PFA Premier League team of the year

These teams can be dodgy enough but Son’s omission is one of the worst in a long time.

Trent had one of the best right back PL seasons ever.

Such a glorious season leading his team to their second worst season in the past 30 years.

I'm not sure if you understand how these individual awards work. They're not limited to players from teams who had great seasons.

Kane was crap for 6 months. No way he should be in instead of Ronaldo. However Son should 100% be in there and I reckon Mane was better than Ronaldo overall.

Yes people seem to forget that Kane spent half a season sulking and way off form.

It’s always the way with these things. There’s always a ridiculous amount of recency bias. Saw the same thing in the POTS debate. Salah was the best player in the league for 7 months of the season before a drop at the end. He was still easily the best player over the season though.

Son has to be in there and the player i'd take out is Ronaldo unfortunately. Son scored more goals and the team finished 2 places higher. No brainer.

Alisson
James VVD Rudiger Cancelo
Silva Rodri KdB
Salah Son Bowen

It just goes to show the players aren't very bright.
Preach, baby. Also shows how you need an overlord, a dictator type (manager) to objectively pick a meritocratically worthy 11. Bet they are picking their mates, or "people they like". They have their reasons, their bitch motivations. Son not making this team is a physical crime. No one from Utd should have been there based on the principle of how Nixon-like we've been this season. Just weirdly all round.

Asian players never seem to get their due in the PL, by players, media or managers.

Should be dominated by City players if it's off mainly about league form.

This doesn’t make much sense, Son never played as a striker. There’s no need to fit these players in! Imagine 6 CBS had the greatest season of their lives, you wouldn’t be playing VVD on the wing.

Then put Salah up top. I don't really mind.

For me, those 3 were the best front 3 players in the league this year.

Also, Son played centrally as many times as he played off the left this year.

I think the PFA struggle to get most of the players to vote for this, and when they do it'll be a quickly scribbled 5-minute job of whoever's in form at the time of the vote.

I mean, realistically, if you're playing for Burnley, Palace, Brighton, or well, most of the teams in the league, why would you give a monkey's feck whether Mane or Son ends up getting in this thing?

The thing I never understand, is why do they need to vote on it in March?

It's 2022 - they can send the players a voting link by whatsapp after the last game of the season and they can vote on their phone while flying to Barbados or wherever.

True, but I think the media bonanza surrounding Liverpool doesn’t help. It probably influences a few players.
Everyone told me players were infallible when I suggested the same as the reason Ronaldo was even nominated.

Let’s be honest most players knowledge and insight of games they aren’t in comes from Match of the Day.

What's that based on? Surely you know that as part of preparing for each game, players are shown videos and analysis of the opponent players from several matches.

Eh, it's really not that bad bar the travesty of excluding Son, there's been worse pfa teams.

Take out Rudiger for Matip, Thiago for Rodri, and put Mane central and take out Ronaldo for Son, and it's fixed.

Mental. Rudiger should be first choice CB in that, then it's a coin toss between Van Djik and Matip

But he scored the majority of goals, and had his best performances, out wide. Even Salah in the middle doesn’t make sense.
It’s disrespectful to the position, the fact that Ronaldo is in shows it’s a tough position to play in modern football and to simply put a wide man in there because they played well doesn’t really work.
Say you have 3 outstanding attacking midfielders last season, do you play KDB as DM?
If it’s just a list of the best players then fair enough but there has to be some nod to the formation and each position if placed in a team like this.

Conte came in at the start of November and since then Son had predominantly played centrally, and the vast majority of his goals have come from playing in that position.

Who says he had his best performances out wide? Or that he scored more goals from out wide? I think he was at his best this season while covering for Kane for the half the year he didn't bothering his arse showing up.

According to the stats, he played 15 times as a winger, scoring 9 goals and 4 assists. Then he played 20 times as a centre forward, second striker or attacking midfielder, scoring 14 goals and 5 assists.

I gotta disagree. I think it’s more Kane dropping deep and Son playing off him from wide rather than Son playing centrally

But that’s exactly what they did in midfield! There’s no Rodri or Fabinho. Thiago was useless as lone DM with no help - look at last season. They put him with Bernardo and KDB. Thiago isn’t a DM he’s a CM with a protector. So they’ve done it in midfield, why can’t they do it in the forwards.

It’s wrong both ways! It’s like me playing fifa back in the day and playing Henry at LB just to play him ( sadly I did do that)

Yeah what the feck do these people who play the game professionally know about their peers, they should really have a look at some of the insightful threads on the Caf where all the football wisdom is centered.

No it isn’t. If you can’t see the difference between putting a LW who occasionally did play CF, or moving a CM into a slightly deeper position, and moving fecking Henry to LB you are being deliberately obtuse.

Surely you know that analysis is incredibly specialised to A) the player they’re likely to be up against and B) the specific role that they’re wanted to use in that game

You’re also assuming that most players actually watch this analysis, which going off what most recent ex pros say is often not the case.

Ha! Good one. The players one always throws up some weirdness. Do they still vote for this thing half way through the season?

You ok?! My example is just the next logical step, don’t take it personally!

It's true about Kane dropping deep, but Conte's system utlising WBs means Son is often occupying the central areas and the player the furthest forward. He does often go from outside to in, but this is true of many strikers. The problem with this awards system is that by adhering to a 433, many positions don't feature so adjustments need to be made
