Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

Would like to get him before the China tour (if it's gonna happen) and I'm sure Jose would like that too but can't see this being done until the end of July if it happens.

I think people banging on about the potential fee are stuck in 2013 or even 2010.

Transfer fees have exploded in line with increased revenues in the industry.

Yes, at £100m we are paying a premium but not a ludicrous one.

Fair play to Woody and the Glazers for investing in the team in a way that a club of our size should.
This. I've been the first to criticise the owners when they've penny pinched, but now they've hired a world class manager and look set to move heaven and earth to back him in the market. Even if you think Pogba's overpriced you must appreciate the intent we now have.

Has a player ever been signed, for a launch stunt before?
Or is this one of those myths about player swaps (which almost never happens)?
could be a first time for it... I dunno stop killing my muppet thoughts with logic

Ermmmm Yes, read the bold part and think about it why on earth should we pay 100 million on a player that is nowhere near the finished article, then he will immediately want to leave when he's in his prime for less than we paid.

We got more than we paid for Ronaldo when he left in his prime. There really are not many players we have sold in their prime, at least not star players to say we will sell him for less.

Not a complete muppet thought. They could be holding off the launch until he's signed. Seems quite late now that it hasn't been launched yet.

Where will Rooney or Mata play in this formation? Mou already said He won't play Rooney in midfield
Mata won't start. Also, I don't think Rooney's position in the XI is sure.
When Mourinho plays with a 10, he likes the to midfielders to be withdrawn. We will not pay 120m for pogba and us him like that. Very confident that won't happen. All this is if we sign him of course.

If he's in his prime why would he go for less than we paid?

Beckham. Madrid were on pre season in Asia and timed the official announcement with Beckham jetting off to join them. He entered the plane as a United player and got off in Asia as a Madrid player.
It was chaos out there when he landed.

He wouldn't be coming on the tour anyway even if we sign him tomorrow, like the rest of the players who got to the latter stages of the tournament

Why would he cost less than what we paid for him if he were to leave? If he performs well and with the inflation of transfer fees set to continue, I can't see us making a loss (as long as we ensure Pogba has atleast 2 years left on his contract).

Why would United sell him for cheaper then we paid for him? Bear in mind - if we get back to the top, why would we sell him at all? That's the plan. Not to stand still but to get back to the top. United aren't thinking - oh we'll sell him

I can guarantee there won't be a player go for over £100 million for years unless a major star moves (Messi, Neymar etc)

He will cost less because Real Madrid won't pay more than 100 million for a player that's not actually worth anywhere near 100 million in the first place. It's like buying a brand new car as soon as you drive it off the forecourt you've lost money It'll be similar to Di Maria scenario but on a bigger scale.

If we spend that on a player I want him to be here for his career and not fecking off when he matures into his prime. We won't be able to keep pogba if he isn't happy so we will be forced to sell

Buying pogba also won't immediately make us amazing again especially since he's so inconsistent currently. I dont care with spending a lot of money I just think it could be better spent.

Becks was in a totally different league to any footballer ever in that regard. I remember him spending his time off in the summer going on a publicity tour of the Far East promoting himself. I think he was still at United then. It was absolute chaos when he landed then too.

Edit: just looked it up. The tour you are thinking off was actually his own promotional tour to Japan. He took Victoria. It started just after he signed for Madrid but it wasn't with the club.

i did wonder how the heck we haven't launched it yet. our preseason starts tomorrow

He wouldn't go anyway. It's only 5 days since he finished up at the Euros. If he came he wouldn't be seen until the Gala game or possibly even Wayne's testimonial.

I go from feeling confidant to doubtful and back again. My latest doubt about this is what if Juventus just flat out refuse to sell? I still feel we will get him but any threat to Pogba coming back makes me goosey.

Actually the Beckham transfer was announced in June when David was on the way to China for a personal trip. Real Madrid did not leave on their Asian tour until the end of July. He had his medical and was presented to the press around July 1st or 2nd, including getting his #23 Jersey presented to him.

While it was a wild time, his announcement was not timed to coincided with the tour. Not sure if the announced a new kit when they arrived in China though.

It was Japan. A weird self promotion tour. The fans were crying and acting hysterical when he landed.

Maybe it was ahead of the squad then!
It was intentional though. Madrid wanted to raise their profile in Asia and sent Beckham over to maximise the exposure.
I remeber it because of the pats on the back they gave themselves when it was a success.

The sun not confused he isn't at Chelsea after they broke he had sigend for them last season? Or are they not confused we haven't sealed it yet after saying it was wrapped up weeks ago? Or are they just flinging shit at the wall praying it will eventually stick?

English press bugs the F... out of me. It's like the National Enquirer here in the states instead of The New York Times, or the Huffington Post, or the Los Angeles Times.

Who the heck are the Sun? Does their exclusive hold any weight?

Also, I hope it's true so we can stop talking about 100 million. 105 million makes more sense. :)

No they are terrible. The £105m is probably to try give it more credibility rather than a round number.

The quieter things have gotten on this the more confident I've become. Woodward has been getting business done this week, I'd be surprised if this didn't happen now.

There are actually real humans on Twitter trying to argue £100m on Pogba is better than £30m on Kante. Section them now.
