Good thing for him the Astana guys were crap. Guy is a disaster waiting to happen every time he plays.

Axel must be watching thinking, damn life is good for this guy.

To be fair I thought he improved a lot in the second half but jeez, what was he doing at times in that first half?!!! Even the presenter on BT was joking at him.

I mean, these are the games he should be playing. First game of the season right? So yeah, not surprised it started slow but then got better into the second half.

There is a footballer inside Jones. His problem is that he is bound to make a horrible mistake.

His legs struggle to keep up with his body, I don't know if it's a top heavy thing or just a lack of balance whilst moving at a pace.

I actually think he's partly the reason why some non English utd fans have a grudge on us signing English players, they've been scarred

There was a moment in the second half when he received the ball under little pressure and proceeded to dribble sideways hurriedly as if under pressure before passing it back to the keeper and gesturing for everyone else to “calm down”. The least composed player out there. I think his confidence is shot as a United player

He made one mistake in the first half, but showed determination to recover and undo the damage himself (something some of our more lauded players may care to note). In the second half, he was often the man in the right place to sort out a potentially dangerous situation. Given he's hardly played, I thought his performance was decent.

Had a brainfart early on but played with the attitude I want from a senior player in a game like this.

Has a bit of skill too. He and Rojo should be enough cover for our regular CBs.

Played like a pub player tonight. Letting the guy easily turn him as the last defender on the counter was a joke. Tuanzebe was much more composed which sums him up considering he's supposed to be the one setting the example to him. Hope he stays far away from the team.

Next summer we might be in the market for another center half.

He looks top heavy alright. Could stand to lose a few pounds.

In a game where there was next to nothing to defend he still made himself look fecking shit in defence.

But yeah, protecting assets and all that, right guys?

This. This 100 times. I couldn’t be the only person that chuckled condescendingly when I watched that

He's like the anti - Maguire.

Where as Maguire brings a sense of solidity and calmness to the team, Jones is a trainwreck who acts like they haven't slept for 5 days straight and has just downed a jug of coffee.

He really should have been the first out of the door.

He did better in the second half but some hilariously bad play in the first. Add his erratic nature to his poor injury record and I don't think I can name a less reliable international defender.

Watching Jones performance last night you realize he really hasn't developed as a footballer since coming to United. He's still charging out into midfield to make slide tackles, getting rinsed and leaving a gaping hole in defence behind him. And he still more often than not boots the ball out every time he's under any sort of pressure. Few occasions last night where if he'd took an extra second he could have controlled the ball and passed it to a teammate potentially setting up an attack. But instead he just booted it out for a throw.

He managed to look poor last night against a team from Kazakhstan which is saying something. Once Bailly is fit and if Rojo stays fit i could easily see Jones being 6th choice. Its just a pity we couldn't find anyone interested in taking him over the summer.

There are times when his all-action displays catch the eye and he beasts the opposition in a way that pleases fans, particularly those at the ground. But you're right to say his football is still so under-developed. Charging around like a schoolboy is not a virtue in a professional in his mid-twenties, let alone one who has been looking to star for United and England, which is why the likes of Maguire are in his place and he can't get a look in for club and country. And that's to say nothing of his injury record.

There is a footballer inside every guy then.

Typical Jones performance, not good enough. Nice guy, good intentions, poor player.

We're going to need him to be a mainstay in our EL games this season (group at least) if we want a rested 11 for the big games, but I don't know how long Ole will trust him for. Same goes for a few others.

Really enjoyed his performance last night. His comic uselessness is so entertaining. His overlap down the right early second half was just priceless.

Yeah definitely i enjoy seeing a defender come out and clean someone out as much as anyone but theres a time and a place for it. Jones more often than not doesn't win the ball on at least one occasion every game he does it.

You can see why he tends to score own goals because of that.

He just takes no care with the ball, if a cross comes in he just swings a leg at it and the ball balloons off anywhere.

9 seasons here :lol::(

Just a typical Jones performance. Terrible performance then injured.

But hey we gave him a 4+1 contract this year.
