He's been here 10 years and I'm trying to remember his good moments. I think there was a great performance in midfield against Bolton in his first season but everything after that is just memes (his face, him on corners) injuries and shit performances (giving away a penalty in the FA Cup final comes to mind).

All 6 of his goals here. Goals 1, 3 and 4 are pretty decent actually.

He was pretty good in that first season overall. Then he had a period in 17/18 where he got picked for England again, and he was playing quite well. Southgate said he was the best English centre back during that period, and he probably wasn't wrong.

But yeah, it's mostly been injuries, or him doing something daft.
 
We were happy enough with Jones as a squad player when fit. He was also an England regular. I get the impatience with his long-term injury but imagining it's all his fault or that somehow he's not trying to overcome his injury, content to draw a salary, is based on a limited outside view, and a pretty negative one at that. Word from the club is he's recovering and if he does get back to full fitness, I think he might still do a job for us. All the piss-taking about his gurning (spell check hates that!) and madcap tackling used to be good natured but it's stepped over the line to public ridicule and mean-spirited commentary because some people want to believe the worst of others. I prefer to believe he's had a tough road and the medical staff see a way forward. Good luck to him regardless.
 
Transfermarkt's Injury History for Jones has some numbers. His last listed injury kept him out for 416 days.

I crunched their numbers and came up with the following:

9

Total Days out injured:
1210

I admit my math may be off, but these figures say he's been out injured for over 3 years total.

Correct. He won't stay fit though as you said, big if.

The idea that he was this rubbish footballer is weird and unfair really. Jones has always been a solid PL defender, his body is just beyond broken.

He's not been injured the whole time hes been here has he... He's been happy to sit on the sidelines for years when it's been clear his career at this club is over.

And that's not discussing the reports he's been reluctant to get back after injuries in the past.
 
He has no future and he does not care, he can never play for England again or move to any decent club, why should he look to move? He's getting ridiculous wages at United and securing his future without moving a foot. It's like getting employment insurance for next 2,3 years at least 3 times more than what you would get in pay anywhere.

Him and Holger Badstuber must have been twins separated at birth, when you look at how their careers panned out

Hear hear! Jones always was willing to literally throw his body in front of danger to snuff it out. It's a shame he keeps picking up long term injuries because when fit he really is a class defender.

While admirable, that trait certainly contributed to his injury record over the years.
 
Can’t believe I’m getting grief for what I said re: Rio’s comments on Jones…I don’t apologise for it. Fair enough it a hard to turn down a contract at united but he’s literally doing nothing at this club, always injured and is better off out of it. Give one of the youth a chance to make a name for themselves. Whoever gave him a contract extension needs there head examined

Nowhere near as bad as some make out.

You wonder how he'll get in though, with Bailly and Lindelof ahead of him as backups.

Will take Varane's and Maguire's place this season...I can feel it.
 
He is at the best club/franchise (whatever we are these days), in the world for him as any other club would have cut him adrift 3 year ago at least. Very very lucky man for the support he gets at Utd.

Totally agree, he's basically the David May of this squad now
Wage talk is irrelevant, the average PL wage must be £60k or so now

Had to check when his contract lasts to. Still best part of 2 years. Amazing really.

I hope for all the support and all that, which is great, that they don't even dare to renew it again.

He’s obviously become a figure of fun but no one can ever say this lad didn’t leave it all on the pitch when he played. It’s been so frustrating for fans that he’s been on the payroll and barely played for three years, but can you imagine how he feels? He’s one of those that you know wants to play. I never got the impression with him that he was just happy to collect the pay check.

His top level career is probably over at the highest level, but he still has a chance to be a decent mid table player. I just don’t think anyone can sit out that much time and come back to the highest level. But I hope he proves me wrong.

I am glad the club did the right thing and stuck by him. He has been desperately unlucky with injuries and the kind of integrity the club has shown, I think it stands us in good stead. I am proud to support a club that treats players and staff like people, not cattle - even if ruthlessness might have freed up more funds.
 
I support Phil Jones and these comments of his. There's a lot of abuse going on in football. It's only a game at the end of the day, I think it's pathetic to resort to bullying because of it - bullying is always pathetic of course. No need to abuse people who's done no harm towards you. It's not his fault he's been injured. Yes he earns a lot of money, but I could think of plenty of other players who deservs criticism before he does.

I don't think Rio meant any abuse or harm by his comments though, nor do I think Jones implied that he did. All good.
 
Remember the days when we used to have 'Rojones'.
I think since Ole's arrival the attention to detail with regards fitness has improved and Phil could make some come back.
