Paul Pogba / turned down United offer of 300k as “nothing”

I expect to do his job properly, never seen a player so highly rated lose the ball so much in dangerous positions. It's happened for 5 seasons, he's a complete liability and he did it again for France at the euro's.

The cult of Pogba is very odd.

A strong possibility that they skew very young and influenced by their peers and the whole ‘image’ thing.

Talent and loads of money aside, not sure why he would want to go to Paris at 28 and still near his peak. Even Varane who has won it all didn't want to go to play in Ligue one

You've answered this in your second paragraph. He'll get paid loads, still get to play CL each season, still be able to splash himself over social media and have photos of him holding trophies in the air all while playing in an easier league. He'll be able to shine without the same scrutiny. He won't be needed to put in the effort of digging in when times get tough because digging in when things get tough is not his game. His game is looking good on the effort of those around him.

I also get the feeling that he really never felt the warmth and love from the United fans, and probably was always made the first scapegoat whenever United loses a match.
The reception he got when he first came under the fanfare of #POGBACK was very warm and positive. #POGBACK was the usual Pogba style glitterball affair, selling him as the saviour. The warmth and love faded because it became clear he wasn't committed to the cause. My feeling is that you can, and should still play, or attempt to play like a £90m player regardless of teammates. From the outside his attitude looks poor and that's before we've even mentioned his mouthpiece Riaola. And Riaola is his mouthpiece regardless of what the Pogba fanboys think.

Massive disappointment. Let him go where he can get paid the most and look the best for the least effort, that will suit him. I'm not his biggest fan but ...

He is expected to be Kante, Xavi and Yaya Toure all in one.

I fully agree with you. It's unreal how much micro-analysis goes into Pogba.

Victim of his physical appearance.

The cult of Pogba is very odd.

Where he lost the ball vs Switzerland was not a dangerous position. A 'complete liability' that was Frances best player.

All my years of watching football, I have never seen a midfielder as micro-analysed as Pogba.

That's because there had never been a top midfielder who is so good in certain aspects of his game and so shit on other aspects of his game. As a creative midfielder Pogba can be immense. He's tall, he's fast, he's blessed with great technique and a great passing range. Talent/physical wise he can shit on every top midfielder of the past 20 years. Then there's the other part of Pogba's game ie his decision making, his workrate, his defensive abilities and the whole circus around the guy which kind of restrains him. These sort of flawed diamonds tend to attract more attention then the typical consistent and boring sort of player. Best was more popular to Charlton and Beckham is more popular to Scholes

Pogba for €60m is a bargain for PSG. Milk them. €70m-€80m would be decent business for both parties.
It's really not. He's in his final year and hasn't shown a seasons worth of consistent form in years

70m euros is good money.
I hope PSG formalise their interest. Would be good for us and a player I firmly believe has been unfairly treated. We need the money to reconstruct our midfield. PSG would be signing a hell of a player.
I wish I’d have been as treated as badly as him in that case. One of the highest paid players at the club, turns up when he feels like it, plays wherever he wants, moans about having to be more disciplined for United as opposed to having more freedom at France. Talks about leaving on a regular basis and the club still keep selecting him to play.

I find it hard to justify Pogba being a victim here under and circumstances.

Confident foreign black lad, wears bling jewellery, “lazy” body language on the pitch, loud mouth agent. He was always going to be micro-analysed in this country sadly. There is a section of people who will never get over their idea of what a footballer should be, “good honest lad, passion, blood sweat & tears” and all that.

I’ve said this for a while and it’s constantly derided despite being true, Pogba is one of our most consistent players. He has less bad games than all of his midfield counterparts, including Bruno. He doesn’t have the “G/A” to cover him when he isn’t great in a game.

McTominay can drop a 3/10 every other game, radio silence. Pogba misplaces one pass, all hell breaks loose.

That’s part and parcel of playing for United, earning big money and coming in for a big fee. The reason he’s micro analysed is because he’s so inconsistent but everyone knows he has an ability he fails to channel on most days.
It also doesn’t help that he likes (or his agent likes) the media attention and there’s always a discussion around him going for big money or making more money when he hasn’t really done anything to justify a £100m move and £400k+ a week.

Lukaku got the same treatment when he kept saying he was world class despite not being able to do it against the best. If you’re going to keep putting yourself in the firing line you need to perform on a regular basis to justify the claims.

Plays wherever he wants? What?

I'm sure his desire when he came to United was to play in a 2 man midfield with Fellaini.

More nonsense spouted in these last few pages which is very predictable when discussing Pogba.

What?

He signed for United knowing full well who the playing staff were. He didn’t have to sign.

It’s common knowledge he signed because he was impressed with United’s social media impressions. So he didn’t really care all that much about who he would be playing alongside did he?

To be fair to Pogba, he was probably promised a lot of good things when he came back here. The club had just hired Mourinho, signed Zlatan and the team atmosphere was at an all time high after van Gaal's management. Somehow it just didn’t work out here for him. We as fans too were expecting a lot of good things to happen after that summer

He came for United's social media presence now

Like I said, more nonsense.

If we confirm Sancho and get Varane, that will be top club ambitions. Our signings last summer weren’t shabby either.

The facts are:

1)he is a great player
2)he has been inconsistent for us
3)70 million is a fair price
4)he can be replaced, and there are good options out there
5)his agent is a fecking nuisance

Whether he stays, or leaves but is adequately replaced, I'm fine with it.
What tips the scale, is point 5, nobody will miss the Raiola drama.

Would you make that same argument for Kane (if he moves)? Or van persie? Or virtually any top player that moves clubs?
He’s won four Serie A titles plus a World Cup amongst others. If anything his mistake was to join Man Utd, not to leave them.

Couldn't care less about Kane. Van Persie, I love the guy, he won us the league, but no I wouldn't call him a club legend for one great season.

Seeing as he walked from Juve for more money, I doubt they call him a legend, but I could be wrong.

I don't think United fans hate him. He plays for United so why would our own hate him? I am a big fan of Pogba but i can see and understand some sections of the fans haven't really warm to him. It's just his game and the way he plays, or perhaps it's even something to do with his agent. Some older fans also prefer the blood and thunder of the likes of Ince and Keane instead of a showpony who has great technical attributes but loses the ball a lot

Just use analogies. The people who still don’t get that he’s like a high-maintenance luxury item bought by a dumbass only interested in the status symbol will never get it.

He’s like a multimillion pound house with a gym and a pool and all the trappings except none of the toilets flush and have a propensity to spew sewage all over without warning.

He’s like a ‘59 Gibson Les Paul that has an undiagnosable wiring issue where it’ll randomly lose signal mid-concert.

I don’t like him as a person or a player but it’s a depressing thought to see him leave before the likes of Lingard and Andreas. Who, if we did manage to sell, would probably raise the same amount of cash (combined) as what we’d get for Pogba.
Imagine opening your first post on redcafe with that, good grief

I don't think this is true, he was a club record signing. Bale for example at RM probably got it much worse, Hazard as well. He also has obvious flaws that regularly get highlighted.

What I would say, I don't think I've seen the irrational dislike from people for a player like him before. The blame on him in the Swiss game was just plain odd.

Im not saying you should care about RVP or Kane, more that you should understand that when and if a player makes a career choice to move, they’ll almost always prioritise winning things over simply being loyal. Obvious exceptions like Le Tissier but I think in general players would pick trophies over legend status any day of the week.

There's getting micro-analysed, and then there's the treatment Paul Pogba gets. I don't know how even his biggest detractors would disagree with that. It is always polemic with Paulie.

He goes for nothing in January. No ones getting milked
PSG are struggling to convince Neymar and Mbappe to stick around their farmers league after paying close to half a billion between the two of them. If you think they can compete for Pogba in the open market against the likes of juventus and Madrid, you have another thing coming.

Their only hope is to bolster the squad now, win a champions league and pray Mbappe signs an extension to keep their bootleg investment afloat. They’ll pay a good price as long as you’re not the one negotiating against them.

Pogba may have had key moments last season. But I just can't ever forget how he and his agent costed us the match against RB Leipzig with their distracting antics before the match. We crashed out of Champions League and it lead to the ugly Europa League final we all know.

They are the reason AWB kept sleeping on the back post which happened plenty before this game and after or the weird tactics employed by Ole, their abilities really know no bounds.

If reports(big if) are true that we about about to receive a 60M from PSG then you can be assured that they have gotten indications off Pogba that he is interested in signing for them , that contact could be either directly or most likely indirectly as I don't think we have given anyone permission to talk to him yet.

If we got approx 70M or so for him we would be mad not to accept it , as it is only a few months now from January where he can do a pre contract with them anyway and no doubt will start picking up niggling 'injuries' again and we are not likely to see much of him after that as his head will be elsewhere.

Letting him go for zero money next season makes no since if there are decent offers now.

But the important thing is for the club to confront him and get it sorted now and not waste the rest of the transfer window on this , either he is signing a new contract or he is off. Either way do it quickly so we can plan properly for the season coming up.
