Paolo Di Canio

Agree. But if PDC is on board, at least we will see the 4-4-2 formation more often rather than the odd 4-5-1.

I think you would see Ole playing majority of PL games with Utd playing 4-4-2, When Fergie wants to play 4-5-1 against better teams or in european games Di Canio would get the hole position suppporting Ruud. He is made for it. As I said previously Di Canoi is the man for the job and I agree with SAF, we would have won the PL and possibly the CL WITH Di Canio Last season.

PDC will deliver, but I think that both Ole and PDC can be used in both the 4-4-2 and 4-5-1. Look at the goals UTD scored yesterday, Ole was playing through on two of the three goals. He has grown into more than just a guy who waits for his chance in the box.
PDC is probably more of a Cantona type of player, and will be almost as successful, i`m sure!

PDC is all about Ego. He'll be happy coming on as sub for us for 20 minutes and being loved. It might be all his ageing legs are up to.

Let Forlan and Ole take turns in losening teams up then PDC can come on and do his stuff late on. 20 minutes for Man Utd is better than a whole season for West Ham

(no offence)

:)

You know that PDC has just recently had cruciate ligament surgery? Not sure if he'd pass the medical yet.

None taken.

(Can't speak for WH fans though). :)

What's wrong with a bit of short term?
We need a 4th striker now, not next year. PDC will be an excellent short term solution, as long as plans are in place for a replacement!

If we are going to get Crespo then we don't need Di Canio.

Personally I find him a little bit eccentric, talented but inconsistent.

Did you not think that Eric was a bit eccentric? Didn't seem to do him much harm! :D

But has to be said, there is only one Eric.

hear here...

di canio ain't in the same class.... infact he ain't fit enough to lace eric's boots.

All the negative descriptions on PDC is exactly the same as Eric was labeled with...

As more as i think of it, PDC will be a superb buy - and will probably rise to the challenge and be just great!

Crespo will probably never happen, and UTD will probably buy short term this season if they are going for a 4th striker. Then PDC is all we need.

Forlan/Ole/RVN will probably all get more time on the pitch, but we need all the quality that is offered by PDC. He is the kind of player who can score last minute goals and shine in CL games, a new super sub if u want with technique great with free kicks and can provide the unexpected if RVN/Ole doesn`t shine.

No United contact over di Canio

Gettin di canio would be brilliant, his play is something that is different that the other strikers... he'll add a different dimension.

Also for all those thinking ole or ruud should change squad numbers piss off or buy my #10 and #20 jerseys and i'll order new ones you twits... squad #'s mean shite if the player performs

I can confirm that it was in the newspapers on yesterday - just as I said it would

The Di Canio rumours are probably more hogwash dreamt up by some newspapers for sales but:

I think he will be extremely valuable.

Forget about the number and whether OGS is first choice.....OGS knows his worth and knows about teams winning trophies and I dont Utd have never treated him with disrespect: hence he stays....BUT Di Canio may provide us with that little bit we seem to be missing against teams that clog up the midfield and defend....

He has flair, skill, is quick (in the head)and has the kind of drive that can take a team forward. He's a (red) devil in disguise.

The only question should be is whether SAF can tame him.

But will you sign him as the papers on yesterday suggested?

Surely you know?

You don't know????

You wanna have a word with your contacts!

See if what was reported in the papers on yesterday was true...

It was my mate who told me it would be in the paper - he knew nothing about the validity of it.

Does he have contacts with the club, or just contacts with the publishers of the papers on yesterday?

He has contacts at most places where football is concerned

Why?

Just wondering...it seems strange there's a transfer rumour involving Man Utd, and that you don't know the validity of it..

merely the fact that is was going to be in the papers on yesterday...

Why? No more than 3-4 people (including Kenyon and Sir Alex) know everything that's going on at the club.

From Sky Sports:

West Ham have rubbished reports that veteran striker Paolo di Canio is again the subject of interest from Manchester United.

The former champions were keen to sign the veteran Italian last March and rumours of a move north for Di Canio have surfaced again.

But Hammers spokesman Peter Stewart insisted: "It's just speculation. We've had no approach from Manchester United.

"Constant speculation doesn't help the manager - but it's the way football is now. Most clubs have to endure it at some point or other."

Sounds like we're being baited to bid to me.

I'm a bit worried that PDC is being compared so much to The King. The last thing a 34 year old Italian hot head needs is an unfair start like that

I would have thought that you and Ruddy make up the 4 that no everything....

I feel a bit let down that you only knew what would be in the papers on yesterday..

Do you know that for a fact? Or is it just mere speculation on your part?

What do you know about the reports re Di Canio that appeared in the papers on yesterday?

many of you couldn't see Rivaldo in the 11, because of his attitude and ego
secondly, football reasons: that he'd upset the style of play

of course, i disagreed, and pointed out that Rivaldo could be used in different ways, either as a deep linking forward or p-box poacher

but with di Canio, i have to say he's trouble and more trouble than Rivaldo, because he simply has to be the boss,

first, Keano and di Canio together on the pitch? we risk imploding...

second, di Canio and Veron vying for possession? could turn out to be a nightmare...

if we're gonna play Veron, (and that means play Veron-style) he has to be the one who controls the play, it simply doesn't work any other way for him, and to combine with that, it's better to have good finishers in Ruud and Ole playing up front, rather than 'hole' players ...

third, it made sense in Jan. when a short-term solution was required, but now we should be looking at building a base of 4 forwards who have a few years in them, playing together - it's not that we need 'youth' but we certainly don't need a 34 y.o. on his last legs - unless the board's going to bid for Ronaldinho next summer, di Canio is a bad idea
on that track, how many think he has more than a season at the top level left in him? 3m for one season doesn't seem like a good option to me now, when there is still time to look around for a 4th striker...

btw, anyone have the stats on PdC's goal-record?

Its because you need to have the last word in any debate....
