Rio summarised the goal quite well in the studio. Pogba was pointing to Bailly to cover Lookman but Bailly was completely switched off and did not cover the space. It's not something I noticed at the time, but the goal was primarily on Bailly.

if you run with a man you follow him till the other person goes with him, he never done that. Bailey should have been more switched on but Pogba also has to as well.

His passing was sloppy as feck in the first half but he worked hard all game and stepped up his game in the second half, his goal reminded me of the one below on a similar rainy night vs. Wigan in the 08/09 title winning season.

Maybe he just can’t get motivated for a Top 6 finish...but with a sniff of the title he has switch on!

Watching him play right now, makes memories of the majority of the last 4 years incredibly frustrating.

feck you Pogba. Where were you all this time?

If a pro player can't give it all when his team is on the Top, he might as well just quit football.

I feel some type of ways seeing this very place that so quick to trash Pogba at every turn showering him with praise. As soon as the sky tirn cloudy again this place will rear it toxic head again.

Can't really take this thread and its posts seriously given how quick these boards are quick to vilify players, especially Pogba unfairly.

For his own good he needs to leave end of this season and find a much happier environment to work at. United has simply been toxic to him from media to fans inside the stadium who've actually booed him.

It's good to see him help us pick up important points. Hopefully he leaves on a high and help us win something this season.
Spot on mate, agree with every single word, but I don't want him to leave, we should build a team around him.
He is the ultimate scapegoat, even when he puts a decent performance, there are people calling for his head.
His treatment by some fans reminds me of Nani actually.

Yup. The first touch to bring the ball down and how he created that space were beautiful
Criminal of BT Sport to leave it out of the replays.

He killed a hoof ball 30 yards in the air to start it off and there was no mention of it at all. Crazy.

I don’t think people realize that the goal isn’t what made his performance so good. He’s shown increased awareness off the ball defensively along with much cleaner tackling, and it basically makes him a complete midfielder as opposed to a giant Pirlo or someone that has to have others constantly covering for them.

On the ball he's class even if he was very poor in the first half imo. Defensively though, I don't he was effective enough for me. It's not a lack of effort or awareness but the intent and execution. He does well to hover in the right positions but he doesn't really put his foot in or get goal side fast enough. There were more than a few occasions where the Fulham players got an easy pass or dribble out; I'm aware it's a fundamental issue as we're just not switced on when it comes to pressing or winning second balls etc as a team.

It's still a very valid criticism of his when he's in a midfield two but it's also true there's not a player who possesses Pogba's ability and is defensively robust. Maybe I'm being harsh.

It doesn't really matter though, the goal is what sets him apart from anyone else tonight.

Shop window Pogba is world class, now if we could convince him the windows is actually open all year round..

Appropriate response. Just thought you were putting him on a pedestal after one game, just provided some context to that post. You could say the same thing about pretty much any player and it would be true. If Bruno or even Maguire gets injured for the rest of the season then Pogba will matter as much as McTominay in the chase for the title race.
Not after one game ...he’s been on track every since his agent gobbed off. Big game player when he wants to be.

Try Google ;)
It just says Pogba is unhappy at the club. Should move on to better things etc. What happened don't be difficult. Pogba was great, great goal I went crazy, love him when he shoots I've been asking for it.

He’s in the sort of form where you wish he’d just sign a new contract and stay. There would be something a little deflating if he were to leave in the moment in which we'd finally started to put it together. I suspect he will leave, mind you, and have done for some time.

You guys still running around with this "building a team around" nonsense?

You're supposed to build a strong team period. Not around any particular players. Most elite teams have quality all around thus they better sustain their form when core players are injured or out of form. "Building team around" is such an archaic concept, that I feel it only ever gets used to make it seems as though one is saying something substantial when really they're just waffling.
I'd say you misread my post

He already had more than that this season, the number of his bad games are always exaggerated to a ridiculous level.
Not bad games, he did have some, but games where he isn't the best players in the league as we pay him, or games where we couldn't improve upon him in the double pivot position

For 350k a week as part of a midfield 2 we can improve on him in most games, simple enough for me

Most arguments will be around playing him in a different position.. ok well ole doesn't seem to want to play a different system most of the time

We need to build a team around him and let him express himself. We did it for Bruno.

I honestly don’t believe it would take much, literally a top level DM - which is absolutely needed anyway!

Play him in a two and vary that with him pushing up and playing off the left in a diamond like we have varied it with him this season.

His weakness is the defensive side to his game, it’s very hit and miss and it’s why he thrives more next to Kante for example with France.

You pair him with the right midfield partner and you won’t find a better deep lying playmaker.

Ultimately there is far more to be gained from keeping him and getting the best from him than there is in selling him and trying to replace his ability. In short we simply won’t sign a replacement with his level of ability.

Edit: Rio is saying the same right now, with the right players he can flourish.
We have the rest of the season to see if he flourishes but really he hasn't been consisrent for most of his senior career, he is the best paid player in the league and wants to leave very obviously .. I'm hoping fans don't get too attached to him again and accept we will probably be better with the eight replacement. The only downside is that the club have been so bad at getting oles players that we aren't likely to actually sigh a suitable replacement / improvement

He doesn’t earn £350k a week.

And he is amongst the best midfielders in the league anyway.

He's about to do a Nani backflip during celebration but Bruno prevented him. Sell Bruno, play Lingard.

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but Ole said in the post match interview with the Norwegian broadcaster that he had gotten Pogba to do some extra running in training, might explain some of his resurge in form aswell

Not even at the club. But nevermind.

Yep it was a great goal. Seems since his arrival in 2016 he’s scored more goals from outside the box than any other player in the prem.

That’s only United players. And tbh, like half of those have come in the last month or so!

the equaliser at west ham, the winner at brnley and fulham. the only stain on that record is the Leipzig goal, if he had come on sooner it might have led to 3-3. i think he's been the best player since the leipzig game (or west ham, whichever came first)

Because Pogba has had nothing to do with us being top?

Perhaps the issue was finally realising that he shouldn’t ‘drag’ us to the top - we should build a strong team to get there, like adding Bruno to Pogba in the first place!
This is what people forget that Bruno being signed added to the quality already at the club. And don't forget that it was Lingard who lost his place in the team which in itself improved us due to a complete lack of productivity from him. So as long as we signed someone who was considerably better than Lingard (not difficult) we were always gonna improve considerably. And if Diallo does the same on the RW then we'll improve considerably on that side of the pitch too.

This is rather disingenuous considering he's actually had performances that have eclipsed these last few ones at united

it was x100 better than that goal

Interesting fact for those who say he hasn't replicated his Juventus form:

According to his wiki page he currently has 28 goals in 124 league appearances - exactly the same as he got for Juve.

People have some romantic and perhaps nostalgic vision of this one man wrecking ball winning trophies alone, it doesn’t work like that. If it did, why did Bruno not drag Sporting to first place in Portugal? Bruno has made our team better, which we needed it to be. Even the majority of Pogba’s critics on the caf had called him our ‘best player’ for years - but it wasn’t enough.

We lined up at Anfield last season with a front 6 of Fred, Matic, Pereira, James, Williams and Martial. It’s fecking shocking - we desperately needed to lift the quality, and Bruno has contributed to that, as has other key players simply getting fit and getting older.

No matter how much ‘dragging’ Bruno has done - he would not have dragged the 20 year old version of Rashford or the 21 year old version of Martial anywhere. We had bet big on young talent who were not ready a few years ago regardless, yet were given key roles in our team. Others like Sanchez, Mkhitaryan and co who were brought in to deliver immediately had failed. Pogba was never going to ‘drag’ that team anywhere - especially as he was still young and developing himself. He wasn’t ready to do that, and the players around him were not ready to be dragged. But we believed in their talent, and Bruno has come into the squad at a good time where the profile of our better players is stronger - and we have added a few more of the right profile like Maguire and Fred who can perform now.

People wanted a 23-25 year old Pogba to drag a 21 year old Rashford, 21 year old Martial, Mkhi, Young, Jones, Rojo and co to titles. Bruno has the mid-twenties version of a lot of our young talents, and some better leaders around him too. He also has a more mature and better version of Pogba to help, as opposed to the younger version who was more erratic.

It’s worth remembering when everyone is scratching their heads looking for what agenda is causing Pogba to play well that he is 27 now and also entering his own prime as a footballer. Perhaps he is just getting better and is maturing?!

Sorry but this is unfair. He's underperformed for years but people knew he was capable of this, hence the massive frustrations. Now he's playing well, people are giving him credit where it's due. That's exactly how it should be. If they didn't give him credit where it's due, people would be complaining about that as well (although quite rightly in that case).

Was excellent second half, not a bad footballer when on form at all.

Agree wholeheartedly with you bro.

But like i've said in the past, we need both Pogba and Bruno in tandem because it makes us a more dangerous team going forward and I look forward to seeing both play together because their roles are very different and both provide their own unique strengths which is important for us.

This is the Pogba you paid 100m for. He's unplayable on his day. These are the kind of players that you try to accommodate, and not necessarily build the whole team around him, but you tailor the team to accentuate his strengths.
I'd expect more to be honest for 100m. Maybe a hatricm against this level opposition and some nice skills
