Actually 145 including his salary till the end of his contract but we can afford it. And we should to show our power. We could freeze him out for 2 seasons and sell him in the last if we really wanted the money but we don't need the cash.

The point is the club has been too nice and supportive for too many mediocre players. If they don't perform we should savage them in the press and exile them into obscurity.

Yeah, that will make us really attractive for other players:wenger:

Don't forget among our current players also. But considering the whole squad bar a couple of players isn't playing close to their standard/potential, maybe the problem lies elsewhere?

145m can get us another world class players right away, so no we can't really afford that. We have alot of rebuilding work to do, and that will cost us alot of money.

Still a lot of time left in the season to regain form. This international break can't come at a better time for us with so many of our out of form players getting a run in with their NTs.

He isn't a no 10. His biggest strength is his ability to dribble from the midfield and get into the attacking 3rd. If we ask him to play in lingard's position he will play 10 yards or so ahead of where he plays right now thus taking away his ability to beat the man and create that momentary space to play a good ball through.
Agreed, Pogba can't play that far in the pitch, well he could but best to play him deeper. I even think he's done quite well next to Herrera last year who's done a great job to keep the midfield on his own, only shows problem which Matic can bring playing with Pogba, he cannot cover the ground quickly enough. But I'd still try it out in easier games, making Pogba work harder and more keep his position, because he can pick a great pass from there. Rather than see bang average at best McTominay keeping it simple unable to make 10 yard pass, rather see us a bit open and actually attack and it worked at the start of the season.

In big games we need an extra man in midfield for sure if Pogba's to stat in midfield

Nonsense, he isn't ready to play and based on his performances frankly shouldn't even be on the bench. He has disgraced the club and the best thing to do is to banish him to the reserves to get his game together. I hope he gets booed the next time he comes on.
Childish. How would that help?

The bloke has been unable to consistanly complete reasonable passes for weeks. Everyone knows where his best position is, it doesn't really mean anything with him at the minute. He's not running with the ball, which is his main strength. Maybe he's injured, maybe him and Sanchez have been hitting a fluffy pillows because he had an extra tenner in his wallet, who knows but he needs to do a hell of a lot better. No issue at all with him not being out there last night.

I had a chat on a different forum with a Liverpool fan about pogba's lack of work rate. The Liverpool guy is an actual knowledgeable one and has watched pogba at Juventus much more, he said that one thing pogba hates more than anything is someone else making him look bad

At Juventus Vidal worked his socks off sort of motivating pogba to match him so as not to look bad and he was apparently very instrumental in playing a keane sort of role in giving pogba a bollocking if he slacked off may be we need a similar player. Kante would have been an exceptional player in that regard.

I believe what @BigCaine has said is true. Pogba is a very very good player when he is a cog in a machine. He can't be the man leading the team, you can see in his personality that he is a very friendly character, he's not one to discipline other players, he needs to be disciplined by others.

Mixed feelings about this guy. He's excelent physical and technically, unplayable on his day. But I don't think it comes natural for him to perform that role in a midfield two, where a team needs a type of player more like a swiss clock. He lacks discipline and positional sense, and it looks like many times he's one second late. At the same time it means wasting his talent, power and acceleration if he's asked to sit back and give balance, coverings like he's (obviously) demanded to do if he plays there.

I feel he dropped his attitude in the last months which is inexcusable, and he deserves criticism. But in overall I expect better from the club and the manager when they sign a player for big bucks. I don't see the sense of doing such a statement in the market, if we can't back it up with a plan to maximize the qualities of that player.

It seems that Mourinho expects Pogba to magically play like Pirlo or Xabi Alonso, and he gets angry when he's caught out of position or holds the ball for too long. It's been always a strange marriage taking into account Pogba's anarchic and instintive nature, and Mourinho's solid football principles. I guess it was a matter of time that some breaks appeared there, so let's see how it ends.

But if I had to choose, I'd rather keep Pogba than Mourinho. With some accommodation and a more fluid proposal he could be an absolute monster for us, like he was against Everton away not so long ago. Under the current management I think he's going to be a disappointment and he'll get devaluated, like many other players.

I think he will be gone in the summer, and tbh it won't be a huge loss, he has never really performed for us especially when it counts in the big games.

Say what you want about mourinho and I am not a big fan, but Pogba just doesn't seem to care and we actually perform better when he isn't in team recently.

Getting booed by your own fans really hurts, it will either toughen a player up quickly or cause him to melt down and probably leave. Either way thats what you want. Real boo their own players regularly and it works.

To all the fans wanting the pog gone... I only have one question for you. Forget that we paid £89m as that is gone... wud we be top4 without him and how will his leaving benefit the club? ... if you’re assuming we will have a better replacement please name and explain. I’m pretty confident the Glazers won’t go out and she’ll another $89m for a player plus wages....the said player might also not agree to come as top talent got lots of choices these days

Fans are short sighted. Salah, kdb, etc were all ditched by JM but excelled elsewhere. The Pog will be a big star I’m a few years even if he leaves. Defending is something he can learn but needs some patience and cover on the big games.

We’ll let him play the last few unimportant PL games where he will probably discover some decent form. Combine that and his reputation with a good showing at the World Cup, we’ll still get more than what we paid for him. But I would rather keep him here and improve our football instead of selling one of our few talented players.

Some of the responses in here, feck me. And some of ye refer to yourselves as “supporters’. The Caf at times reinvents the meaning of the word.

By the way I don’t mean to say JM is a bad coach but as the saying goes... time waits for no man and his job title at Chelsea did not include endless wait for talent to develop. Jose is way too smart not to have known that kdb and Salah would eventually come good( watch how warmly Salah greets JM every time they meet). They’re just not suited to JM teams and that’s understandable. He was about delivering results and wasn’t about to wait endlessly for these two to develop...especially with Hazard in the team.

When you do a proper comparison with other midfielders in the league (not easy to do a perfect comparison I know) what you basically see is a very creative DMC/MC but also one that doesn't put his foot in as much (tackles/interceptions). His general passing stats aren't fantastic either compared to his peers in the league.

So essentially when he wants to, he can do the hard shit (creative passes, assists) but needs to do better with the basics of being a midfielder (tackles, simple passing, take on your man).

Mourinho was right to bench pogba for so many matches.

Looks like the King will be unleashed soon.

I agree with the person who said they would like to see him in the lingard role. He's unique. There are very few players who have ever been like him. Creative, athletic, big, strong, great passing range and good dribbling. Offensively he's as complete a midfielder as you can have. But he lacks the discipline, positional awareness and work rate to play this role. Furthermore, he does not seem willing to play in a 2 and i honestly feel he sees himself as an attacker as he goes forward more times than Yaya Toure used to for city. I don't blame mourinho for not knowing how to use him as there has hardly ever been a similar player. He reminds me of Ruud Gullit and I feel we should use him the same way. Milan used Gullit as a second striker/attacking midfieder who constantly roamed or a right sided attacking midfielder. Mourinho used him like this in the Chelsea game and we saw Pogba being able to dribble from deep, having enough time and space to influence the game without the heavy defensive responsibilities required of him in midfield. Essentially we can switch up the formation. In addition, Mourinho can used him the way he used sneijder and deco. Allowing him to roam and pick his passes. Benitez used Gerrard the same way and that was Liverpools highest finish in the league under Benitez.
If i were Mourinho, I would go back to the 4222, not only because of Pogba, but also because of Lukaku. As united do not have wingers who create width, and personally i feel both Martial and Rashford are strikers, this would benefit the team as a whole. If we can sign a midfielder willing to stay in midfield with and ability to press and pass, it will allow pogba and sanchez to create, and possibly bring out the best in Pogba and Lukaku( who is seriously lacking service).

On the contrary, I want him to be even better than his promise. I've said it before, I have no problems with players having bad games or even bad months as long as they try and fight through it. If you look through my posting history Pogba is one of the few players I've ever criticized. I criticized him not because he's having a bad patch of form or because of some bad passing but because it was evident he was sulking and not giving 100% in some protest against the manager and he chose to do this in the most important game of the season. Simply unacceptable and unprofessional behaviour that has no place at a club like ours. He was bought for a world record fee at the time and is likely in the top 20 list of players with the highest wages in the world yet he throws tantrums like 4 year olds. He needs to grow up and show some professionalism. As long as he gives 100% I'll stay happy and give him time to find his form but the childish shit has to stop. He has so much talent that he's throwing away.
I don't know how evident it can be that he was actually throwing a tantrum. He may just be lacking confidence, which can effect your whole demeanor. Plus he has always had that arrogant swagger about his play, which is his style, as opposed to some charging bull. I would give him the benefit of the doubt in that regard and believe that maybe his head down.

You're right there is no way of knowing unless he openly says so but I'm not the only one that's come to that conclusion.

Papin said:

“Paul, I’ll give him a little bit of advice – change attitude a bit,” he told RMC.

“He should stop making it a Mourinho-Pogba duel, because the club of Manchester United is much more important than those two guys.

“Right now, he’s making it personal and you can clearly see that on the pitch as he is sending out a lot of negative signals.

“It gets tiresome when you’re sulking permanently.”

I'm not saying I'm right but his whole body language and the effort he showed in the most important game of our season was to me of a person sulking and protesting. We lost the ball and Sevilla started the counter Pogba didn't even bother running back to help his defence but jogged casually, even players further up the pitch made it back before him, thats a sign of a player not caring for me anyways. He showed no will or urgency, fine he's out of form but that doesn't mean you shouldn't even bother giving 100%.

Might be wrong but I'm convinced he made some kind of protest in that game.

I don't think Pogba gave the ball away on purpose against Sevilla, I think he's just out of sorts with everything that has happened. For the first time in his career his ability is being questioned, it's a test he has to overcome.

After the Liverpool win he was seen embracing Jose. I think he has been dropped but it doesn't mean there is an issue, it means Jose is pushing Pogba to improve. See the quotes from Makalele, I think it was. Jose only does this to the players he rates and thinks can improve if pushed.

Sell a £90m signing after two years at age 24.
How is this even being entertained?

Should have played pogba in attack. That way, manutd would have attacked more by default and would not have lost against Sevilla.

I would have an out of form Pogba in ahead of Fellaini every day of the week. Time to give him a proper run of games again and he will reach his natural level which he was getting close to at the start of the season.

The closest we'll get to his best ever Mohawk haircut (Juventus).

That looks awful.

At least hopefully he uses this break to regain some for with his NT before returning here. Maybe he really needed that break.

If only he put as much energy into his performances on the pitch as he does with his haircut. It really annoys me he's forever posting silly dances or another haircut.
Paul if you are listening, we need your dynamism and power and effort in the middle of the pitch, not sat in the barber's chair.

We should look back to Hazard under Mourinho as an example of what Pogba could be going through at the moment, a creative player held back by strict tactical instruction.

Hazard won PFA player of the year under Mourinho. Choose other example, just saying..

Was gonna do a standard old fart post about preferring the good old days when nobody talked about hairstyles but then I remembered how every one of Beckham’s new ‘dos made the back (and often, front) pages. So I guess this is nothing new. If only Pog put in as much effort on the pitch as the bloke who paved the way for his high profile haircuts :(

I see Deschamps has chimed in where is opinion is not wanted, saying Pog "can't be happy" at the moment.

Way to state the obvious, dick.
