Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

Renato is reportedly 18. Pogba is 23.

5 years ago, Pogba was occasionally making the bench, the few cameos he was given he failed to impress against weak opposition and anyone who thought he was 'miles ahead' of the rest of our youth team are looking through rose tinted glasses. His move to Juve was largely uncontested by any other big clubs and he wasn't the 3rd, 4th or 5th choice midfielder for one of the best managers the game has seen.

I acknowledged that every youth player follows a different development curve.

Renato has clearly displayed more talent than Pogba did 5 years ago. Even if you use the argument that Benfica is a worse club in a worse league, looks at his performances on European and International level. Renato has seized the chances he has been given and deservedly earned a transfer to one of the largest clubs in the world.

I fail to see anything absurd about my post.
Exactly what you said, it's a stupid argument to compare Pogba at 18 to Sanches, as Pogba didn't get any first team football. But Pogba the year after at 19 in Juve did fantastically well. But for me, Sanches is amazing due to his beastly physicality and pace, while Pogba always had the flair and skill along with having good physical attributes. Sanches is fairly average technically imo and technical ability is something that is generally easier to pick up when younger (when learning your trade as a kid). So, it will be interesting to see how Sanches develops not that he's moved to Bayern.

Seriously how will they fund the Higuain deal as well as a bumper new contract for Pogba? They have to get rid.
Yeah, even though I agree, I don't think Juve are a skint club. They could do both, at a stretch. It's unlikely they will though, & seriously, I don't think many clubs would turn down a €120m+ bid for Pogba.

Also, iirc, they've sold a few players (Vidal/Morata) and haven't really spent a lot to build their squad over the years. They should have money.

It's clearly a done deal.

Will be very interested to find out what the delay was though. I doubt we are waiting for a significant date in terms of his contract, as he signed his renewal in Oct 2014 and it ends on 30th June 2019. Surely we aren't just hanging on for him to finish his holiday. That seems rather pointless.

And they could easily sell Bonucci to us or City for £50m

He has a point, Sanches is already further in his career than Pogba was at his age, you can't deny that. Bayern just paid a huge amount of money for him, he has been in a euro final with Portugal, he has been in the CL, it is impressive at age 19.

But Pogba is the better player right now and it remains to be seen if Sanches can reach that level in the next 4 years.

It is like when Pogba was 19 people were saying Ravel was the better talent, at that time he was but he Pogba clearly developped much better. We will have to see how Sanches develops, he can become as good, he can become maybay better, he could also become alot worse than Pogba.

So you conveniently choose to pick the year before he actually got his breakthrough and based you entire argument on him making few cameo for us.

The guy at 19 was being picked in a MF with the likes of Pirlo, Marchisio and Vidal and went on to win 4 Serie A titles. He became a regular in a very strong midfield and hasn't looked back since then. Let's see Renato play himself into a regular spot in a strong Midfield consisting of top class players at 19. Your post is baffling in so many level.

Pogba's talent was all obvious for everyone to see, everyone was raving about his talents and we were all let down when we heard about his leaving. At 18 unlike Renato he didn't get to play and given much chances which lead to his unfortunate departure(many agree that he should have been given plenty of chances to play not recall Scholes from retirement and playing Rafael in MF).

And for the record Pogba didn't failed to impress with us, he simply wasn't given a proper chance to play regularly(he had like maybe 3 appearances before the whole Scholes debacle came to). And the following year after leaving us he proved himself in a team with better MF than ours further proving that he wasn't handled well by SAF when it came to game time.

Let's see Renato get himself a regular starting place in a top class midfield at 19 then we can talk.

Oh behave.

"It's done, it's just the timing of the announcement".

If it was he wouldn't be going to Turin tomorrow, how can't people understand that.

Why on earth would we want a player we are spending 100mil on not to be with the squad at Wembley tomorrow? (Not playing just with the squad).

Why would we want to waste time flying him from NY to Italy to Manchester.

As I have said before the excuses have run dry. If it is indeed done there is no way he would got to Italy. Something which has been stated by several sources which we all chose to believe to some extent. (He will fly directly to Manchester not to Italy).

If you can't see that, it isn't my problem.

No. But the selling clubs have sometimes.
Aargh thanks Sparky. I was trying to think if I could recall us ever announcing anything over weekends. It'll probably be done early next week. Monday even.

And they could easily sell Bonucci to us or City for £50m
Yeah, not to mention Dybala, for more than double that! :wenger:

*wishful thinking*

We announced that we'd signed Darmian and that we'd agreed a deal for Bastian on the same Saturday last year.

And we announced a deal for Kagawa on a Sunday.

The 'we never announce deals on a weekend' thing, is bollocks.

Most on this forum said Sky aren't as reliable anymore.

At this stage, I would not trust any journalist or news agency.
Telegraph said he will sign 2 days ago.
Di Marzio said he'd sign a week or so - again he was wrong, because he tweeted again a few days ago stated that the deal is still being negotiated.
Several other news sources have been taking guesses of when the deal will be announced and every single one of them were wrong.

The only sources I trust are BBC and MUFC (themselves).
BBC have mentioned nothing.
However, Mourinho in his PC yesterday, clearly stated that he is looking to get the deal signed by the end of next week. So, perhaps we are looking at signing him next Friday or thereabouts.

Only 29 pages to go until this epic thread reaches 1000, impressive work guys! If it's not announced until Monday then I fully expect us to hit that muppet target. I'm sure Woodwards just waiting for us to get to that magic number before he lets United announce the deal, it would explain everything if you think about it. Can't wait to have Pogba as a red devil again.

I thought we were done with these sort of posts?

And also Schneiderlin on the very next day after Schweinsteiger and Darmian. I was so excited by the trio. :(

Simon Stone from the BBC tweeted yesterday that he was told there still no deal.

If he trains with juventus hes a juventus player its incredibly simple. I am responding to someone who said it was done. Done is the key word. Done. if its done he wouldn't train with his former club.
But Mourinho said yesterday that Pogba was still a Juventus player, so why the sudden meltdown now, not yesterday when Mou said it?

Jeez, tiring read at times this thread!

I'm still in the camp that he'll be announced Monday or Tuesday. But can't deny it's dragging on and will be better for all concerned when it's sorted!

Don't get me wrong, they have cash. But they've just bought the third most expensive player of all time. Also, a new Pogba contract may mean other players start demanding. Even the likes of Madrid need to sell big before buying big. I just don't see them splashing that sort of cash.

The most reliable source we have got is not from Di Marzio or any Italian journalists but comes from the Manchester United manager, and he said 'we have 22 players and are going to get the 23th' and 'he is going to be a very good midfield player'. That is all we need to hear and know

It will be announced today lads. Keep faith.

Today is 6th August. 06/8. What does that spell?

P0684 = POGBA

Pogba to be announced on 06/8 at 4pm. Illuminati confirmed.

Are transfers ever held up due to "the player is on holiday" reason?
Genuine question.
I ask this because Pogba could sign a document which will be like winning the lottery (multiple times over) and it seems odd that a player is not willing to "break" his holiday for the most important event in his life.

The mention of training. Of course Mourinho would be diplomatic, same with allegri. But if Pogba does actually go to training tomorrow that's all you need to know.

Yeah, anyway I'm sure they could have had the contract emailed to him in USA or whatever.

I think more than a fair few posters have already given examples of players with imminent departure reporting for training, I seriously don't see what the fuss is about.

Because people are saying it is done, if he is at training tomorrow it doesn't mean it can't happen but everyone on here talking nonsense about how its just an announcement left to happen have to accept it isn't done.

If it means being the centre of attention I'd imagine so yes.

Centre of attention in the Pogba thread. Irony.

I'm just saying the excuses are drying up, whats wrong with that.

1st it was China
2nd was Zlatan Game
3rd Rooney testimonial
4th Ongoing holiday.

So yeah please pipe down.

Mate don't bother, it's not what people want to hear so you will just get hammered for it.

If people can't see the stupidity of letting a player go to training with Juve when it's a supposed done deal then that's their problem.

How about you and everyone else, calm down, have a bit of patience and see if he actually goes to training before pissing your collective pants?

Yet people starting getting their cocks out when Di Fraudio said 48hrs 2 weeks ago.

Premature or pissing our pants, isn't it the same thing.

At this point, is Massimo Di Culo more reliable than Di Marzio?

I see a lot of people suggesting that Pogba will fly to Italy this weekend to meet with the rest of the squad, although Juventus is in London for tomorrow's game vs. West Ham.

This is also why various sources are reporting that he will travel to England, possibly to meet up with Juventus - not necessarily to sign for us.
