Liverpool targeted him in OT last season, at least now he will know what to expect so hopefully he can play better.
L'pool targeted Carrick in particular. Then we switch to 2 men midfield adding Rooney of all people in second half. Just putting more pressure on Herrera and Pogba. Pogba problem is he losing his head after giving the penalty. He played selfishly trying to undo the goal by himself. Still he was our spark of creativity in that game. Not good but far from the targets of L'pool. The only thing he was targeted was in defending set piece.

Players that "get" Pogba imho.
  • Carrick - He's the only that can pick Pogba's erratic movements at the "right" timing.
  • Zlatan - He made a lot of running behind the defensive lines, picking up the pocket spaces in the box, which Pogba loves to drill in his passes towards to.
  • Shaw - The only FB that over overlap for far too much, which probably irks Jose. Pogba loves players that run beyond the defense lines.
  • Rojo - Maybe our only CB that kept on passing to Pogba whenever he wants the ball.
  • Martial - His understanding with Pogba is quite good, whenever Martial went to the wing or cutting in, they pass with and look for each other.
  • Lingard - Sometimes they clicks, sometimes no, strange enough.
Most of those players rarely play though, and his chemistry with his other best pal, Lukaku, is not up to good standard.

I rate Pogba but can see that there are major issues to his game that need ironing out.

For that reason I'm struggling to see a situation whereby he's not terrible against Liverpool. They're the worst team for him to face because they expose all his issues. I hope I'm terribly wrong but have this nagging feeling that he'll be our undoing this weekend.

that was the game where all the Pogba emojis were spinning around the stadium, when he was dying on his arse. It was embarrassing to watch

Was awful last season in this fixture.

Dont have high expectations for him in this one either to be honest.

Defensively, he was. He kept making mistakes from corners and eventually gave away that penalty. Other than that, he was good, IIRC.

I'm quite confident that Pogba was poor in this fixture because of the Pogba emoji and the game being all about him.

Pogba when he is a cog in a machine, well drilled and knows his role is the best Pogba I've seen; a player that could claim to be one of the best midfielders in the world. Pogba being the 'main man' has been horrible more often than not.

I am not surprised that the captain's armband has been taken off of him, he's not a leader.

Article and stat doesn't take into consideration Pogba's recent overall average form plus it can sound misleading putting the blame on Sanchez. That being said, by 15 jan, didn't expect his mins/assist to be that high. Thought KDB would be higher. Pogba did missed more games with his early season injury. Chances created by minutes stats would be a fairer comparison.

If he's shite against Liverpool (again), Mourinho needs to think about another midfielder coming in for the summer (he's probably already weighing up his options I imagine).

Pogba has all the tools and I think even those who criticise him can see the talent in his boots. But at the end of the day if he can't be depended upon to be a reliable performer against our rivals (never mind the rest of the league), then we need at least somebody better alongside him.

Didn't he also come out and say "at least we didn't lose to Liverpool"

No better game to show everyone what he is made of. Has been in poor form for a while and needs to perform on a brilliant level for united to get a front foot in the game.

But honestly I would have been happier with Herrera, matic and mctominay because pogba tends to dwaddle on the ball and puts pressure on himself. With Liverpool's pressing, it can only end up bad for united.

Or someone better instead of him.

Disagree. My memory was there was 2 or 3 around him every time he received the ball. Liverpool press as a default anyway but there was definitely a concerted effort to press Pogba. Pogba didn't help this by trying to dribble instead of playing the ball off first time/quicker. Hopefully he will have learnt from that game.

Seems to miss big games pretty often through injury (not like he ever does well in them anyway..)

I honestly couldn't care less.
Hes nearing the stage where he's missing as many big games v the top sides as he plays. I'm used to it now.
I wouldn't be shocked if he returns v Sevilla

Not his season is it? Very frustrating. He really needs to step it up massively next year for sure, regardless of positional chat. His attitude and work ethic needs to be better.

Is Fellaini or Herrera fit? If not, it will be Carrick, Matic, McTominay. Either way I think this match has 0-0 written all over it.

If he's not 100% ready he shouldn't play. The game won't handle a midfield sulking and jogging around because of injury.

He must have one serious gash on his leg to miss a game the next day. You can get a gash treated and wrapped up for a game, unless it's so deep or big that he's got stitches on it that he can't play with.

A gashed leg apparently, at least not muscular.
If it's not muscular then he might have a chance. Will have to wait and see. If it is muscular then he misses the Sevilla game too. Who would give him a gashed leg in training? Last time I heard Phil Jones was injured.

If it is anything like the gash Rooney got courtesy of Assou-Ekotto then he could be out for a few weeks.

Really depends on the severity of it.

As much as I've criticised him recently, deservedly so too I think, it'd be a big blow to lose him tomorrow.

Matic and Mctominay partnership sounds horrible.

Further confirmation of his injury in yesterday’s training...

My enthusiasm for the game just evaporated.
