Pep Guardiola agrees 1 year contract extension | Includes additional 1 year option

Has any other half decent team ever done something like this where they've gone from winning pretty much every game to losing against everyone mid-season? I know Rodri got injured but they kept winning without him for a month, albeit against some pretty average teams, but still. A squad like that shouldn't stand or fall depending on a single player.

If it happened between seasons with a lot of changes in the squad you could understand it, but a complete collapse starting in November must be fairly unprecedented no?

Think Dortmund in Klopp's last season there were in the relegation zone well into the season. But I remember reading that the stats didn't reflect the results at all and things turned around in the second half. But City's results very much reflect their performances now.

Turning into Ten Hag in how he sets us up to fail. Might be time to try and grow some hair

Leeds finished 17th the season after winning the league winning 12 out of 42 games

So, is he going to get some actual criticism soon, or will be more of Neville's "They've just hit the wall from all of the winning"?

Him resigning before the charges for the 130 infractions would completely destroy his legacy. It would make him look like the biggest quitter and coward ever and give the appearance that he abandoned the club.

“You ran away as soon as you hit the first ever bump in the road over your entire career” will be all you’ll hear. Can’t see him walking no matter how bad it gets.

In complete freefall. Managers rarely come back from this, even if they are Pep Guardiola.

Losing Rodri is an understandable gap. But seeing their whole team not pressing or trying, and so easy to play against is surprising. Happy new year

They won't sack him but Pep might hand his notice in soon if this continues.

He already quit his boyhood club when the pressure got too much for him, so he has form

Right, usually when a team implodes they end up bottom half of the table. City are only a point off top 4.
Well we have fallen from a relatively great height. Until Bournemouth in november we were unbeaten in 32 games in the league if I'm not mistaken, and top of the league. 4 points since then but just not enough games to fall further in the table. But pretty unprecedented collapse, and if we continue rushing players back from injury while our tactics doesn't change to help the players actually on the pitch it is hard to see us turn this around anytime soon

That's because they got 23 of the first 27 points. After that they have got 4 of the last 24. I'm not sure there's a precedent for a team that was so strong so recently to collapse in such a catastrophic manner.

Ducker just scratched himself again in the post match interview.

Are they on a cycling off season on terms of legal performance enhancing drugs?

That was the case with Liverpool under klopp wasn't it, when they needed a cycling off season from the huge amounts of cafinee they would injest

People say this as if there isn't millions and millions of pounds to be had if you just outstay your welcome a couple more games.

The guy is set up for life regardless. He’ll have shares and other interests with Abu Dhabi.

They had no business getting those 23 points. They'd been squeaking through against a few midtable teams. They were also lucky to play Chelsea first up before they got used to their new manager and a weakened Arsenal under a scared Arteta.

Maybe he's doing a Biden. He doesn't want the job anymore with charges and all that. But he doesn't want to fight his oily overlords either.

City were abysmal today, one of the worst performances yet. Second half, they struggled to even get past Villa's midfield, never mind their defence. They’re now at risk of getting pulled into the chasing pack in the mid table. Unfortunately they have an exceptionally easy run coming up, even in this form they seem unlikely to muck it up. But still, a lot of damage has been done.

The real problem for Pep is that this team needs rebuilding. De Bruyne, Silva, Walker, Gundogan, Kovacic and perhaps Stones are approaching the back end of their careers to various degrees, plus a couple like Doku and Savinho don’t look good enough. That’s a major rebuild. Does he have the appetite for that? It’s one thing to stick on for an extra year or two with a team that’s flying, it’s another thing entirely to tear a team up and start again from scratch with 4 or 5 new faces in the first team.

Klopp never looked like he would see through the rebuild he started at Liverpool, and so it proved. Pep feels even less likely than Klopp to accept a season or two of wonky form while he rebuilds. If he finishes a country mile off the title, wouldn’t be surprised to see him walk in the summer.

The batch of roofs they got this time around is clearly not doing the job. Need a new supplier.
