Patrick Dorgu | 2024/25 Performances

Really tired of seeing such technically limited footballers at the club. Physicality is super important yes but for God's sake is it too much to ask for a little finesse and talent.

His physicality will get him into great positions, his limitations will result in the majority of those chances breaking down or going nowhere.

Rough game for him and as others have said, he's raw. However, he's willing and eveything was just half a yard off in terms of his passing, dribbling, touch etc.

Impressive athletically and decent technically. It's just whether he can improve his consistency and whether he'll be in good enough of an environment (coaching, team mates and system) to kick on.

Decent technically, really?

Decent technically, really?

Yes I think he's got a decent technical base. He's far from great and tight or secure with his actions but he's doing the right things with the right approach; I don't mean that in a head down run/bumble with the ball forward Garnacho kind of way. Today it was off as I said in my previous post.

At some point we had pogba and matic in midfield. The guys who have since replaced are no where near those 2 at a technical level. Shaw definitely should be replaced but this kid seems to be a level or 2 lower than shaw technically. Same goes for Hojlund/Martial. Better athletes who dont seem to measure up to their predecessors on technique.

66% accuracy and won around 40% of his duels. He has a very lazy way of passing the ball, except when he crosses.

I don’t understand how he could be tired when he missed a game already.

He clearly played the game after getting a heavy knock, possibly a dead leg? Way too early to pass judgement on him either way.
Let's not forget that some here were proclaiming Darmian as the next Neville (Gary) after a couple of decent games.

Poor game tonight. I like seeing him there instead of Dalot but wasn't good and hopefully better performance incoming at OT next week, we'll need it.

The caf already writes him off. Welcome to Manchester United!
Where?

It doesnt take years to see that his technique or ball playing ability isn't his strongest asset. He's a good athlete, young and works hard. He can make a career here but doesn't seem to have innate world class ability.

I think he started well but the contacted injury affected him. Also I don't think the previous sending off helped his confidence either.

Still worth remembering, he's been here only weeks and still young, cut him some slack

That’s fair, so obviously wasn’t referring to you. He didn’t have a bad game, his first half was quite good, so don’t get some of the criticism

I can forgive him this bad game.
Don't think he would have played the entire game if we had a stronger bench.
Was really suprised he could continue and even finish the game. He must have felt somethning for sure

I was really impressed that he found himself in great positions to receive the ball in space in the attacking third. If we can get a similar player on the right, the team will actually be dangerous. However, technically, he seems extremely limited. His short passing seems awful, always underhit or something. His control in tight spaces seems poor from what I have seen of him. I think €25 million was a fair price in the end, he will offer a lot but we have to accept his limitations for now and hope he can improve with coaching.

I think that's fair enough, but those are still things that can be worked on. The PL trend at the moment is going more athletic, so having that will stand him in good stead.

I think people forget that we needed someone for that left side in January that wasn't going to bankrupt us. He's a good age and good price, even if you have to upgrade at some point. That's how you build though, buy better than what you have, then buy better than that guy when you get the opportunity.

You don't need 11 world class players to win titles anyway.

It’s way too early to know if Dorgu will make it. Evra took time to bed in too and he turned out alright.

The problem is that Amorim’s system is so defensive that we need creative wing backs to balance it. Last night showed that we are way off having that balance so I hope Dorgu can develop quickly.

Yeh I think people are ignoring this.

I really like his physicality and athleticism - has a bit of bite about him (bit too much the other day I guess).

He gets into good positions quite often and appears to understand the wing back role well for a 20 year old - his delivery really needs work though

But last night the WBs were very attacking? They were at the heart of most of our good attacking play.

This is where people are getting confused. The system isn't inherently defensive. It isn't meant to be a back 5, the WBs are meant to basically push up and play a wingers.

Anyway, probably not the right thread for that discussion.

Thought he was a bit sloppy with his passing yesterday. Gave away the ball needlessly a few times in the second half. Other than that, I thought he defended fairly well and he gets up the field really well on that wing - always seems to be there.

His crossing needs to improve, but at least he gets into position to cross and actually does it, unlike his counterpart on the right.

I'm optimistic about him.

Yeah I’m baffled by people thinking we play defensively. We’re just so shit in attack it seems defensive

Hang on, are people actually writing him off already or just taking the mick? Surely we can give the lad 6months to settle in before thinking long term.

I think he looks a decent player who came in at a reasonable price on a low wage. We'll need a good few more of those before this squad turns around.

Yes he's showing the value of crossing early. Even when his crossing wasn't good it created issues for Sociedad because they weren't settled. And he could have had two assists from getting into the box himself. I'm cautiously optimistic.

I saw a video of our chances against RS and he looked pretty good. Crossing could be better but at least he's creating something.

Yeah, and sometimes a cross that doesn’t find a teammate can lead to a poor clearance and a dangerous situation - especially if midfielders are aggressive.

He is still a kid. We need one more left wing back like Kerkez or anyone who is about to enter peak.

So far he's as I expected. A Wan Bissaka style player on the left. Let's see if he steps up though

Yeah he also has the Wan Bissaka kinda lazy jog back that always annoyed me a bit. Top speed a bit slower than wan bissaka, but that's probably a better comparison than Dalot. Not really a wing back, but a solid, unspectacular full back.

He had a bad game. I'm impressed with what I've seen of him prior to last night so not too worried, the whole team is a dysfunctional mess at the moment.
