'Pep' Guardiola sack watch

Can you people stop reducing spending to transfer fees?

Do you think our first team spend on salaries was peanuts?

To say SAF spent a lot does not take away from the man's genius. We've seen many spend a lot and do nothing. Spending is no guarantee of success, we don't have to pretend like United didn't spend big as well ffs

Unless you have detailed wages info from premier league teams during the period 1992 to 2013 you don’t know if United paid higher salaries than other clubs if that’s what you are trying to imply.

what we do have with 100% accuracy is transfer fees and the matter of the fact is United spent less than Chelsea and Liverpool.

Fixed that for you.

I think it's very reasonable to believe that United had one of the highest, if not highest wage bills given the amount of talent we had on the books.

But that's not what was said!

It was generally accepted in late 90s that Chelsea and also Newcastle paid higher salaries than us. Not sure about other clubs but those two for sure. There was a reason Chelsea were able to load up on international players from the continent before most others started doing so.

I like how someone started with "We were the biggest spenders during Sir Alex and we only had to compete vs Arsenal and Chelsea" and then when people reply to correct the record with some extra detail, our dear old @adexkola starts shouting about reductionism. Tasty ironing.

Oh colour me shocked to see our resident Abu Adexola bigging up city and putting down Utd at every opportunity. Biggest City fan on here and doesn’t even try and hide it!

How are you my dear? :D

Splendid - it's been raining all day here in Northern California.

Anyway I'm just having a razz (is that a phrase? It should imply merriment, nothing toilet-related) and I enjoy our back and forth, mate, hope that comes across too. I love all caf's creatures, whether great, small, or know-it-all ;)

He's self depreciating because it eats him alive knowing he sold his footballing soul to Abu Dhabi and spent a billion to try win a third CL. He knows that people will raise the differences between the way he's won in england, and clough/ferguson, if anybody tries to make a comparison.
Yes I'm sure "it eats him alive" hearing the tears of people like you on internet forums:lol:
He's consistently ranked among the top 5 managers ever for a reason, and as he increases his trophy count, he'll only work his way up that list, regardless of what irrational detractors say.

Who mentioned what he think about what I say? It's himself he has to live with and he gets triggered hard every time a journalist tip toes around it. My comments only eat you alive, not him

Pep has too many choke moments in the biggest games in the world to be top 5 ever.
Pep takes a title winning side and gets beaten the title by Arteta, that does harm to a legacy if it happens.

You sound triggered hard, mate. No need to get personal. Wipe those tears.

I'm no Pep lover at all and agree he has choked in the past, but I think you're being a bit harsh if I'm being honest with regards to it harming a legacy.

He's won 4 out of the last 5 league titles and came runner up in the year they didn't win, add to that the trophies won at his previous clubs, surely that shouts legendary manager - doesn't matter if he loses a title to arsenal in 22-23 or a semi-final against Forest (putting aside the debate at how much he's had to spend, the squads he's inherited etc)

But he’s becoming a league bully when he has all the advantages. It helps him that he’s stayed in at City for so long imo. Spread his CL record over a fictional move to PSG and Juve (maybe? ) And his legacy takes a nose dive since it becomes more obvious how often he meddles and overthinks. What made him special is being left further and further in the past.
What will really hurt him is if his successor coming in and winning a few league titles after him. Maybe they’ll have a harder job of it because potentially 2 other clubs having oil money themselves but it’ll show if their success is down to the manager or the structure of the club and the advantages that brings.
Klopps league win and European run is more impressive than Peps while a potential Arsenal league win trumps both

Agree with most but the bold part is a bit of a strange comment. Why?

Agree with most but the bike but is a bit of a strange comment. Why?
Because he would have taken a worse squad than both, in a time when we were told nobody could challenge for the title until Klopp and Pep leaves English football, and beat both.
Arteta was a joke last season, he didn’t have league wins in Germany or CL final appearances / wins to instill any sort of trust in his management style. Trust the process was a meme for a reason and most of the fanbase wanted him gone.
To go from that to a potential league win is beyond ridiculous. I have a theory that the season being so long, coupled with a World Cup in the middle, has desensitised us to what exactly is happening this season. Liverpool struggling around 7th, Chelsea being 10th while City have become a cross it and hope for the best side with Haaland up top has been normalised. Arsenal being favourites for the title falls under this as well.

He's a chump that basically only posts on Messi or anything Messi adjacent. One for the ignore.

Ah here come the insults and the hysterical meltdown by someone who wasn't addressed, just to derail a thread for the umpteenth time.
Still waiting for you to press the ignore button when it comes to me, rather than follow me around like a personal lapdog.

No hysterical meltdown here, just letting the poster know you're not one to be taken seriously, despite the patronizing smilies etc!

When you put it like that, it's fair enough. Coupled with Arsenal not having won the league in 2 decades!!! If he breaks that curse then it is quite impressive I suppose.

he looks burnt out to me and like he needs another break from management for a bit. it’s not easy when you’ve done it all and are surrounded by hungry, up and coming managers, desperate to put one over on you. i’d imagine ten hag has replayed the 6-3 over and over again to work out what went wrong. the kind of stuff guardiola would have done in the past. i get the impression that instead of poring over videos of games and working out how to exploit weaknessss, guardiola is just watching homes under the hammer repeats and shouting things like “you’ll never get 6% yield on that shithole.”

too many of his recent signings have failed and he’s relying on the same old trusty lieutenants who have already won 6 premier league titles, and god knows how many league cups and the don’t have the motivation to bring themselves to be at the level required to win another. i’d imagine pep only renewed due to the terms being offered being impossible to turn down.

This post feels wrong, you should be banned from making serious ones.

Maybe that's what made Ferguson so great. Over a period of 9 years, United won 7 titles and lost the league by a point the other two times. It can't be easy to mentally recharge and get yourself to go again, all the time.

There are multiple examples of people on different sports needing to change scenery to refresh, or taking a short break (eg Jordan after his first title run with the Bulls)

He will, and he’s obviously done well with the three clubs he’s managed. But he’s pretty much always had the best squad in the league wherever he’s been. Winning titles with Barcelona, Bayern, and City aren’t the most spectacular feats.
No, but the way in which he won a lot of those titles is pretty spectacular.

Guardiola is a top 5 best ever managers in history regardless of people on internet forum agreeing on it or not.

And there's still 21 games to be played in the current league title.

Which is why he said if it happens. Big chance of that if we beat them on Saturday.

Big chance of what ? There'll still be 20 more games to be played.

And let's imagine Arsenal win it, so ? It's a one league title he lost in comparison to ton others he won. He would have lost the 2nd title in about 6 years. Hardly an issue.

Best managers in history lose trophies here and there, shocker!
