I wonder if City's senior management will now be emboldened to push back at Pep if he demands a large transfer outlay. I believe City have a few good youngsters and I can see City management only approving money for a new LB and CF. Would that sour the relationship between them enough to negatively affect the 2022-23 season?

It's obvious that Champions league is not his forte, he went out so many times against weaker clubs it's painful to watch at this point.

The question is why didn't he prioritize a goalscoring wide forward to replace Sterling instead of signing Grealish? 100 million on someone who barely moves the needle is such strange decision making.

Jokes aside I dont think this defeat is on him or how he put the team out there. Some are saying he played possesion game and to pass time. Which is actually smart, he should have gone too offensive, he had the result all the while being active offensively but not too open. If Ederson had come out for the ball instead of Rodrygo scoring or Graelish scored one of those 2 shots before we'd be talking differently and its football. Things change in a second.

Agree Grealish isn’t what they need, maybe Pep is obsessed in having ball player who is good in ball progression, rather than impact type of goalscoring forward.
But I think they originally want Kane last summer for goalscoring but Spur refuses to sell. They then turn their attention to Ronaldo but we hijacked the bid. This summer though they will be signing Haaland so this may solve their problems.
Absolutely, Fergie is a great example. By common consensus the GOAT manager. But won the CL only twice, 10 years apart. Many bad losses along the way. Is Zidane a better manager than Fergie because he won 3 in 5 years (or whatever it is) and Fergie won 2 in 20 years? Of course not. It's a knockout competition.
I agree with you about PSG and City, there's something amusing about the manner in which those clubs seem unable to win the Champions League. They will probably get there though, I think it's just very hard to win it for the first time (it's the same with the World Cup). There's just something in the DNA of the historically great clubs that favours them in that competition. Look at how long it took doped up Chelsea to get over the line after so many heartbreaks and near misses.
It's in his character to be the leader himself - that's why his teams are successful. It's both a flaw and a strength I suppose. There's more than one way to win of course.
City players can play pretty and effective football, but they have a soft center, they lack the Kompany, Fernandinho profile (I know he was subbed on but he is past it at this stage), the way the conceded those two quick fire goals reminded me of our 3-2 comeback against them. Against any opposition that comes close to matching their quality I always fancy them as second best. The simply are bullies who don't know how to fight against their equals.
If they bottle the league, I think pep will self combust.
I think City and Pep lack a belief they can win the Champions League. Pep knows they're a small club and hasn't won it himself in a very long time. They will need a new manager to do it, someone who has won it recently.
Pep made a huge mistake taking off De Bryune and Mahrez too early. He was thinking it was all over, and looking ahead to league games coming up.

Outside of De Bruyne we have had fantastic teams but lacked the kind of talismanic player that can snatch wins out of nowhere. Aguero was that for us in the league, and while his CL record was very good the team often let him down. Sane was on his way but sadly not to be. Haaland in my opinion is already a proper CL talisman who just need a team, and we are finally long-overdue a team that consistently reach the semis and finals. We are huge fecking bottlers, but a final last season and leading this jammy mentality-monsters of a Madrid side for 178 minutes really isn't a bad couple of seasons if you take all the emotion away from it.

His transfer recruitment, and game management vs the top sides in Europe haven't been great. He wins the league by default most seasons by having a huge squad, but if Liverpool make a signing or two I fully expect them to challenge as they now have a large squad themselves. Had they had Diaz from the start of the season to give Mane and Salah a rest they'd likely be ahead of City.
He's a great manager but the label of the best ever is a bit too much when in this current generation what Klopp has done is more impressive for me.

That’s a great stat. Not because it tells the story of every single one of those games but for what it tells us about when a Guardiola team losss control (or feels like they have).

inherited treble winners in 2014 already the best in Europe. In 2009 the team that beat us in the CL final, 9 of the starting 11 were already there including Messi, Eto'o Henry and Iniesta and Xavi who had both showed out in Summer 2008 winning the Euros with one of the best midfield displays.
