We defend zonally in situations when the ball is played over the top. Midfielders generally don't track attackers who run in behind the defence. You can see once Lookman runs to the last line Pogba let's him go because he becomes Bailly's man. Bailly has the choice to engage him or play the offside.

Find another stick to beat him with.

stop talking shite eh, pogba never once looks in the direction to see where Bailey is, he never once becomes his man. just the usual people making excuses for pogba when it happens every time with him playing CM

Criminal of BT Sport to leave it out of the replays.
There is something to say to this about they broadcast games tbh. In the City vs Villa game, Grealish had an outstanding first touch and like this one, it didn't get a replay.
The Pogba one is worse as it played a huge role in the goal but it's like they don't appreciate enough this particular aspect of football.
However they do love those endless replays of tackles and headers

Little logic in keeping Pogba when he wants to leave. His mouthpiece will be out in full force come summer. Besides, this is hardly the level of consistency we desire, he needs to be doing what KDB does at city nearly every game. I don't think that will ever be Pogba's level.
So what you're saying is that unless he matches KDB level of consistency he shouldn't be here. Well I think we must buy KDB then because I don't think there's anyone who can match that standard.

Watch the video replay. He clearly gestured to Bailly before Lookman makes the run in. Bailly sees the run and tries to play the offside trap which failed.

Fabulous goal by Pogba!

I'm torn now on whether or not he should stay, despite his defensive shortcomings, he's such a raw talent.

I'm not quite sure why Woodward bought Van De Beek...it's almost a declaration of saying Pogba will be going, and Oli wanted Grealish.

so can you answer the question ? did the offside work yes or no ? and did the man who Pogba let run go on to score ? again its a simple yes or no ?
It's a simple yes or no question if you're either purposely being obtuse or football is too complex for your brain to process. He's not supposed to chase beyond the back line if they're trying to set an offside trap. Had he followed his runner and been the one to break the line you'd be crying about that instead.

ave watched it, he doesnt have a clue where bailey is because he never once looks

like i thought couldn't answer a simple question because you have made a right cnut of it, just like he did with the goal, least he made amends where you just look like a clown

And on the same page we have someone insisting he track back beyond the CB's. Insane expectations on the guy.

Appears to well and truly have his mojo back. I've always said when he wants to play he's world class and for me first player on the team sheet when he does. I like the idea of him having freedom on the pitch too. In his last few games he's played on the right-left & middle.

Long may it continue, and with a bit of luck? ...... Hold that, with a lot of luck he gets rid of that wanker of a agent. Pretty sure we'd see more consistency off him if it happens. Strange thing to say I know. However, that cnut some how seems to influence players under his care.

From day 1 expectations are, he should win tackles like Kante, create like Ozil, control the game like Pirlo.

People really struggle with expectations and also what to expect from player. Few create their own version of the player in some dreamland and set very wrong expectations.

Wish people rated players like Kante on goals and assists and KdB on how he tracks back runners and tackling.

I had harsh words for Pogba for not doing the simple things. Now he is doing it consistently and deserves all the praise. The extra quality is just the icing on the cake. Fantastic response from him and a word of praise for his manager who has managed the situation impeccably.

In a way the goal he scored last night, some will expect that on a regular basis now and use it as an excuse to bash him when he doesn't it deliver. Even if he didn't score last night, his overall performance, just like it's been for the last few games, was already good.

Among the best players in last month or so, hopefully he keeps up the same form. We need Pogba, Bruno and at least couple of our attackers in good form to have any chance of title challenge.

Lets be honest he didn't start well. It was terrible tracking for their goal and he got caught a couple of times in dangerous areas in the opening 10 or 20 minutes.

Once he woke up he was brilliant though, our best player, the version we paid 100m for. Totally ran the game and the goal was brilliant from the first touch.

Best case is he ditches fat boy and commits to stay, worst case is this is his swansong and he's off in the summer.

While a player like Pogba is essential to have when building a world class team, I just don’t think he’s been consistent enough to justify a new and substantially higher contract than what we have already paid him (which has been a substantial amount on its own merit).

He’s been very crucial at times this season and I hope he can help us win the league but I think it’s time for him to leave in the summer.

Any sort of inconsistency, injuries or mood flings post contract renewal will make him a liability like never before. One we might get stuck with for the long haul.

When I take into consideration players who deserve contracts 400k or higher, I think of DDG as the most recent example. He was consistent & reliable enough to deserve the renewal. Even though he too suffered from fluctuations in form last season or two and almost had majority of fans turn on him.

I would much rather replace him with Grealish and give him & Bruno pay bumps. We also have Vdb and another DM signing would justify our system much better. Pogba has been played at RW/LW or in a two man midfield, both of which don’t support him in the long run.

To see his improved performances is truly a blessing but let’s not expect a few more years of such performances just like we didn’t see that level of consistency last few years.

He actually pointed to Bailly, what are you on about?

He has always been able to do this, the challenge is to maintain this level for the rest of the season.

Brilliant. He's been instrumental lately. Its not surprising though. Some of the posts on here about him over the past 12 months have been disgraceful and I have always maintained that.

agree - you and me both! Borderline racist aswell!

i want him to follow HIS man, if that means its behind De Gea then that's what he should do never mind just the CB's. Its exactly why he cant be trusted in a midfield 2. i'll take that as the idiot out the 2 options then

Your showing little understanding of football mate. No midfielder has ever done that because we have such a thing as an offside trap.

As a midfielder you never run behind your defensive line, that's just suicidal. If he follows him he plays breaks our offside line and leaves a huge gap in midfield.

It was a mix up between Bailly and Maguire, simple. Trying to blame Pogba for that is just massively bias, or you have no idea what you're talking about.

Let's not go there. Please find those borderline racist posts if you think there were some.

I don't care if it's cause it a transfer window nor I think it's cause of that nor we should talk like that. That's Pogba we all waited for and wanted to see. I think it's cause he's motivated and he sees the larger picture. And that is that we're in a title race and he wants to lead the troops. He took the mantle from Bruno who has been carrying the team since he came and it's fantastic that we are not relying on Bruno entirely anymore. Paul is singlehandedly bringing us points and long may it continue.

It was a professional performance once again. Kept the play going, kept the team ticking with his passes, short passes, long passes, passes across to field (he's great at those, pinning the pass to a teammate's eyebrow), was constantly moving, helping, defensively very got and awarded himself with a great goal.

When he's like this I hope he'll continue like that and get a new contract in the summer. Cause having a midfielder like that is a blessing. As long as his fat bastard of an agent keeps silent..

Even if he leaves hopefully at the end of a season he'll have a PL title. :D

That’s some challenge....Bruno, who is widely regarded as our best player isn’t doing that. I can’t think of a single player in our squad that’s maintained this level for a full half a season. Even when I think of RVP who for me made the difference in actually winning us a league, he didn’t maintain his form through the whole season. Was very patchy after Xmas for a good while.

But you get your reasons in while he’s playing well....then you can bash him for not playing this well every week. Hopefully your in the Bruno thread now bemoaning why he isn’t playing like he did at West Ham every week.

Some players get beaten with the most ridiculous sticks  Why would he follow a man behind our defensive line while we play an offside trap?

Anyway, good performance from him. We'll need at least one of him and Bruno stepping up at a time for us to keep this consistency going. Would love to see them both hit form at the same time though.

I can't tell if people are blind, or I just don't get football. He was absolutely crap, goal aside. He had one other nice pass into Martial in the box, but apart from that I thought he was really bad. He is incredibly dangerous to have in a deep position.

And on the same page we have someone insisting he track back beyond the CB's. Insane expectations on the guy.
How anyone can blame him for the goal is beyond me. Maybe AWB will once learn to hold a line so we won't have to discuss this again

Hopefully Pogba is hitting the peak at his age and we can agree a new contract with him.

The last thing we want is after signing the contract he will revert back to his old self. And year in year out his agent will run his mouth that Pogba want to go RM or Juve.

Great game again, hope he keeps it going.

It was Bailly's fault for the first goal not Pogba. Bailly sees the space open up and makes wrong choice to play offside instead of covering the space with his pace, hence why he's in the team and why Maguire goes wide, he trusts Bailly to cover.

Anyway doesn't matter now, we won and I'm sure they'll address it.

Ole said they were stuck in the hotel for a while and couldn't do a light session so probably explains the slow start.

It’s happening again...

Pogba is fooling me into thinking he is a genuinely world class player.

I’ve never been so up and down on a player. One minute I can’t stand to look at him the next I’m thinking he’s one of the most unique and talented footballers in the world.
