PFA player of the year 2013

Apparently no defender has been nominated for any award across all the divisions.

@WhoScored
Danny Welbeck: In 1204 minutes of gametime in the Premier League this season, Welbeck has scored 1 goal from 38 attempts (2.6% conversion)

He has been nominated by his fellow pros for his teamwork. Truth is that he is a defensive forward at the moment like Kuyt.

These awards are badly flawed. For one they should have an exclusive award for every position and then an outright award.

isn't that basically just the team of the year award? The show itself lasts about 2 hours as it is, if they gave out an award for every league and every position they'd be there all night.

I'd say the more worrying thing is his lack of attempts rather than his conversion rate.

Defensive players do clearly not get recognised. They could give out the individual position awards all at once, get them lined up on stage. There is a team of the year but it is not really publicised. I feel that there should be more emphasis on it.

Nice to see Carrick get nominated, Hazard is an odd choice over Cazorla and Michu.

Nominations for YPOTY

Christian Benteke, Romelu Lukaku, Danny Welbeck, Gareth Bale, Jack Wilshere and Eden Hazard

Wilshere's nomination is weird. As is Welbeck's TBH. Also why the feck is Bale up for YPOTY.

Can't help but feel Wilshire and Welbeck are on this list because they are English. I think Benteke might win as if Villa stay up he's pretty much the reason.

They really need to lower the age limit on this award.

Why is everyone laughing at the notion Hazard has been nominated? Hes nowhere near going to win, but hes not exactly been poor or average has he? Christ you;d think it were Andy Carroll or something! You aren't exactly laughing at the fact Carrick has been nominated and you'd be hard pushed to find anyone besides the most ardent Red supporters who would say he has played better than Hazard this season.

Sour grapes methinks, I don't think some will ever get over the fact he joined us instead, so will always exaggerate any poor play and mute any good play so he will never be that good in their eyes!

Actually I think the general public has realized how good Carrick is over the last two seasons, though it has taken some time.

People aren't laughing at Hazard for his performances, we're laughing because there's much better players out there this season (Cazorla, Michu, Zabaleta has been brilliant for City, Nastasic for the young player's award...). He's been ok for his first season but after a flying start he hasn't been "player of the year" worthy by any standards.

:lol::wenger:

More comedy from you Rob. Carrick has single-handedly kept our midfield afloat this season and has comfortably been the best midfielder in the premiership this year. Fully deserves a nomination. Hazard has been good but no where near as influential.

Oh, and how has Oscar not been nominated for YPOTY? Surely more deserving then Welbeck or Wilshere

 seriously ? Are you fecking shitting me?

...

Seriously?

Yes absolutely seriously. Obviously its going to be hard for me to push that because you study Carrick a lot more than you study Hazard, I dont think theres much in it, but like I say, if you watch Carraick closely and watch Hazard closely you aren't going to find many people who would put Carraick above Hazard, besides the obvious red majority.

My main point was people finding it 'laughable' as though hes bene poor or average this season. Its not laughable, it might be unexpected as there have been better players no question, but the notion its 'laughable' is clear resentment of him because of his attitude, and turning United down.

But he has.

Ok then put your money where your mouth is, create a poll on a non bias football forum and see. If im wrong Ill accept it, but Im confident I would not be.

Lol, no City players.

Carrick has to be there when you think about it. No chance that we would see Rafael or de Gea. I had to laugh when Townsend said he can't understand why Lescott isn't in the City team. They always talk about it pregame, saying they cant see what Nastasic brings.

Wilshere is entirely predictable. Cleverley has done a lot more for club, country and Team GB if they needed to have an Englishman. You can't talk about Welbeck when Walker won it last year.

Bale on both lists just in case, and i guess Hazard for star quality.

Seems like plenty of United fans are as surprised as you.

Ok, before the stats start coming out to try and prove why everyone should see Carrick as having played better than Hazard lets rewind a bit.

About 5 people here found it 'laughable' that he was nominated.

Why 'laughable'? Unexpected, yes but laughable indicates hes been poor or average which he hasn't, Hes one of main reasons we are still up there in 3rd place.

Hes one of those players which is always going to draw criticism from United no matter what he does because of their pursuit of him, the way he announced his club and the fact he didn't want to join them.

I dont dumb down Carricks achievements this seaosn, I am one of the few non United fans who can see hes been a good player this term, but I still think that you would be hard pushed to find a non bias conclusion that said Carrick had been better, that or at least that it was a perfectly deserved nomination whilst Edens was a joke.

You lot would fecking kill to have a player of Welbeck's quality.

Infact, if you had a few of them, you might not be 6 points behind Everton right now :smirk:;)

How's Wilshire made it onto the Young Player list? he's been out for a massive part of this season and since he's been back hasn't exactly set the league on fire. Obviously a top player but if he's to be judged on this season then he shouldn't be on it.

Michu should be on the player of the year in place of Hazard as well.

I like Hazard and never expected him to come here, I didn't follow any of the transfer "saga" at all so that that doesn't bother me either. He's just been nowhere near as good as Cazorla and plenty of others. It's unbelievable that you think he's been anywhere near as influential as Carrick.

You're quite precious aren't you?
Both Michu and Cazorla deserve to be on that list ahead of Hazard imo.

Who's been better? Ramires? Lampard? Gerrard? Toure? Wilshere? Carrick has been better than them all. Fact.

Bale, Michu, Cazorla, Mata, Or are you using a specific position? they are all classed as midfielders but can also operate as wingers.

You've barely watched United if you don't think Carrick deserves the nomination.

Either that or you are bitter.

I didnt say I dont think he deserves it, I said the idea that Hazards is laughable but Carricks is perfectly deserved is a fallacy.

Theres not been that much between them that one is deserved whilst the other is a joke.

Im quite precious of the fact its 'laughable' because its so obviously bitterness. Like I said its unexpected, but not a joke.

I was referring to the centre mid position, where Carrick has comfortably been the best in the prem this season. Why would I be comparing him to Bale or Michu? And you are wrong, it is laughable that you think Hazard has been better than Carrick this season. Mata - now there you have a case.

Im quite precious of the fact its 'laughable' because its so obviously bitterness. Like I said its unexpected, but not a joke.

It's not bitterness though people just think there are other better candidates and I agree.

Are people also bitter towards Welbeck because reading this thread the general consensus seems to be that he probably doesn't deserve to be on there ahead of players like Rafael and Nastasic?

You're being precious because you think it's an anti-Hazard agenda when people generally just don't rate him as one of the 6 best or most influential players in the league this season.

These awards are so fecking spastic. They can't even get the nominees right so I couldn't care less who wins.

Why is everyone laughing at the notion Hazard has been nominated? Hes nowhere near going to win

It's a diabolical nomination, all it will do is ensure Mata -far away the better player this season- loses some votes, and that some may find it so odd it may make them not vote for him for YPOTY.

If you've just gone "WTF? Hazard? What has he done to be there?" it hardly helps his case when you see his name again in YPOTY.

I expect the opposite effect on Bale, being up for YPOTY will turn many borderline decisions against him ("he will get YPOTY anyway").

RvP and Bale then, when Bale-Hazard would have been quite sensible.

Would be great to see van Persie win it the second year in a row - this time at United.

Hazard over Cazorla or Michu is laughable
