Patrick Dorgu | 2024/25 Performances

He looks very promising, deserved red, needs to communicate clearly with defence. Having said that onana has no place coming out for that long pass.

I felt he was unlucky with the red. Hit the ball first and his leg slid above it, we've seen so many of those not given this year itself. Very bright before that, we actually have someone who can cross from the left.

Unlucky with both the goal (Onana should also have been in his box) and the red. Apart of that he was probably our best player... He´s going to be a great player for us. I´m sure of that.

Cant remember the last time a wide player was putting balls into the box first time, actually thinking of someone else to score

Mistakes happen, he was playing good before it too.
1st goal is mostly Onana's fault

I thought this too. He got the ball and his foot wasn't high. Would have been considered a normal challenge 10 years ago. Games gone soft.

0/10 performance according to some..

2 massive mistakes, but yeh i actually thought he was doing great. Definitely an indication of what he can contribute.

I gave him a 2, despite the fact he looked good for most of the first half.

But a 6.5/10 type of performance has to come down drastically when you are mainly at fault for giving away a guaranteed goal (that literally must have been 0.99xG) and then get sent off before HT. There's no 2 ways about it, he almost single-handedly cost them the game with two poor moments.

The xG for the first goal was 0.96. I pretty much fully blame Onana for that though.

Finally we have a player who bullies opponents off the ball rather than vice versa.

Exactly my thoughts. We were bullied for so long before. I quite like what saw yesterday regarding this. Hopefully this will encourage others to be more brave.
Mazraoui has done great job knocking down Delap.

Hope he doesn't let that last night impact him too much. Needs it out of his system quickly, hope the right people are around him at the club today.

Very poor on the first goal and then bookended by a poor challenge for the red card. He looked a bit dangerous with Garnacho down the left before that, made some good runs but not finding quality balls into the box. A very bad night in the end but with some positives before he was sent off

He had an absolute shocker last night, gifted Ipswich a tap in for their first goal then was sent off for an awful challange.

They need to change the rules regarding winning the ball. Balls roll, the foot rolling over the ball in the follow through is natural.

Also, funny that both Casemiro and Dorgu have been sent off for a follow through after winning the ball first, but when it happened with Van Dijk, he never got a red for the same thing.

Yup. It's mad really. We always do this, neglect the glaring deficiencies in the team until there's at least a few more and then get back to it. Like the right wing, do nothing for years and years... then greenwood emerges and we sign Sancho and Antony. Midfield. Signing old players who can't run anymore Casemiro, Basti, Matic. Players on huge money who don't want to tackle, Pogba and Rashford. Playing players in the wrong role, Fred, Bruno, Mount, Rooney, Mata, Fellani, McT... Signing crap short term strikers while really good players moved on a fraction of the wages with twice the impact. Having only one out and out striker this season who is 22. Gk DDG to Onana is starting to look like a bust. Having one left back who can't stay fit until Dorgu came in. It goes on and on. Most serious fans would have done a much much better job troubleshooting this squad and with hires that made sense in the post Fergie era. None of it makes sense anymore. Bruno and Amad look to be the only players we've got a bit of luck with and who knows what Amad is going to come back like now.

It was a red by the way the rules are nowadays, so can't complain.

As you say though, we do still see some wrongly get away with similar even with VAR. But that was never going to happen this game, not after the usual media furore about the Everton non-penalty a few days earlier. We were never going to get any benefit of doubt for the next few games, we never do (which is obviously why the media do it, to try to influence future decisions). Not that it needed that extra media pressure in this case, as it was a clear red.

That’s very harsh. The first goal was mainly on Onana and the red card he was unfortunate with as he won the ball first but in doing so his foot went over the top of it and into Hutchinson’s fully extended leg which was only there because of a poor touch he took.

1st goal is mostly Onana's fault

Dorgu had multiple options available to him like putting it out of play or leaving it for his keeper to pick up but inexplicably decided to role it past the keeper instead and gift the Ipswich player a tap in, how anyone can put any blame on Onana for that I dont know.

Two Europa games either side of the Arsenal match...so basically he can miss one match, play the next etc.

No huge drama.

I think it's 50-50. Onana rightly criticised for rushing off his line as he did, and seemingly not calling for it (emphasis on seemingly, I know we can't tell for certain). But Dorgu also to blame for playing the back pass blind and not checking where Onana was, when he had the time to do so or other options available to him.

But then went on to further poor mistakes - Dorgu a rash tackle, probably a little over eager to make up for his part in the opening goal. And yes a little unlucky that his follow through was the issue. And Onana even more at fault for the second goal, letting a weak cross from the touchline end up getting past him.

So a poor night for both. Though Onana's is the biggest long term worry as it's just a continuation of many mistakes from a senior player; whereas for the younger Dorgu, new to the club and league, it was the first examples of major errors.

Not for the league games no. And good that he's available for the EL. It just leaves a big hole on the left side for the upcoming FA Cup game. Now no Martinez, Shaw, Amad or Dorgu. So all our left footers are out.

And no Dorgu or Amad also takes away a lot of our pace / mobility / work rate / threat on the ball away. We badly need one or the other, ideally both.

Hope that match wasn't the beginning of the downturn into the utter shit served up by most of the squad.

Unfortunate mistake and red, but he has shown me enough promising signs for now. Shame he won't be available for a few games.

Also, the reaction in the matchday thread was a bit too much. I get it, we're in a bad period but I saw so many versions of

"another low IQ"
"clown"
"donkey"
"brainless"

we're making it so tough for some of these kids, but alas

Feel sorry for him as the usual snipers will highlight his role in the opener (more on Onana) whilst the sending-off, though correct, was harsh.

He played well. He's not Roberto Carlos, but made his tackles (sic), played the right pass, was always open, didn't get bullied.

We had clicked until his card last night. Playing with a surprising degree of optimism and panache. I thought Yoro deserved the MOTM award, personally.

Keep it up, lads.

Yeah, that's really dumb. I actually liked how his head didn't drop after the initial mistake. He still seemed assured and confident before he got the red card. Bit of a rotten evening for him in the end, but I like what I've seen. Certainly our best out-and-out wingback now.

Onana was brainless on the first goal but it's not like Dorgu is blind and cannot see where the goalkeeper is, it was a very simple play to make, just boot the ball the feck out of the stadium and scream at Onana.

I think there's nothing wrong in admitting:

1) He looks good as a wingback

2) The goal was a total brainfart. Onana is a fecking idiot, yes, but there's absolutely no way you should tap the ball in THAT direction. You literally should do anything BUT what he did

3) Rash challenge, stonewall red card, no two ways about it. Yes, he didn't mean it but couldn't avoid what could have been a leg breaker, that's the definition of reckless and out of control

Fortunately, the last two are things that you can learn from and cut out. What you can't easily do/learn is being a proper wingback (just ask Dalot) or not being fazed by making such a monumental feck up at Old Trafford so early after your big move

As I write that, Paddy comes to mind, here's hoping!

Hopefully stupid isn't contagious otherwise this kid might be in danger playing so close to onana and Maguire. Thank God they won, takes the heat off big time. Otherwise all the pundits would slating him.

Great post.
