Pep Guardiola agrees 1 year contract extension | Includes additional 1 year option

Didn't he say that he'd leave once he could no longer motivate the players?

Could that be starting to happen now?

Excellent news he's signed a new deal. Even in our darkest days over the past decade, we've not outright lost 5 in a row.

Long may he continue.

They’ll come back strong in the second half and grab a late winner. The emotion this brings will propel them on a huge unbeaten run which will stretch into next spring, ending with a 5th, deserved, PL title success.

An immense achievement for Messr. Guardiola, and a fine toast to his greatness.

Will he sign on for another year beyond his extension now that city have lost 5 in a row?

It's over. The new contract was just a last hail mary at salvaging the slump.

Many of their signings have flopped lately haven’t they?

Grealish, Savinho, Doku, Nunes. Gundogan coming back looks another one.

This is fraudulence transcended. Enron and Arthur Andersen look like the beacons of sincerity in comparison.

What's Rodri's contract situation like?

He’s finally done. His football doesn’t work without the top elite players which is why Barca was his best team. City’s players have regressed too much and this is what you are left with.

Edit- they said he was better than SAF but he did it for 20 years but this cnut can’t last 10. No fecking comparison. Give pep Aberdeen and he does absolutely nothing.

This is a massive rebuild yeah. 2/3 windows easy.

Mate he can’t win shit unless he has the very best players. It’s a 10 year rebuild because unlike SAF he needs the absolute perfect conditions to be successful. He failed at Bayern because it all wasn’t set up perfectly for him.

Good to know he plays around with his spit in his mouth for a little while before gracing the earth with it.

I've been saying this the whole time. All he'd do in the Aberdeen job was cry that he needed 500 million and Messi before he could get any results.

Anyone who says that Pep is better than SAF needs to have a word with themselves.

I think we need to be realistic. I’m really enjoying this but hoping spurs get 4 or 5.
In fairness to Pep he’ll rightly go down as one if the best ever, I hope with Amorim coming in we’ll see a change of the guard but I think Pep will be back. Some managers bounce back and others fade, Mourinho has certainly faded.

 Good one. He’s no Sir Alex, that’s for sure.

Sir Alex didn’t have a blank chequebook either, and a third of it was done under Glazernomics.

No way this is all because Rodri is missing, and if it actually is, which again it can’t possibly be, then that is a poor reflection on Pep who can’t adapt his team to deal with his absence.

Yeah it's not just Rodri. It's poor transfers in general.

Doesn't matter who the manager is. He's only as good as his players.

Players are playing like they know something.

It's not just Rodri, it's a lot of factors. But Rodri is that good that when he plays he mitigates almost every issue, be it a defensive one, an issue with tempo/control of the game or even in terms of the actual scoring of goals (be it by scoring or assisting). And without him it's suddenly apparent that the City squad is in the stage of a huge rebuild with its leaders (De Bruyne, Walker, Gündogan & to a lesser extent Silva) not being nearly as good as they were at their physical peak, their young talents (be it Lewis or someone like Doku) not being ready to take on the mantle yet and their only proper world-class player at the peak of his powers being way too reliant on service and not contributing much when the entire team is in a crisis.

He literally won the title last year. Fergie also had periods when he hadn't won much and had poor runs with United (not sure about 5 losses in a row but here's a similar one from 2001) during multiple rebuilds. It's way too early to write him off, he'll probably win something even this season (although the league doesn't look likely at this point).

It expires in the summer of 2007. And he just said something along the lines of "it would be an honour to get an offer from the best club in history" (responding to a leading question, not out of the blue).
