Paulinho set to trigger Premier League bidding war

Well he did have an amazing WC in 2002. Low profile but usually one of the best in the pitch, really.

Looking today, Paulinho is a great box to box. I would rather have him than Strootman, granted I've seen the brazilian more more than the dutchman who didn't impress me at all. But my muppet choice would be Hernanes.

I agree completely. Hernanes

And scored the winner. Was great today, and has a lot to benefit from a move to the pl

Can play as a deep midfielder, box to box, and even as a AM. Has a fierce shot,no wonder Lazio fans rate him highly.
I always love this gif of him playing for Sao Paulo against Inter's D'Alessandro:
HERNANES..gif

A friend told me that Real hijacked the move to Spurs and he is joining them now. Is that true?

Didn't hear anything, but wouldn't doubt it. Althought some would think they are set in midfield. Maybe they are letting Modric join us.

Good for you guys. You'll have a proper midfielder since Modric's departure rather than Dembele pretending to be one.

He looks like exactly the kind of player we should be going for. Physically imposing, technically sound, defensively aware, good passer and has a goal in him - perfect player for a midfield duo and would compliment Carrick well. Definitely an upgrade on Ramires for Brazil. If Spurs do sign him up I could see him ousting Dembele from the team on the odd occasion when they want to play Bale in behind the striker. Gustavo looks no better than Sandro to me so Spurs could conceivably have Brazil's first-choice midfield duo this time next year.

Would be a cracking signing for anyone in the Premier League really. Unfortunately for Spurs, I can see a lot more attention coming his way after his performances in the Confederations Cup, he has been excellent. I'll admit, I hadn't heard of him before this summer but now I wouldn't say no to having him at United.

Tonight was the best performance I've seen from him in the tournament, he dominated Xavi and showed good composure and awareness once he got the ball, certainly looks well above Strootman.

If Thiago is a certain no, we'd be nuts not to be sniffing around Paulinho. He's a genuine starter for a well rounded Brazil team, has a fair price on his head and looks genuinely decent.

Only seen him in internationals, but has put in some grand displays over the last few I've seen from him. Seems to have a bit of everything.

If Spurs get him, their midfield could be amazing. Dembele and Sandro both performed last season, throw in Paulinho and its better.

I'm sure someone will say Kleberson looked good in 2002 or 2003 but save your fingers, it's irrelevant.

Is that not a foul? He headbuts his leg

I would dare the wrath of football experts on here and say that he would be a better option than Thiago for our midfield. This tournament was the first time I saw him and he impressed me no bounds. He is a good ol' fashioned true central midfielder, from a time when they were not categorized as DM's, AM's, holding mid's etc. The guy can do everything that you would expect from a central midfielder and do it well. Brwned mentions him perfectly in a few posts above.

He would be able to play in the midfield with Carrick or without him with any other partner. He is someone we expected Anderson to be. For the quoted £17m he is a steal and we should grab him under the noses of Spurs.

Him and Thiago are different type of players, so yeah.

It's a bit too late for that methinks.
"I can't give you any details at this moment, it's impossible," he told Gazeta Esportiva when quizzed about his future.

"I will still talk with Corinthians and with my agent before making a decision. When I decide, I'll tell everyone."

Strong rumours from Madrid coming too. Don't be so confident Glaston, activating a release clause is child's play.

He has a release clause of £17m?

Well, we'll see. Things are a lot further down the line than simply having activated a release clause.

Small Paul to United's Reserve Squad (SPURS)

Surely his performances will have pushed his price up?

Thiago

He's impressed me over the tournament and looks like the sort if player we could use and the price sounds good too, seems to tick all the boxes even if we might still want to add a more creative player on top. Can only hope he's being considered but then with spurs looking like they've done the deal doesn't seem like we're too interested.

If bigger teams show interest then he wont be going to Spurs.

It doesn't always work that way. Just as it didn't with Bale.

Paulinho at Spurs would have a both regular starting spot and the chance to play alongside his Brazilian team-mate Sandro in CM .... all strong considerations in the run-up to the World Cup. I imagine that Scolari will have given Paulinho every encouragement to make the move.

Bale was a kid. He needed a second tier club to get game time.

This just illustrates my point: it's another example of the many possible reasons - reasons that will vary depending on circumstance - as to why a player may choose to come to Spurs ahead of alternative options. Vertonghen is further example.

So if RM want Paulinho it doesn't mean he'll go there.

Is this one of those scenarios where we look back in 6 months time and add another midfielder to the list we should have signed?

Can we have Santos?
