Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

Which is a part of the story not often mentioned. Essentially, Fergie refused to be dictated to by a kid and his agent. Which is exactly what you'd expect from Fergie. You could argue that we should have been smarter about Pogba's contract - leaving us with more leverage, if you will, but at the end of the day it was a matter of principle.

Pogba was a top talent, nobody will deny that. But top talents don't always turn into to top players. He was also someone who - clearly - had a high opinion of himself. He thought hanging around, applying himself, waiting for his chance - and so forth - was beneath him. Fair enough - that's his opinion, and he is talented, so perhaps he's right to make a move. That doesn't mean Alex Ferguson is wrong not to bend over for him - and his agent. An agent who by all accounts had been in contact with Juventus for a good while - and who had a vested interest in making the move happen (if not now, then next year - or, if Pogba took big enough steps, not Juve, but someone bigger and richer).

Again, we could have timed it better - making sure he had a longer contract. But Pogba's attitude and the presence of his agent (not least), wasn't something Fergie was prepared to "get over" in order to make sure he stayed on our books. I don't blame him for that at all. The muppets on here don't give a feck about principles, of course - they just see what they want to see, and completely ignore the part Raiola played (which was probably the biggest red flag for Fergie).
Good post.

yeah, rumors are that you cousin just got married, don't know If confirmed
:D

Doesn't mean much, but odds on skybet have fallen again, 1/5 to join united, 4/1 to stay juve, 6/1 madrid. Raiola is there, papers should be signed by now... hopefully just waiting for the right moment to announce it.

Pogba omission
Paul Pogba has been left off Juventus’ Twitter header ahead of the new season.

That may seem inconsequential, and indeed it may be, but isn’t odd that the club’s top player isn’t part of their Twitter account?

Old news, this was mentioned yesterday, I think?

A lot of journalists just trying to get the last dregs out of the story by mentioning Madrid interest. Like when PSG were going to make "a last ditch attempt" to get Mourinho a day or two before he was announced
Right. Like we were about to hijack Bale from Madrid.

Sorry but this means Nothing. Pogba have contract with adidas. And juventus sponsor is nike. So it's normal he won't be in cover.

Just like ronaldo never in madrid cover because he have contract with nike and madrid sponsor is adidas.
I am only posting what was in the M.E.N.

Juventus are sponsored by adidas

I think this guy was probably referring to me especially in relation to earlier posts I made about how United are still a globally bigger club then Juventus.

For some reason he fails to grasp the concept of our pull financially and globally as a brand and somehow think 3 average-mediocre seasons suddenly turn us into some mid level club or something.

I even specifically mentioned in one of my posts that despite our recent struggles on the pitch the last 3 years we're still 1 of the biggest team in the world which somehow seem to baffle him and think I'm fanboying .

We're in the top 3 richest club in the world, have insane commercial and marketing pull, one of the most recognizable football brand in the world as well as having the biggest fanbase in the world, but because we've had 3 sub par season, we're suddenly not one of the biggest club in the world? Who comes up with such logic?

It's not like we're the first to go through a bad patch of season as a big club or anything like that. This has happen to the like of Real, Barca, Bayern etc, however what they all had in common as well as us is the financial might to sort themselves out and get back to where they belong. We're not going to stay in this rot forever, we have the financial mean to fix this and pretty fast which is what we're currently attempting to do by spending large.

Nothing of this say we've become some mid tier level club, we are one of the biggest club in the world, it's pretty much a simple fact to understand.
Ok fair enough, I completly agree to be honest. 3 poor years doesn't define a club when the previous 20 were elite. I fully expect our fortunes to turn around in the near future and if we get Pogba that would be a massive step towards that. The future is bright for one of the elite clubs of football.

That's what LFC fans were saying about 20 years ago!
Almost word for word.

It deserves to be mentioned that Juventus were our competition when Pogba was at Le Havre, Fergie "stole" him at the last minute and Juventus stayed in contact with Pogba's entourage.

That's actually odd if he wasn't leaving. He's their biggest player by far. Will take it

I actually believe this is all agreed at this point. With the delay being an agreement between us and Juve, that allow Juve to sign their targets before a pogba announcement to avoid paying a premium for players at clubs who, if knew they had 100m in the bank would add an extra few million on to the asking price.

Thiago being omitted from the Barca promo (he was originally in it, then they cut him out of it) was the first sign that he was off

But he ended up somewhere else and not United

The Higuain deal just seal it for me. Juve have money, but not that kind of money. It is only possible if Pogba deal is already agreed. I think announcement will be coming soon

Exactly - the Juve factor was there from day one.

Now, I'm not painting Fergie as some kind of saint here, who took a stand against the money culture in football, or against shady agents, or whatever spin one can think of. If one wants to criticize United (and Fergie) for the Le Havre business - or claim that United (and Fergie) to a certain extent made their own bed with the whole Pogba situation, I'm perfectly fine with that.

Fergie looked after the interests of his football club - and in doing so he operated with certain principles. One key principle was to work with players who were settled. Another key principle was to never let anyone as much as suspect that he wasn't 100% in charge of the operation. Both these principles worked for him - spectacularly so - for decades. He was never going to bend over for Pogba/Raiola - and those who criticize him for the way he handled the situation tend to completely ignore several important aspects of the affair. To them it's a simple matter of Fergie not trusting youth, or even a matter of him not realizing Pogba's potential - when the reality is far more complicated.

Aren't they already paying a premium for Higuain?

theres no way juve go and spend 100 million on a thirty year old without the pogba deal being done i get it they wanted to save face please there fans which it looks like theyve done but i know who id rather have for that sort of cash!!

If ever Duncan Castles was to be trusted it is now.

He said we would sign Pogba this weekend. I have full faith In him to deliver.

Who would the Italian version of Michael Owen be? That's who Juventus should be after if they sell their best player.

I was walking my dog and it started raining on me. I had to come home and check this thread immediately since I thought it meant bad news. Please world, give me Pog :(

Aye you would have cheeky cnuts like Napoli trying to demand a Kings ransom for Higuain....

Is only us or Madrid also? That's the real question, he is surely will be sold but to whom I wonder! Yes we are favorites to land him but Raiola seems he is playing it hard and wants few extra millions.
Lol who else can spend £100m on 1 player? Stop worrying
