'Pep' Guardiola sack watch

I think they underestimated the loss of Kompany, playing wise and off the field. Factor in Fernandinho and Aguero being another year older. They miss the former in his natural position.

I think they're a bit leaderless. I don't know who on the field is meant to be the glue keeping them together, pushing them. But maybe that sort of thing is overstated and it's from a bygone era.

They are mental enough to sack him if he doesn't win the league or CL. He has the squad he wants now unlike his first year. An FA cup win might not be enough.

Anyone but Klopp seems like such a massive downgrade. Going from Pep to Poch would be mad, he'd be way out of his depth.
You mean with better players and actual money to spend? Yeah, he'd sink.

I dunno if they will, for as much as they're a bit of a mercenary club, they've generally been quite patient with managers; Pellegrini was allowed another season after not winning the league in 2014-15, and his success at the club beforehand hadn't been as extensive as Pep's. I reckon he'd get another full season provided they have a fairly strong 2nd place finish and win a cup competition.

Actually having the expectation to win every single trophy he plays for would be quite the culture shock to him. At least at Utd or Arsenal he'd be building. The City job is totally different.
Everything about him tells me he'd love it. It's called the next level.

I can see him walking away in the next 12-18 months. He's going to get burnt out very soon.

Can see him chucking it at the end of the season even if they do end up winning the league. I reckon he'll either go into international management or to Juventus/PSG next.

Sack him to bring in who? They're still among the favourites to win the CL.

Agreed. He's not comfortable in a league where his team aren't head and shoulders above the rest.

Yes, one of the 8 favourites with Liverpool, Bayern, Juventus, PSG, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Ajax. :D

Pure kneejerk thread.

Should Ferguson have been sacked after losing the league to Blackburn and FA Cup to Everton in 95? Sacked after losing the league to Arsenal in 98, or 02?

No one's ever won the league more than 3 times consecutively in a row in 130+ years of English football, its not easy to do for a reason.

Not much you can do when the opposition is on course to amass 100-110 points this season either.

He could get sacked, all depends on if he goes to war with the board for not backing him this summer/January. He’s quick to speak out about not being backed financially.

Can we have him as England manager?

I’m sceptical his style is right for international management, maybe for Spain but he seems the kind of manager that needs a lot of time with the team to get his tactics working properly. International football is generally more cagey too.

I'd expect him to walk after this season. All his efforts now will be on the champions league but I can't see them winning it.

Man City have dropped 13 points already this season, they only dropped 16 in the whole of last season and 14 points the season before that. A team with their resources shouldn't be losing 3 games before the festive period.

Why such a dip in that hugely consistent run? Not bringing in a replacement for Kompany, the loss of laporte felt more than expected or something else?

But, imagine what Benitez or Allardyce would do with this squad. 4 PL and CL trophies straight, none of this tiki taka nonsense, just 'ave it Brexit football

 FFS. How dare he not win three on a trot.

If he gets bored/wants a change it's a different matter. Peformance wise he isn't anywhere near leaving City or having to do so. He's done a terrific job.
2 prems in 4 years and no champions league. Is that any better than the previous city managers? Not that terrific

1. Loss of Laporte, Sane, Zinchenko. De Bruyne was out for a bit too.
2. Father time catching up to Silva the Elder
3. Otamendi falling out of form
4. Midfield being imbalanced due to lack of Fernandinho at base, Rodri still getting used to system

Those come to mind immediately.

First manager ever to win the domestic treble.
Record points tally, record number of goals, record number of wins.

He's had 3 attempts at the CL at a club that has never ever won it, psychologically its not the same as trying to win it with Barca. It took Chelsea long enough with their multiple failures/near misses between 2004-2012.

Mourinho is deemed a failure at Chelsea, to be fair. Imagine not winning the league 3 times in a row, or a CL, with all the money he spent.

Nope that's true even today. Last season Komoany was a part of that come back. Look at Barca post Xavi/Puyol etc.

This managerial lark is a bit of an up and down business, and not overly easy at all times - who'd have thunk it?

I thought thunk a declared genius would win everything in sight forever, but there you go. You learn something new every day.

Record this record that. Does anyone really care about records? It’s the trophies that count.
He was taken on at city to win the champions league. He had a great starting team and spent his own millions and done the same as previous city managers. I just don’t think that’s terrific

Might win it this year yet since he hasn't got the league to concentrate on.

Absolutely zero chance he gets sacked but he could walk away. Usually gets burned out after 3-4 years and it looks like this Liverpool team is getting stronger and stronger, not sure he’s got the fight in him to come back again next season.
