I wish we'd won the league last year, if only for the absolute beauty of seeing Scholes win the league after having retired. It's so frustrating that there wasn't a happy ending to his return. He really deserved it.

This pass

If ever a  smiley was needed

I thought he shanked it at first, from the camera angle...as if I've ever seen Scholes shank a ball!

I got the same feeling the first time I saw Ronaldo's goal against Roma. When Scholes chipped the ball into the penalty area I thought "what a shit pass from Scholes, who the hell he passed it too?" Only to saw Ronaldo flying through the air and scored one of the best headed goal I've seen.

Changed the match again for me.

Ridiculous how he's still so much better in possession than so many of our midfielders.

Agreed - changed the game in a way no one else was capable of.. that said Liverpool going to 10 men affected their pressing game.

What the feck are we going to do without Scholesy. Please don't go Scholesy.

Always mixed feelings when he turns a game for us like this. Frustration that we still have to rely on him, worry at how we'll do without him when he properly retires but mostly amazement at how great a player he still is.

Them being down to 10 men benefited him greatly but it's worrying that he's still so much better on the ball than most other players in our team. Give him time and space and he's still one of the most dangerous around.

His composure and class on the ball. Second to none really. Take a bow you absolute Legend. I love you Scholesy. :')

He taught us how to pass again but we can't keep relying on him to do that.

Today it's something we should be very grateful for. This was a game we didn't really deserve to win and he made a big difference for us.

He had a big impact and with them down to 10 was the perfect player to bring on, don't think he would have had the same impact with them with 11 as they would have pressed more. However I think we really need a midfielder that will actually play alongside Carrick like him regularly. Giggs/Clev etc all look to push on but with us playing so wide it leaves us too exposed to counters as there's too much space between players, if we lose the ball teams can break in numbers against usually just one midfielder.

Last 2 games scholes has not played very well to be honest.

I think he needs to be used sparingly. Its pretty ridiculous that we are relying on him, especially in a 2 man midfield, when defending its like being down to 10 men.

I do love him to bits and im in awe when he is playing well, but cleverley needs to take the mantle on.

fecking ridiculously good, only issue is everyone depends on him far too much.

What is love? Robin van Persie. Van Persie. Paul Scholes.

Plays like that when the opposition sit off and let him. In the first when Spurs harried us all over the park and played with lots of energy, Scholes and the rest of them couldn't handle it.

To be fair Scholes was our best player First Half too and I'm fairly sure Spurs tried to mark him in the Second Half and they still couldn't touch him.

2nd goal was on him - as Spurs broke he just jogged back. That's the risk of playing him - he makes us tick but, can be real liability.

Best player of a very bad bunch. We rely on him too much, he receives the ball every time we are about to attack and that speaks volumes about the rest of the team. Why should we be relying on him to get us out of trouble all the time? He retired and had to come back because our midfield was still crap.

They definitely sat off compared to the energy and closing down they showed in the first, and defending a lead at Old Trafford you expect to defend a barrage of attacks. Scholes is great for when we are playing a weak side and have most of the ball but in the first half today it shows that him and Carrick struggle against a team playing with a high tempo.

Perfect game to show the benefits and drawbacks of scholes. When twy were competing we were to deep cause of scholes and when carrick did push on we got exploited on the counter cause scholes could hold the fort. However once they sat back scholes ran the game. In the grand scheme of things I think him starting was ok and could have been compensated by dropping kagawa deeper and not playing giggs wide.

Yeah I agree to be fair, Cleverley and Anderson deserve another shot with perhaps Carrick in behind this time.

To me that's doing him a bit of a disservice, it's a given he won't be that effective if he's not given space and time. But he wouldn't need the opposition to sit off if we had other midfielders who could pull the opposition about a bit more. I'd like to see him with Anderson and Cleverley because with their movement the opposition wouldn't just have to nullify him and I reckon he would still be effective. One things for sure we all know him Carrick and Giggs should never start the same game.

I still don't think them 2 are the answer but I'd like us to give it another shot. We didn't fix the problem in the summer so we have to stick with this lot until next year.
