I still dont quite believe this is gonna happen. Would love it, but still cant see it.

Sounds too familiar, like we are doing the negotiating on Madrid's behalf. Find the fee, sort the agent fee split, get everyone happy, then Madrid come in, match everything word for word and Pogba chooses CL football over us.

Having followed this thread for weeks without posting, my own view is that however fantastic a player is and however much he'd improve us, we should only pursue him if we're his number 1 choice. If there's any doubt about that, I'd rather the club didn't continue the chase.
I am not sure we should be so specific because if you asked any player in the world what is their first choice club they are likely to say Madrid or Barcelona. I would just say in general that we should only sign players who express an interest in playing here. I can accept being second choice to Madrid in this scenario as Pogba knows Manchester, knows the club, this will not be like AdM.

For the millionth time, we don't need another 4 or 5 "decent" players to pad out the squad, we need a huge signing of a proper world class (or semi-world class) player to elevate the whole squad.

People seem to think signing about 8 players in a summer is a good idea to build a team with :wenger: We'll spend about 6 chaotic months trying to blend them together and just end up being too far behind anyway.

I agree, we need a 'World class' player to take us to the next level, to make the difference. We only have Ibra in that category, and he will only 'last' a year or 2.

Pogba is on holidays , he was playing in the Euros just 16 days ago. If he is back a couple of days and nothing is happening then I'd start to worry but at the moment we just have to be patient.

Exactly.... If the reports about him waiting for Madrid are true, then we should just forget about him and move to our next targets. We shouldn't sign a player who's heart lies with another club. Even if we sign him this summer, what guarantee do we have that he won't be forcing for a move to Madrid next summer. I am not sure about him staying with us for more than 2-3 years, especially him having Raiola as his agent. He is 23 now and he is not even near world class at the moment. The reason why we are paying a crazy crazy amount of money for him is because he has the potential to develop into a world class player. But even if he does fulfill his potentials and become a world class player, it will take at least 2-3 years for him to reach his prime. And by then, he and his agent will be all over us forcing a move to Real. So, what is the point of buying him for such an absurd amount when we know that the players heart lies with another club and most probably will leave us sooner or later?

And what if he fails to fulfill his potentials and never reaches the heights we are expecting? Then we over paid a huge sum of 80 millions on an average/above average player. Yes, i know that every signings has it's own risks and nobody knows about the future. But when you are spending an absurd sum of 120-140 million on a single player, you better make sure that he really wants to join you and he will stay with you for a very long time. In case of Pogba, if we are signing him for the reported amount, we should get his service for at least 5-6 years.

In short, after going through all these reports, i won't be disappointed if we don't get Pogba. I would rather prefer us to sign Kroos (70m) and Matuidi (20m) OR James (60m) and Matuidi (20m) plus another CB (30-40m) and we are good to go.
This is all based on Madrid propaganda bs. There is no evidence of this.

If he doesn't sign then he doesn't want to come, if he does then he does. He doesn't need to leave juve, they aren't pushing him out of the door.

I don't know how many times Kroos has come up, RM don't want to sell. I assume your figures are in Euro's and they certainly are not going to sell him for that and the major point for him is, does he want to come? I don't think we should sign Kroos if he doesn't want to come.

We don't need James and does he want to come? I don't want to sign james if he doesn't want to come.

Really doubt that is their plan.

Hugely risky move by Madrid given how cash rich we are. If Madrid are already holding the trump cards (preferred location, CL football) why would they allow United to try start a bidding war? They'll end up paying more for a player than they need to.

Except for the numerous articles and discussion over the last hour or so that Madrid have to either sell James or sell Kroos to Juve as part of a deal and Madrid are also "hindered" by the price we are negotiating for Pogba.

The day I see James at another club or Kroos in Turin, I'll worry.

I can't see Pogba being announced before Higuain is. Juve have been posturing for a while, so to appease their fans, they'd surely have to sign Higuain first.
I agree with you on this but I do think that for Higuain to signed and sealed Pogba must already be done and dusted. I can't see Juventus blowing 94m Euros or whatever it is if there is any chance Pogba could fall through in any way failed medical or breakdown in talks or whatever, they wouldn't take any chances with almost 100m Euros on the line would they ?

England have the Littlewoods Pools though..., and you can win money on those, and Pogba likes money.

It's on.

In all honesty, I'm getting a bit sick of AS and Marca trying to drum up a bidding war. It's clear Madrid is nowhere near this

Madrid is slap bang in the middle of Spain, pretty far away from any large body of water. England is a small island, and Manchester has a canal running through it. It's so on.

Or release the bombshell of Pogba leaving first, and then immediately calm the hysteria by announcing Higuain after. Not sure they want their last bit of business to be their star player leaving.
Yeah that could be a good shout. Either way I hope everything is sorted out before the community shield at the latest.

When it goes quiet, its normally because the lead has gone cold ....this saga is beginning to feel like Hazard or Vidal.

Today new contacts between #Raiola(back in Italy) and @juventusfc for the future of @paulpogba @SkySport the @ManUtd

A campaign by the great protagonist purchases, with the last shot called Gonzalo Higuain to strengthen the attack. Grand arrivals yes, but also a possible excellent assignment. Pogba is always close to Manchester United , even at this time there will be contacts between Mino Raiola and Juventus to try to close. On departure from the French footballer, Juventus will try to market a new name for the midfield.

The list is long and on top there is always the name of Nemanja Matic . The midfielder born in 1988 by the Chelsea would be the first choice in case of Pogba departure. Following, then, there are other names. From Axel Witsel of Zenit St. Petersburg, Long also followed by Napoli. The last idea, however, is Blaise Matuidi : the class of '87 PSG is one of the options being considered by Juventus for after Pogba."

Not always, we don't have to have a continuous leak of information for something to be on.
Now everyone is back, i'd expect more news to come out and things to move quicker

No mention of Real Madrid in Di Marzio's report. Shows how clueless Marca and AS really are.

The way Di Marzio was the first to call Raiola flying out to Maimi, and now saying he's back in Italy, he's probably got a tracker embedded somewhere in his fat arse.

Pogba doesn't have to be anywhere near Turin for this to happen. Plenty of signings happen while the player is elsewhere.

I would expect the player will be in Manchester for any official announcement though. We will bleed every marketing opportunity dry.

Van Persie was on international duty when the deal was agreed. He just took the medical 3 days later or something.

I still think this is very much on and that he will make his 2nd debut in the charity shield.

Sky Italia saying Pogba isn't due back to Turin until the beginning of August. Great another week of this nonsense.
That makes no difference either way. We knew his holiday was until the 6/7 th August. No reason he doesn't come back to Europe before then, have a medical, then go on holiday again in europe somewhere for another week. Plenty of players have done that.
