PFA player of the year 2013

Claudio Yacob had an excellent first 5 months or so, but faded a bit in the second half of the season. Cabaye seems to be very good in spells as well, but he seems to rarely have good back to back games. Difficult to judge consistency when Newcastle as a unit have been awful this year.

Struggling to think of anyone else who deserves it.

Should have just put Carrick in there twice.

If Sandro had played about a month longer than he would be in with a shout.

My only WBA mate keep talking about the hype of Youssef Mulumbu. Not seen enough though myself.

I would have had Mignolet or Begovic ahead of De Gea probably tbh based on this season in the Prem.

But good to see him there.

Giggs winning in 2009 was even more of a joke.

By the time he got the award, he had only 12 starts in EPL. It was more a life achievement awrd than a best player of the year award.

But Bale was really equally retarded. Nani who was arguably the best player that edition, wasn't even nominated.

Giggsy looks like: "Do we have to do another one of these hand-on-knees photos?"

Brilliant news. Can't think of a player I'd change in that team. Hazard being there was obvious considering he was nominated for player of the year. He's well in there I guess. Michu and Cazorla as well.

Bugger...that's added about a squillion quid to Levy's price.

Bale is the most exciting player in the league. He's had a very similar season to Ronaldo in the 06/07 year...though I doubt he'll reach the same heights.

Deserving if it is true that he's won both.

Because he played very well for no more then half the season. Plus he should not even be considered for young player of the year. The journos award next week has more creditability.

The same Journos that gave it to Scott Parker??

What an outstanding decision: hiring that comedian when racism in British football's been in the news this season...

No more than half the season? Hes been really good for almost 2 seasons now hasnt he?

I think it's fair that Bale won the award. If it wasn't for him, where would Spurs be? Possibly behind Liverpool. Where would we be without RVP? Probably still at the top.

Bale won both awards! What a joke.

Its not really a joke, it was entirely predictable.

In fact i did.

At the time they voted , he was dragging spurs to wins on his own.

That gets the votes, conversely , suarez is a cnut who will never get enough votes due to being so dislikable even to his peers, and VP was a cog in a very good machine by that point.

Bale was the stand out performer of the jan/feb period , its why he got all the votes, I would expect it to be a landslide with not even VP close to his totals.

You're doing that version of Ronaldo a huge disservice. He was far better then Bale was this season. Both Suarez and RVP have been better. Most of the players who vote for it just take the piss and don't even take it seriously.

Bale deserves his win of the award. He's been brilliant this season so the idea he's only had half a good season is nonsense.

Would love to see Suarez' reaction to that!

Fair play to Bale although I think he's too old to win YPOTY

I'd say the players who play against him week in week out are the best judge. And this is the second time in 3 years he's won this now. He must be doing something right.

That''s why the football journalists award is much better. They tend not to knee jerk and they take the season as a whole.

Yes. IIRC Ronaldo that season came 2nd in the wpoty awards behind Kaka?

I think the issue is that football has progressed to the point where players are hitting such a high standard whilst they remain so young.

It used to be that only truly top quality players would look like anything near the finished article in their early 20's. Nowadays you're past it if you're still improving at 24!

The voting is obviously blinkered by the time the voting is cast, as Bale has not been as good as RvP or Suarez for the entire season, but he's had a very good 2013 and had an incredible couple of months at the right time. Conversely, RvP was white-hot in 2012 but had a quieter spell at the critical time.

Fair play to Bale. Not saying he deserved it more than Van Persie or Carrick but you can have no qualms about Bale winning.

Is this the first time since Ronaldo that someone has scooped up both awards? I think Ronaldo that season (06/07) was comfortably better than Bale this season but he has been excellent and highly influential nonetheless.
