Yep, talk when he came back was that he was looking at extending his contract and even back after Bruno signed it was because it looked like we were strengthening the team and showing some ambition. Hes not going to extend his contract when we show no ambition, why would he?
Anyway, I don't think its a massive problem if he leaves. Think Van de Beek can replace him in the XI next summer, we just need to build off of that. With his age, injuries and price tag he comes with, its probably smarter to move him on rather than extend him, only if we reinvest properly. This summer for example, selling him for Van de Beek and Thiago, and then additional funding for Sancho as a summer would've been brilliant. Obviously Covid stopped any teams from going for him, but at 27/28 nobody will be spending big and teams wont want to lock themselves in a long contract with someone who might be declining before long like Hazard and Griezmann.
Its actually probably the biggest season in his career. Needs to show he can handle a season, that he can be a top player and not be outshined by Bruno again, not only for his own interests if he wants other big teams in for him, but if he wants United to give him a good deal as well. Depending on how the season goes he can lose all the negotiating power that he had, and thats purely down to his own fitness and performances.
