Weird comparison a couple pages back between Modric and Pogba. The Pog is definitely more comparable to Lampard or prime Yaya Toure.

Two genuinely world class (and young) players!

Have seen it on DDG's facebook page yesterday - still can't believe both of them are going to wear our colours for many years to come.
One of those moments I wish we would have those "f** emojis" from Juventuz :lol:

Only issue there is his contract runs until he's 28? no fecking way i want him leaving at that age. If Pogba's prove's his class, Edd needs to be on the phone every single summer saying "we're adding another 25k p/w onto his salary to extend, have him pop in after training to sign"

None of this 2 years left bollocks where Real start sniffing and coming in with the 50m or nothing next year offers.

Same with De Gea too, every year, dont give a feck if its not frugal. EXTEND EXTEND EXTEND. If Real/Barca want em they should have to sell off their fecking stadiums to buy em.

This.

Plus, it all depends on us imo. If the club continues investing in the best players and If we start winning trophies then I think Pogba is here for the long term.

 our two best players in one pic.

What the gurners who moan about "value" will never understand is that signing players of the caliber of Pogba not only boosts the team on the field but makes it much easier to keep players like like De Gea despite interest from abroad and makes the club much more attractive to potential transfer targets.

I spent the last 4 years moaning about the one that got away and what Fergie's decisions- I still can't believe that we signed Paul fecking Pogba. After years of speculation I can't believe we actually got this deal done!

- Reports that Madrid can't afford Pogba.
- United blow Madrid out of the water and break the world transfer record for Pogba, who signs a 6-year deal.
- Reports that Pogba chose United over Madrid by almost every major media in the UK.

Meanwhile, on redcafe: OMG Pogba's leaving for Madrid in a few years time!!!!

Logic.

Its too early to write Real off but from what happened in the past 4 transfer windows (ie 2 years) I am starting to doubt if Real have the necessary funds to be a threat for us in the year to come.

Except I didn't really say that at all. I just said if Pogba doesn't sign a new contract we'll have to sell. The rumours going around have always been that he eventually wants to end up at Real or Barca, the 5 year contract he's on now will not stop him from going there if he wants to. Seems pretty logical, no?
It's 5+1 by then he will be 29. If he still wants to leave at 29'so be it. We'll be looking for a replacement by then anyway.
Players that are dependent on their high energy game have to adapt around then any way.

What I dont understand of this Madrid envy is why we dont even let ourselves enjoy Pogba before starting the negativity about him wanting Real?

Everything about this deal should be something to be happy about.. But here this had been quite something different.

In the start rumors about Pogback started..
Caf: he will go to Real.

All the outlets pointed towards United.
Caf: Real will swoop in.

All the outlets said one thing that United and Juve had an agreement..
Caf: but its Real and Zidane.

Pogba signs a 5 year contract with and optional year.. And we should be loving the shit out of this.
Caf: when will he leave for Spain.

The Reality is that Pogba will be 29 when this deal expires and no team in the world could pay what we will want for the player. The only thing could be us failing to reach any of our goals and him wanting to leave for some success, the same thing could be said for ddg..

So lets enjoy this and look forward to not having LVG here and a team with a real chance of success..
They wont listen.

After every bad game by him: Hus mind is in Madrid

After every good game: Madrid are sure to be coming for him now.

Same thing with Martial. It gets on my tits. I swear some fans think Real madrid is under their bed.

This same happened in the Martial thread too last season at various moments. Caf's inferiority complex towards Madrid is something else.

I know this has happened to other player like Martial and others but this is something else..
We paid top dollar for him, signed him up for more than 5 years and are clearly building a future at Old Trafford.
But still this mantra rings in here, just give us that really enjoy whats going on a break from this. We have had enough of boring seasons lately.
So to all of you Real complex guys out there enjoy this season and give the poor kid a chance to show us what he can do before shipping out to Real.

The Spanish press were the ones desperately trying to make Madrid relevant in this whole Pogba transfer saga.

Honestly, i think they tried to persuade him not to move to us, but failed. But Marca et al were trying to frame it as though it's just a case of whether Perez wants to lift his last finger and our Pogba deal will collapse. With the news that has come out since, this was clearly not the case.

What happens years down the road, nobody knows. But to live your football lives in endless fear of a bogeyman is sad because you can't even celebrate your own success while it's happening. Enjoy it guys please. Surely you don't want to wait till Pogba gets his testimonial match before you start believing that maybe, just maybe, Madrid isn't his dream club after all.

Really hope we play 4-3-3 and let him do whatever he wants, rather than a 2 man and hold him back. So excited to have him back, having another genuine class player on the pitch has been a rarity for us the last 5-6 years.

I think Jose Mourinho has got his focus again, and if we have a very good season, challenge for the PL, get far in europe, have a run in the cup competitions, jose has the foundations to really build a top side, he already has DDG, smalling, shaw, pogba, lingard, Mkha, martial and rashford has players who could be here 3 4 even 5 years. That Pogba signing could really open the gates to add more to the team, like adding another RB and a CB, add 2 more CM players to replace carrick, fellaini, herrera and morgan, pogba is going to be rooney's replacement. So next season if we really click fast, 2017/18 season I feel we will get the Jose Mourinho team, this season is about reprogramming the squad, next season Jose really will have his team in place, has our spine will be rebuilt come 2017/18 season

I was really pleased with Andy Cole Q&A on United website. Especially, when he said that we are not buying for the sake of adding numbers to our team anymore. I think 1-2 top talent per transfer window is enough.

I agree. However the contract does not cover his entire career. At 29 Pogba can aim for one final big pay cheque and if United cant seal a deal with him till that point they probably sell him much earlier then that

Jose said he wanted 4 specialist players, and he has got that. I think next season he will be after possibly 3 specialist players, I feel a RB and and 2 CM players will be the next stage for where Jose wants united at next season. Valencia, carrick, herrera, morgan, fellaini, rooney won't be at that level next season, especially jose wants to challenge for the PL and CL, so its quiet clear a RB and 2 CM players are crucial for the next phase of the Jose Mourinho jigsaw puzzle next season. I am excited on our attacking players this season, but I don't think it will be enough to win the PL. That is where I feel we got a top manager like Jose, he strikes when its hot, and he is not stupid his jigsaw puzzle is incomplete this season

Will be a RB, CM/CDM and someone to be the focal point of our attack, ala Griezmann imo.

I think we'll go after a new RB, Carrick replacement and a new #10 next summer.

I still expect us to sign at least one more player this month, probably a centre-back.

Anyways, back on Pogba - can't fecking wait to see him playing for us.

I think he'll wait and see how Darmian develops this season under new management. He was very, very good for us in the early stages last season until LVG neutered him.

Agree on a new 6 to replace Carrick and Griezmann though. They will be at the top of his list IMO

It wont properly hit me that we've signed him until we see him stroll on the pitch in our top again

This season has all the makings of being absolutely magical.

Good Lord, this! It just all feels so surreal, lol. At least he signed before the start of the season and not deadline day so that we wouldn't have had to wait two further weeks because of the crappy international break!

1.92m puts Dave at 6'3, and taller than Pogba!
It's not true though. Look at the line ups before a game, he's clearly smaller than Smalling/Fellaini and not much bigger than of our 6 foot players. Not that it's really a problem anyway, he can reach the goal fine so who cares.

I dunno, he's not that much shoter then Smalling (maybe an inch) who is 6"4... and is much taller then Bastian, who isn't that short himself.

DiMaria wasn't wanted anymore by Van Gaal, that much should have been clear. He was benched for half the season and wasn't much in LVG plans unless used as a sub. How is that losing a wanted player in anyways.

Also like someone mentioned we could have just say NO if we wanted him to stay. He was still contractually tied to us and there is no such thing as boycotting your club duty when under contract. We didn't even resist much to his transfer fee to release him. Had we wanted him to stay we would have asked a lot more money and forced PSG to splash over the odd but that wasn't the case, we actually took a hit to get rid. It was mutually agreement, Van Gaal wasn't playing him and he was on huge wages, so why bother keeping him then.

Of course he was wanted by van Gaal. van Gaal said Di Maria had even confirmed that he was returning with Rojo to join the team in the USA.

Van Gaal said Di Maria was due to report for United duty on Saturday along with Argentina teammate Marcos Rojo and Mexican striker Javier Hernandez.

All three players were excused the opening phase of United’s four-match tour owing to international commitments and injury.

Asked when Di Maria, Rojo and Hernandez were expected in California, van Gaal said: “I expect them tomorrow because we have communicated on that and they have responded to that.”

Van Gaal waved off questions about Di Maria’s possible move.

Di Maria started well for United but after his house was broken into with his wife and kids in the house at the time of the break-in, he changed and was really poor from then on in so when Ashley Young rose to the occasion an took the spot from him, it was his own fault. But I believe he still had a spot in the team with four years still remaining on his contract.

Yes, a fee was eventually agreed to with PSG so it looks like it was a mutual agreement, but the fact that Di Maria never returned from internationals like he was supposed to, left van Gaal with no other option. The rumours were that Di Maria wanted a PSG move and it looked like he forced the move. Did we have to sell, most probably not but it wouldn't help having a player who didn't want to be at United anymore.

United is a business. Would it have been better to have a player who didn't want to play for the club anymore on it's books? Or would you rather cut your loss and move on.

The business cut it's loss and moved on. But don't confuse the matter, Di Maria wanted out!

--------------------------

Anyway, Back to Pogba. I expect Pogba to play 15-20 minutes in the game just to give the supporters a bit of a lift.

To be honest it was Mostly @ehsanul that was fear mongering with Madrid. The top posters of the pogba thread were all convinced he was coming from early on.

I understand the anxiety over Madrid. It's a classic case of "once bitten, twice shy".

Real took Ronaldo, who was quite easily the best player we had in decades, that too at a time when we were in a position to pay him whatever he wanted. And all this happened when we had the best club manager probably in the history of football. The whole thing was played over again with De Gea who at that time was our best player and the only bright spot in the post SAF years. Thankfully, it all came to nothing courtesy a bit of stinginess from Real and supposed technical failure of the fax machine. In essence, it is only but natural that fans have a fear of Real coming into Manchester like a pied piper and taking away our best players who suddenly "always wanted to play for them".

It is going to take 2/3 more deals and a few contract extensions to reassure the fans. The way Woodward and the Glazers are going, it feels like Real will only get our best players over their dead bodies.

Ronaldo also happens at a time we were under serious financial strain. For example; if Martial became the best player in the world, I don't think Madrid would be able to afford him unless he ran down his contract.

Not to forget Beckham and Ruud, both of which Fergie claimed their heads were turned by Real as season or 2 before they were sold.

Still find it odd that Real weren't as public in their approach for Pogba (the odd Zidane comment) but nothing to the extent of their other galactico transfers. Perhaps his 'poor' euros worked out well for us.

Either way I don't mind one bit!

I wonder by year end if Pogba delivers the goods how many shirts he will sell. My three nephews are already dabbing all around the living room and pestering me for Pogba shirts. Feckers gonna rinse me. I suspect most United supporting kids aged 3-15 will be the same.
