Coloured has been a frowned upon word at least in Britain for about twenty years if not longer.
Yeah I thought it was pretty obvious in the UK by now. Not sure about anywhere else thoughColoured has been a frowned upon word at least in Britain for about twenty years if not longer.
Personally I don't think so, but I don't know as there's so much FUD. From the initial story it had a whiff of fishiness to it. Either way, posters need to stop having sleepless nights and wearing down their teeth over it...Are we sure he’s leaving? There was a tweet that Varane spoken to Pogba at length prior to coming to us. I don’t know how theses things work but if Paul’s leaving, surely he would likely have told him to join him at PSG instead?
Why would he, Maybe Varane actaully wants to play for Utd and was getting info from Pogba who is currently a French Utd player. Are we sure he’s leaving? I see. Didn't know there was difference between those phrases so thanks for clarification. In gets lost in translation so you need to understand the context I guess.I think referring to him as a person of colour would be fine, particularly in the US, but 'coloured' is rather different. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-30999175.
What is the word to use in such situation? I always thought "colored" is a general and neutral word.
Some have missed the point of the racism arguement it seems. The poster did not (as far as I can tell) claim that everyone criticising Pogba has done it due to racism. They brought up the likelihood (or possibility for the sensitive souls) that some of it, a non negligible amount, would be down to racism and stereotypes.
I argued that that's obvious* (to anyone that's been paying attention), most of you accepted that fact, but we are still here, and posters are still confusing the issue. Hopefully it's clear now...

- There are numerous examples of the racism aimed at our players, racism in football, racism in society...
- Redcafe discourages overt racism (and long may that continue) so you won't see as much as you do in other places.
- Racism is not always obvious (it usually isn't tbf), sometimes it's micro-aggressions. Sometimes it's stereotyping, or prejudice.
- Why is there always pushback? Why do people feel personally accused?
- I feel like I'm stating the obvious...
- I'm done...
You know nothing about me and haven't even bothered to read my posts in their entirety and in context. I know this based on the content of your post, and how wide of the mark you are. Do me a favour and feck off.... some of you are so weird.outside of real racist shit that we see that is clearly in your face with the social media stuff and the monkey chants.....this turning everything in a racist tone or saying there is some sort of underlying tone of racism is what continues to push that narrative to the forefront thus making it even more open for criticism and people so quick honestly to brushing it aside.
the fact that someone is criticized and they are black or a person of color and immediately you cry wolf that someone is racist is a farce and that honestly will just feed into the negativity. No one says a thing when we slay Lindelof for being a muppet and brain dead or Matic for being slow as a turtle or Shaw for looking like a fat leprechaun but god forbid you make that claim about someone of color and all hell breaks loose.
you can live by a double standard or use race as a method of erasing criticism in an athletic environment when judging how they perform on a pitch, court...etc
But you can’t go the opposite way and say that subtle racism just doesn’t exist surely?outside of real racist shit that we see that is clearly in your face with the social media stuff and the monkey chants.....this turning everything in a racist tone or saying there is some sort of underlying tone of racism is what continues to push that narrative to the forefront thus making it even more open for criticism and people so quick honestly to brushing it aside.

We must decide this summer! Sell or give him new contract. We can't let a player and an agent to dictate this!
i never said anything about you personally or your individual views......You know nothing about me and haven't even bothered to read my posts in their entirety and in context. I’ve not seen anyone say a black player can’t be criticised. However, when a black player is consistently described as unprofessional, a bad influence etc despite all real evidence pointing to the opposite, I see no issue with asking the question as to whether there is something deeper. To straight up just disregard the possibility seems daft to me.

I don't know why we are being reactive and not finding a club for him to jettison him and his agent together.
Except he isn't. He has 2 good months out of the year and this is our last chance to get some money for him.Because he's a sensationally talented footballer who everyone at the club seems to like and we want him to stay.
If no one pays up to 50 million then I think the club would rather he stay for the year and they take their chances on convincing him to stay. If he doesn't, then we get to keep him for a year which gives us a much better chance of us reaching our goals for the season.
Except he isn't. He has 2 good months out of the year and this is our last chance to get some money for him.
Because unlike fans, the club and manager don't actually want to get rid of him yet as we're on the way to fielding our strongest squad in a decade.I don't know why we are being reactive and not finding a club for him to jettison him and his agent together.
Yet you are criticising the club for not finding a buyer? Is he rubbish or not?Except he isn't. He has 2 good months out of the year and this is our last chance to get some money for him.

It's why it seems that they're prepared to gamble on potentially losing him for free again rather then sell on the cheap just because.
He's sensationally talented 2 games in every 10.I'm confused. Are you saying he's not a sensationally talented footballer?
He's sensationally talented 2 games in every 10.
Which is a big part of the problem.
From the reports it doesn't sound like the club would be all that disappointed if that ends up being the case.Or that there is no buyer who will pay his wages and pay a transfer fee.
It happens all the time!! You can only sell if there's a buyer!!!
Players in the last year of their contract;
Mbappe
Goretzka
Pedri
Pogba
Kessie
Camavinga
Dybala
Dembele
Ronaldo
Belotti
Stones
Or that there is no buyer who will pay his wages and pay a transfer fee.

No worries! Yeah, it must be a proper minefield for people that don't have English as a first language. Confusing enough for those of us that do tbf.I see. Didn't know there was difference between those phrases so thanks for clarification. In gets lost in translation so you need to understand the context I guess.
Only in South Africa, as far as I know, where they are a designated race group for mixed race people. What is the word to use in such situation? I always thought "colored" is a general and neutral word.
Depends on the place I suppose. As in South Africa, my official classification of race is: Coloured.I imagine this is a 'lost in translation' moment but just fyi, this is not the right word to use. Not being picky but just letting you know for future reference.
Seriously? Wow, I did not know that. To us in the UK that's pretty staggeringDepends on the place I suppose. As in South African, my official classification of race is: Coloured.
Well said, Pogba and Bruno both as 8’s seems like a disaster to me.I hope we sell Pogba this summer. I think Ole wants him gone too. Ole wants a high pressing energetic midfield. Neither Klopp Pep Tuchel would want him in their team . He simply doesn't work with a number 10 in the team. He can work but you also need a highly energetic number 8 midfielder and a a cdm passer . A few years ago when we played him with Herrera and Matic was the closest to it ever working at united . But we have Bruno who isn't going anywhere so Id say get rid. Kante and De Jong would be my dream midfield pairing with Bruno . The problem we have is there doesn't seem to be the dearth in quality of midfielders out there. Neves and Saul would be an improvement on McFred but is it good enough to bring us back to the very top . I dont think so. People seem to think if we sign a cdm that we can simply play pogba and Bruno as the number 8s. It will not work . Theres a better chance it would work with Bruno and VDB
