He was decent. Not amazing, not shit, just decent.

The fawning over his pass at the end is a little ridiculous, but that's what happens when it's Pogba.

I must admit, his long passes have been a lot better and consistent than I thought.

If a United player had a performance like him in the second half he would have been slated no end. But because it's pogba people say that he made a telling contribution despite looking like Bambi all half.

I haven't read through all this thread but I'm sure it's been mentioned.....as much as Pogba would improve our team, can people really see us paying out what it would take to bringing him back after letting him go?

I just can't see it happening.....that is if he even see's himself playing for Utd again.....but I think we will be looking elsewhere to strengthen our midfield and don't see this deal being one that we are chasing.

Just in his age group, both Verratti and Koke.

I don't see either of those two doing the things that Pogba does, but I like Veratti a lot, he'd suit the prem without doubt, though he'd be a yellow card machine! We need someone like him but how creative is he? I don't see that from him, koke never does much whenever I see him which admittedly isn't often, and there are too many that rate him for him to be no good, but I just don't see it personally.

Neither have the power and presence that Pogba does.

Yes, because they don't. Pogba is the ultimate highlight reel player, capable of absolute wow moments that few are. But he doesn't dominate or control games like Verratti does, he's absolutely class in that regard. Verratti is more of a deeper CM anyways while pogba would be the one whose role would be to move up and join the attack. Koke is similar in that regard, more of an all round CM than a flash attacking CM.

You obviously don't watch Veratti then.

Neither does Pogba do things that Verratti does. Pogba on song is brilliant which is why anyone who has watched him knows how good he is. But he lacks consistently controlling a game or producing those moments as frequently as he can or should. I would say, it really would depend on the setup of your team and then choose one over the other.

I think we need a ball carrier in MF, someone who can dribble and get us further up the pitch. It's why I want Pogba as opposed to someone who plays and dictates from deeper.

He has so many Haters on here just because he was let go
How do you come to that conclusion then? Because some don't think he's anywhere near world record bids, we're automatically haters because he was let go? Unless of course I've missed a few comments from posters who actually hate him?

I also don't see anyone disputing how talented he is.

I like him as a player, but the price quoted, only Messi is worth that or Neymar, I wouldn't even pay that for Ronaldo because of his age. I think he is worth 60 Million Pounds, and at a stretch 65 Million pounds and not a penny more.

I rate Pogba pretty highly and was gutted when he left but buying him back wouldn't be good use of the budget. Could possibly get two quality players for that same amount. Would actually put in a cheeky bid for Thiago and throw in Mata or Herrera into the mix for Bayern to consider. Would be cheaper and he's a flair player too

What is the quoted price ?
Is there any "official" one or just the paper's guess work

Nah. Personally, I don't see him as an ex-United player. It was disappointing to see him go when he was younger, but he was barely at United to care enough to be honest. I judge him as I do any other hyped up young player like Koke or Veratti.

I agree with sammyvine here, Pogba is being risidulously underrated now and that's probably due to someposters simple hating him now and we all know what are the reasons.

He is one of the best midlfieders in the world and by far the best in his age group. When I think about better midfield players than him, only names such as Iniesta easily comes to mind. Koke and Verrati AREN'T better than Pogba, no way. At this point it's arguable if the likes of Modric and co are better than him, an argument certainly can be made for either case.

This thread has typically turned into a giant caf hate fest where hating on the guy by underrating him feels normal and everyone just nodding.

No it can't. It would be a moronic argument to claim he is better Modric.

And from what I've seen of both, Veratti impresses me more than Pogba, even if Pogba is very impressive himself.

Sorry I'm not a "HATR" (super childish BTW) and it doesn't fit into this sweet little narrative you've built for everyone you disagree with.

I personally don't see any reason for disliking Pogba. He felt he was a special talent that deserved to be treated so - like Rooney, Fabregas, Ronaldo, Messi - were. And he's proven to be correct. Good on him.

Modric is clearly better than Pogba you are overrating Pogba there. Its also arguable who is the better player between him and Verratti.

Whilst some are clearly underrating him, uou are seriously overrating him.

He can go on to be the best, he has the talent but he isnt there yet. At the moment he is a player who can decide a game through a moment of brilliance, but doesnt really dominate games for 90 minhtes like a Modric

They both boss the mid and pogba doesnt .

His narrative suits a strange caf tendency. If you don't think that a player is the best, you hate him or if he isn't the best, he is shite.

Pogba will never be as good as Modric. Guy is a box to box midfielder, while Modric is every type of midfielder combined in one player. The touch, the pass, the dribble, the defensive part od the game, the inteligence. That's all Modric, while Pogba is only bigger and stronger. It's ridiculous to even compare that kid who plays for midfield heavy, defense heavy, one horse slow Italian league to Modric. You really need to have zero football knowledge to compare these two players at this point in time.

From what I've seen of Pogba I think it's fair to say that while he has done excellently in the Serie A that doesn't neccesarily mean he would instantly come in and set the world alight abroad. When you watch these highlight YouTube montage videos pretty much every time he gets the ball and everyone gives him about ten or so yards of space to shoot in. That wouldn't happen in the premier league, someone like Clattermole or McCarthy would come flying into him and I'm not sure how well he would cope with that to be honest.
He's a huge talent and in 4/5 years he may well be the best centre mid in the world. But as it goes I'd rate Modric, Iniesta, Kroos, Verrati and possibly Thiago over him in terms of proven midfield purchases.
Put it this way if we spend near 100 mil on Pogba this summer and ignore serious deficiencies the squad has then I won't be hopeful for next season.

Modrić is superb but it's ridiculous to say a guy as talented as Pogba can't reach his level. He's got 7 years on Modrić, plenty of time to add to his game.

Exactly this.

It would make more sense if he'd left and sat in Juve's reserves for 2 years doing nothing and then joined Marseille and had a very good season.

Pogba has proven since day one at Juve that we were holding him back and he was right to not want to wait.

If people constantly persist in comparing Pogba to midfielders who have got next to nothing to do with what he does, he is going to 'lose' every single time. Essentially, people are creating strawmen and then knocking them down and saying 'told you so' as if they've offered any objectivity at all.

Modric, Verratti, Koké and so on are not players that should be compared to Pogba, and the fact people either wilfully ignore that or don't ackowledge that highlights why this thread is all over the place and just looks like a free for all to pan Pogba for not being the same type of midfielder as the aforementioned. Pogba would play alongside, or most likely, further up the field with all of these players, not instead of them, and only Koké would have a prayer of affecting a game high up the pitch in anything like the manner Pogba is expected to do.

To further illustrate the point, Pogba has more goals in the 2015/2016 domestic season than the 3 players mentioned above, combined, that either makes them deficient in a key aspect, or, it means they do a different job on a football pitch to what Pogba is expected to do.

If you compare players to type, you get to see what they are, or are not, made of. Otherwise, you're just picking favourites in a skewed environment; pit Pogba against the correct type of midfielder and a fair assessment can be made.

He's not the best midfielder of his type, not by a distance, imo, as he has some way to go to round out his flaws and improve his consistency, but he is being written off so readily, you'd swear he was some run-of-the-mill player, which he clearly is not.

Posts like the one you quoted are usually in response to some posters calling pogba the best CM in the world. You're right in saying pogba has a very different role to modric but when people talk in general about CMs and don't go deeper by classifying them into categories, he will inevitably be compared to them.

He played kind of OK in two international games so now he is shite. This is how it works.

That said, I do believe Modric to be the best CM about at the moment.

He's definitely one of the best. Pogba is still too inconsistent to be at that level.

Pogba has the potential to be the best player in the world never mind the best CM.

Whether or not he fulfills that time can only tell.
