How about Dalot, he was 21 for €10m and had almost identical numbers to Dorgu from the same league - Probably the most accurate comparison we can draw but I've doubled that and said €20m as things have increased in the last 4 years, more than fair in my head.
There are players who were sold for a smaller fee and performed well and there are others who went for a high fee but failed to meet expectations. A player price depends on what the selling club demands and how much the buying club is willing to pay. €35m plus €5m in difficult add ons in January is not a particularly high price for a promising and sought after player like Dorgu. Lets see how he adapts to the league.

Estupinan is 27 and they bought Ferdi for a lot of money in the summer and has only started 3 games at full back and 2 times in midfield in the league despite being older and more experienced than Barco. They have Lamptey who has barely played but when he has recently hes done well. So they have a lot of attacking fullbacks/wingback options
Weirdly it also looks like they might be selling Lamptey too this window who is OOC in the summer. Someone I wouldn’t mind us signing tbh as a back-up wing back.

Same. Although he is tiny and that certainly wont help from set pieces which we're weak defending. May not have played well today with Brighton being thrashed 7-0 by Forest too...

He’s overrated and pretty crap. Downgrade on Malacia.

Had to do a double take when I saw his wages.

The fact it was 5 figures was the most shocking thing. I’m not used to us offering logical, realistic wages

clubs been quiet over this deal. Usually they at least announce a fee as been agreed.

still have my reservations, doesnt look that explosive. rather closer to Dalot than fast accelerating wingback. Not sure about his attacking output. Would rather we went for someone attacking, defendign can be tought easier than refining attacking skills learnt from youth.

But perhaps he's young always fit and motivated and will progress into a great reliable player over years covering more positions.

I thought he's meant to be very attacking?

There was a stat on a tweet the other day. Had the most progressive actions in Europe for players in his position under 23 or something. It's posted somewhere in this thread I think.

And it's misleading, since it's a comparison to FBs, while he played more than half of his games as winger

After signing Leon I thought we would target a more experienced player but I guess we could not afford one.

You learn on the job I guess. We've basically all given Amorim a free pass for the rest of the season, so Dorgu gets one as well. My feeling is that he'll be quite up and down - some great stuff and some awful. But we're in a position where that's sort of okay, at least for now.

Or maybe it allignes with SJR tactic that he mentioned very early in his tenure: "We won't be looking to sign Mpabbe, we are going to sign next Mbappe."
Senator, I served with Kylian Mbappe, I knew Kylian Mbappe, Kylian Mbappe was a friend of mine. Senator, Patrick Dorgu is no next Kylian Mbappe

He is definitely not good enough, but he’s also definitely not a downgrade on Malacia, who simply lacks the pace and athleticism for the PL. Lamptey is quick. Just don’t think he has all the assets we are looking for.

I'll hope the United scouts, Vivell and Wilcox know more than a fan forum

I can't help but feel a bit nonplussed by this deal. But we have had plenty of exciting signings before who went on to do feck all, so hope he proves to be a key player

There’s no question that they do. What of it? Have they signed Lamptey to a deal at United? No? Ok, then. It’s one fan’s opinion on the forum then vs. another. Your condescension was noted though. Thanks.

Well, our last good signing was Bruno, even though last summer wasn't a complete failure. Zirkzee was a highly rated young player in Italy.

This is nonsense. De Ligt, Maz, and Ugarte were all good signings this summer and Yoro looks to have plenty of promise. Zirkzee is a bit off it currently, but it’s early on still. There are plenty of things around United to be negative about. We don’t have to invent new things or give ourselves over to hyperbole to moan about what the Glazers have done to this storied club.

So far it's beginning to feel like the current Chelsea owners start to their transfer policy - trying to buy up huge amounts of youngsters, some that'll hopefully work for the first team, others to be sold to help with PSR.

That's obviously a decent policy - especially financially. Though Chelsea's policy has so far led to two trophyless seasons, after mostly winning a trophy each year prior to that; and finishes outside the CL spots after regularly being in them previously. So it's not a policy that necessarily leads to much on field success - at least initially.

Still, it's positive to finally see some kind of direction at the club. And one that's sustainable financially. I just hope it's not at the cost of seeing us win trophies - even the disparagingly called 'minor' trophies.

We've signed Amad, Martinez, de Ligt, Mazraoui and Ugarte since then. All look to be good signings and obviously Yoro too who I have no doubt will come good for us.
