going to go backwards.

Get with the times.
