Not the original poster but the benchmarks are completely different for an attacker than a defender. Check his profile on fbref as a defender in which his attacking stats are maxed out and as a winger where they look pretty poor. This doesn't suggest that he is good enough to be an attacker but that even a mediocre winger's numbers would look great for a full back.
It would suggest to me that the team are struggling and he wants his better attackers closer to goal.

Looks like Valentin Barco is on the move from Brighton to Strassborg for a loan with obligation to buy for £8.35 million. Another highly rated 20 year old left fullback

Will be very interesting to see how he does compared to Barco, costing almost 1/3 as much as Dorgu. Hopefully Dorgu will be 3 times as good, I'm skeptical

Well a reason for the low fee might be that he has yet to establish himself in a European side since joining Brighton last winter and is heading to his 3rd team in the span of a year.

Dorgu has been a consistent starter for Lecce since being promoted to their first team in 2023.

I have a feeling that each has what the other needs. Barco looks like a little genius with the ball but his physicals at premier league level are going to hold him back. Might need a change in position. Dorgu looks like he's highly athletic but definitely a bit rough around the edges.

Lecce are terrible. While you're right and this doesnt change that he hasnt established himself at a european team - they're much better teams hes been at than Lecce, and Boca are better than them too

Pretty good move by Chelsea/Boehly. Strange Brighton are already giving up on him though no?

How is it pointless? He's clearly good enough in an attacking sense that the coach has decided to deploy him further forward.

It’s pointless because he’s not been playing at LWB. He’s been playing higher up the pitch at RW so obviously he’s going to have better attacking stats than other LWB or LB.

Pointless stat when he’s playing RW this season.

He's played RW 10 times this season.

He's also played LB 7 times, LM 3 times, RB twice and LW once.

He’s played 7 games at LB and twice at RB. 9 total at FB/WB.

Compared to the 10 games he’s played at RW.

Just another example of penny pinching. He might turn out to be a decent player and anything is better than what we have at lb but he's not exactly the caliber of player we need right now. We act like Brighton and before everyone says yeah Brighton do well. Yes for a small club they are awesome but they finished 6th at the highest point and are usually what between 9th and11?. There are a million better LB's out there Kerkez, Ait-Nouiri, Antoinee Robinson, Nuno Mendes. Loads. And Im not having this we have no cash nonsense.
So you’re saying we should be better than Bournemouth or Brighton by signing Bournemouth players? Interesting thesis.

Seen the obligatory YouTube clips of him and he looks really good. Strong, athletic, good at attacking and defending. Can see why he would be perfect for the wb role. Oh and it seems he's quite versatile and can play on the right too!

I thought he looks better with the ball than without to be honest, and worry a bit about him capable of immediately being a first team option for us. If he ends up as the only incoming player for us this window, a lot of people would expect him to make a difference now but he may need some time to up his game.

Lads going to change the course of our season, like Bruno did under Ole when he first joined.
I think you''ll be disappointed. Looks a solid, appropriate signing to me but he's not that calibre of player. It's more about having one additional 'square peg for a square hole'.

Will probably get some minutes vs Leicester and then there's 9 days before the game at Tottenham and will be interesting to see if Dorgu starts in that one. You'd think he will with that much time to prepare him and the team to play with him in the side.

Hopefully he's what we need for that LWB position.

Exciting signing. I’m sure Amorim will turn him into a world beater like he’s doing with Amad

Estupinan is 27 and they bought Ferdi for a lot of money in the summer and has only started 3 games at full back and 2 times in midfield in the league despite being older and more experienced than Barco. They have Lamptey who has barely played but when he has recently hes done well. So they have a lot of attacking fullbacks/wingback options
