Well, our last good signing was Bruno, even though last summer wasn't a complete failure. Zirkzee was a highly rated young player in Italy.
Zirkzee was a profile that made sense given we didn't have a CF outside of Hojlund and at the time there was no Ighalo/Cavani kind of deal on the market.
However I feel like if Amorim was managing back then, he wouldn't have approved the signing. Because while he fit the profile of the position, he didn't necessarily fit Amorim's system.
Ten Hag had a team without identity so of course he would have approved any decent talent.... he was also desperate to save his job I reckon.

We can see the shift now, it's now system focused. The system really needs very good WBs so we signed all the potentials before middlemen clubs signed them and sell to us for stupid price in 2-3 years.

I’ve got high hopes for him - and that’s simply based on the fact that we are signing someone who actually suits Amorim’s system.

He is definitely not good enough, but he’s also definitely not a downgrade on Malacia, who simply lacks the pace and athleticism for the PL. Lamptey is quick. Just don’t think he has all the assets we are looking for.
This forum is toxic.

Best of luck Patrick - nice time of year to arrive. Hope you enjoy your new surroundings, get settled in, and grow and develop in the Amorim Carrington setup.

This is the profile of signing we need to be making as a club, young with lots of potential and the price isn’t outrageous, nor the wages. If we make 5 of these signings and say 3 work out that’s a good return. At the age profile there is still a good possibility of making decent money back on the ones that don’t work out long term.

Exciting signing. A bit moneyballesque. Let's hope it works well for amorim's system.

He's not my ideal wingback but now he's here I'm excited to see if he's much better than maybe he looks in highlight comps and honestly with those wages, he'd have to be really bad to be a truly bad signing or one we can't flip.

Hopefully he goes on to be as successful as the last Pat we signed in January.

Having an actual LWB should definitely bring us more balance. Dalot did well in the second half on Thursday by getting in behind the defense but we need someone who will do the same consistently. Hopefully Dorgu is that guy
