All it takes is a few weeks of no signings. The fans just want buys buys buys all the time. The thrill of getting our business done early has worn off so people want more, when they aren't getting it there is negativity.

If we signed Otamendi now, people would be over the moon and predicting title wins. By deadline day if we hadn't signed Pedro..after 2 weeks of nothing, the same people would be predicting us 3rd/4th.

Then when the window shuts and we can't buy players, fans start to develop a little more reason.
Wenger is thinking of the muppets' health when he suggests that the transfer window should be closed before the season begins.

LVG's comments make this look pretty fecking nailed on. Ballbag is, as usual, clueless. City have one space for a non-hg, they can't be going for Pedro, De Bruyne and Otamendi all at the same time, at least two of them ain't happening.

What has he said thats clueless? FYI The deal with Otamendi is apparently to include Mangala going the other way. And they probably want one of De Bruyne or Pedro, makes sense to bid for both incase you miss the other. So Pedro/KDB plus Otamendi, taking away Mangala means they are still okay on the homegrown quota.

I agree with you although others don't, at this moment in time city are a far more attractive proposition for players than we are.

They have better players at the club in general
They have a few he knows already
Pellegrini is a better manager than Lvg
They can offer better transfer fees for the selling club
They can offer more in wages than us that will just be a case of paying what we don't want to pay
They have a far greater chance at winning the league
They have better chance at going further than us in the champs league (although they are miles away from winning it).

The only thing we've got going for us is the fact we have a heavy spanish presence in our team which would help him settle and the fact that he would be signing for Manchester United although that doesn't mean as much as people think nowadays.
For your sake I hope you're joking, sadly I don't think you are.

It defnitely won't going to help United if the deal takes so long. Coming to a new country (don't believe he knows English as well) and to a totally new system, he's going to need time to settle down. Chelsea did something good last season in terms of transfer, they got all deals done well before the season started. The team had time to gel and practice.

Let me take a crack at it:

They have better players at the club in general - debatable - Aguero, Silva and Toure are the obvious stars and spine of the club - for other positions I think we have better players/options.
They have a few he knows already - so do we
Pellegrini is a better manager than Lvg - very debatable and if he doesn't win something I doubt he'll be there next season. Won only one title in Europe in his managerial career.
They can offer better transfer fees for the selling club - doubt that, rather on the contrary given how much we're spending since last year and given the FFP
They can offer more in wages than us that will just be a case of paying what we don't want to pay - doubt that as well. It's not like we don't pay high wages.
They have a far greater chance at winning the league - if we get Pedro and the squad is as it is I think we have the same chance as them.
They have better chance at going further than us in the champs league (although they are miles away from winning it). - that is the complete bollocks out of all. What have exactly they achieved in CL so far?

I'm in the "we need a rapid, not just fast, winger" - is Pedro that? I've never thought of him as being in the Walcott/Lennon/Valencia/Ronaldo bracket.

at this point anyone who is willing to even jog with the ball at the opposition defence is faster and displaying more purpose than our current options. Pedro is plenty fast enough.

Pedro's pace is good enough to outrun defenders. Besides, pace isn't everything. Pedro is a highly intelligent winger who consistently makes good choices, he's technically very sound and a good goalscorer as well. He also has a knack for stepping up in big games.

Of course pace isn't everything, but we need someone seriously quick. Pace is important to stretch teams and to have them think about something else but tedious passing. I know he is a good player, but I haven't watched him enough to know much about his true pace. Besides, Barca doesn't play to those strengths.

Which is why we need some serious pace. I would love someone like Anderson, the winger, at United as he looks Bale+ fast. I know there is a lot more to the game than pace, but our current team has a lot more, but in attack we lack pace.

I can comfort you in saying that Pedro is fast enough to comfortably outrun defenders and stretch teams. He's not Walcott/Aubameyang-fast but fast enough.

Good enough. If he can run at speed and change directions, he will offer something different from Valencia who is faster than 99% of footballers, but only in a very straight line.

I expect the next major development we will get on this will be announcing an agreement. I doubt LVG would be saying it's up to Pedro if we are not willing to meet their demands.

It is dragging on a little which is slightly concerning but I still expect us to get this wrapped up shortly. Not worried about City players like Pedro understand what playing for a club with pedigree means.

So are Barca trying to persuade Pedro to stay here? He plays tonight from the start. Will he be thinking that actually if any of Messi Suarez or Neymar miss games he's next in line? That would mean chances are he'll play quite a bit.

Playing right now in the Super Cup. Barcelona losing by a goal and Pedro's on a yellow card. Lets hope he gets himself sent off so they don't need him for the second leg.

He's plenty quick, pace is not an issue for him at all

Just saw the highlights, he was unlucky not to score, hit the bar.
