Looked very very good. I actually like him better in that deep position. Gives him space to work his magic. How often is he going to hit woodwork though. Ridiculous.

Good game from Pogba; however, I still feel that he would be better served in a midfield three that doesn't include Fellaini in it.

Get him a couple of top drawer midfielders in beside him and watch this kid go boom.

He should be one of the best free kick takers in the world at some point. Great technique.

He only got going when he was taken off.

I'd say either him or Martial deserve motm, even considering Zlatan's hattrick. Imposed himself well throughout and could've easily had at least an assist + goal today.

Yeah, it's hard to see what Fellaini really offers. Pogba needs a deep-lying playmaker (Pirlo/ Carrick) to open up the game for him, and he also needs a more energetic CM alongside him (Vidal/ Herrera) to allow him the freedom he needs. Fellaini is nowhere near good enough to be a high-calibre deep-lying playmaker or a high-calibre CM for the matter.

He has had so many nearly moments this season that it has to go right for him at some point right? He'd have so many more goals and assists.

So many times, he's hit the bar or a teammate has wasted his great pass.

Thought he was good again today.

Great ball for Mata chance in the 1st half and overall a very good game. Looked composed and relaxed out there. When he does things simple he looks great.

Someone posted 8 hits off the woodwork in the matchday thread.

Amazing that he would be on 15 goals already with a bit more luck.

Needs to work on his finishing for sure 8/9 times in one season is not luck.

MOTM for me. Did everything right when the rest of the team was struggling. He just needs to take his chances when presented with good scoring opportunities.

I don't think luck had anything to do it today. Hitting a post from that close is just a bad miss. He tries to be too accurate with his shots which causes him to hit the posts so often.

Rene Meulensteen in an interview explained how he transformed Ronaldo into such a lethal finisher. I think the same will apply to Pogba as well.

"Cristiano, I’ve looked at your goals last season, and you only scored 23 because you want to score the perfect goal all the time. ‘Look at me! Top corner!’ The most important individuals are the ones who elevate the team, not themselves. You think it’s the other way round. No, no, no. Elevate the team and the team will then elevate you.’”

The Dutchman asked United’s No 7 to set a goal target. “Ronaldo said: ‘I think I can score between 30 and 35 goals.’ ‘OK,’ I said. ‘I think you can go over 40. This week, in these training sessions, I’m going to work on your way of finishing.’”

They first discussed Ronaldo’s mindset when approaching goal. “I told him: ‘Look at Shearer, Lineker, Solskjaer and Van Nistelrooy: who say give me the ball, that goes in the back of the net.’“

Ronaldo was focused more on the spectacular. “He was thinking: ‘That ball comes to me, I hit it top corner.’ I needed him to get out of that. I told him: ‘It doesn’t matter how you score, where you score, as long as the ball goes in the net.’” It was time to score ugly goals as well as beautiful ones.

“We worked on positions, which zone he was in, 1 (in front of goal), 2 (to the sides) or 3 (further out). We worked on what type of finish. One-touch. Do you need to control it? Volley it. Pass it in. Side-foot it in. Chip it in. We worked on certain goalkeepers. Did they have a certain trend? It’s details. When [post-Ronaldo] we played Schalke away in the Champions League semi [in 2011], we knew that Manuel Neuer, a good goalkeeper, was like Peter Schmeichel and would come out with a star jump [spreading himself]. So we worked on finishes low to either side, low through the legs.’’ Ryan Giggs scored.

Back in that early-season period at Carrington in 2007, Meulensteen and Ronaldo worked on different goalscoring scenarios every day but with one staple for each drill. “It was four repetitions, move on, four repetitions, move on,” Meulensteen explained. “That’s what I’ve learned from experience. People hold their concentration for 1 2 3 4 Bang.’’

Ronaldo was educated to create an image of the situation and the desired outcome: “Where am I [position]? Where’s the ball coming from? Where’s the goalkeeper? Where’s the finish?” Meulensteen gave colours to the four corners of the goal. “Cristiano had his back to the goal. He had to shout which colour, green whichever, he was aiming for, so subconsciously working his brain. He knew his target in advance.’’

Showed great composure in the deeper role, using the ball really well, switching play effortlessly and creating openings, my MOTM.

Love how he's instantly looking for forward passes/options as soon as he receives/wins the ball. He needs to up his end product particularly goals, fecking woodwork. Assists he should be on quite a few more weren't it for players missing chances.

Excellent performance tonight, he wasn't distracted about facing his brother at all.

Pity Danny Welbeck didn't get that memo about Manuel Neuer. Clean through at Old Trafford against Bayern and he tried to chip him.

Playing him in a deeper position gives him more touches and time on the ball which is a plus point, but i also find his pressing to be average.

He also doesn't seem to track midfield runners or the player in the hole all that well for someone playing in a deeper role. Given his size, physicality and stamina he should be better at screening the defence from all that. Guess he'll learn all of that with time. As of now I'd prefer a holding player (more defensive minded) next to him in a midfield two or whenever he is playing deeper. Having said that, it will probably be Herrera who will have to make way for a holding midfielder next to Pogba, so I'm not really keen on that happening as well since Herrera has been mint!

He really was a fantastic coach. So many players saying great things about him.

Superb tonight I thought, only missing a goal. Bossed the game with his passing. Got about well too, always there for a pass and defended well when needed.

He can do it all, such a unique player

He was immense tonight. Best midfield performance in a long while IMO.

He links the defense to attack very well, love how he comes between the two CBs to collect the ball off the GK. He always looks to play the ball forward too. If only we can get better players in front of him in the midfield, Fellaini stank up the first half.

Loved that roulette turn and long range effort. Good game from him tonight from what I saw of it (basically the 2nd half).

His decision making seems a little calmer, yet quicker.

He did give the ball away that led to St Et's best chance that I saw, but he gave it away deep into their half which is much more forgivable.

Keep it up, Pogba lad.

Paul PogBar

He is so good at changing the play with either his left or right. The move that lead to our free kick for the first, he picked it up, and is telling Blind to get forward and pings it out with his left with ease. I think we will see the best of him in a deep midfield role when we use and play with players who will run in behind instead of always dropping deep.

I think he should be on more goals and thats down to him. But he defo should have more assists and thats where hes been unlucky.

I thought he actually benefitted from the chaos of the opposition's tactics tonight.

The Premier League (I wouldn't have said this 10 years ago) has become so disciplined and organised and teams have managed to shut him out.

Tonight, to my surprise as if been reading how conservative and defensive they are, their midfielders were flying around all over the place in a completely uncoordinated fashion and Pogba was enjoying himself pickup up space and working working between the lines.

True. They should to be fair all look good. This is a fairly big step down from ECL.

It'd be great if he could be a real throwback to the box to box midfielder. That to me is really exciting. More so than seeing him drift around the final third.

Good to see.

Watched his interview on MUTV and he said that in 8 months at United he's hit the crossbar more times than his 4 years at Juventus
