Owen Hargreaves

A strong midfielder who can link play, pick a pass and take a great set piece? And is also happy being part of a squad setup?

Sign him up. :)

feck it i want him back , fergie sign him up!

west Brom not looking likely...

Free agent Hargreaves is looking to relaunch his injury-ravaged career after leaving Manchester United, but Hodgson doubts whether a deal will be struck.

He said: “Owen has been in contact with Dan Ashworth and I think he wants to meet up with us, but we’ve got to be realistic.

“We’re talking about a player who hasn’t played for three years. He is a big name player but so is Bobby Charlton!

“I think one of the last games Hargreaves played was in my first season at Fulham which is over three years ago, so we’ve got to be realistic.”

Indeed, probably what he's going to hear from most clubs.

definitely the worst signing ever under Ferguson

i didnt think anyone would be worse than Saha in terms of being injury prone until Hargo came along

definitely the worst signing ever under Ferguson

Was influential in the season that won us both the league and the CL. That alone makes him worth the transfer fee.

So far Bebe takes the prize, although its early days.

Was Hargreaves a bad signing though? I don't think it was a coincidince we were the best team in the World in his first season when he remained fit...

I dont really think its fair to call someone a shit signing on the basis that they got injured.

Eh? For all his woes, Hargreaves had a greater postive influence on the team and only cost half as much as Seba Veron - a far worse signing.

Verón basically cost 13m - we recouped more than half of his fee which is relevant in this context. Also, we paid Hargreaves' wages for four years - overall, he cost the club a lot more than Verón.

Financially, Hargreaves was a worse signing than Veron, that's for sure. But when Hargeaves was fit he was more useful to us.

And our insurances covered this.

Did it? I don't know how that works to be fair but I imagine insurance companies wouldn't like a deal to be constructed like that or else we'd be paying astronomical fees.

I'm just wondering if C. Ronaldo with his 31 league goals (42 total) had some role in that success as well...

Also, I'm pretty sure we were just as dominant the next year when Hargo made a grand total of 2 appendices. So just how influential he was is debatable. Frankly I think he was given far more credit for improving the team then actual fact. He was definitely a good player, but we were a very strong team then as well.

We weren't as good the following season, yes we made it into CL final but we didn't really play that well especially in the league.

Sven-Goran Eriksson has confirmed that he has spoken to the players agent, but talks have gone no further than that.

Speaking to the BBC Eriksson confirmed his interest in the 30 year old ex Manchester United player by saying.

'I've spoken to the agent now, it depends totally on Owen. I don't know if he is fit or if he wants to play, if he wants to speak to us, we are more than willing. I have always said if he's fit, Owen is a great player.'

What? I don't understand.

West Brom could meet with Owen Hargreaves as early as next week as they continue their interest in the former England international.

Albion have already been in contact with Hargreaves, who has been released Manchester United after playing only 27 games in the past four years due to chronic knee problems and the Baggies' sporting and technical director Dan Ashworth has revealed he is hoping to set up a meeting with the 30-year-old.

Ashworth, who insists West Brom contacted Hargreaves well before the player released his YouTube clips in an apparent attempt to dispel doubts about his fitness, said on his club's official website: "He's based over in the United States at the moment so we might try to get to meet him in the next week or so and see if he would consider coming to us."

He added: "If Owen is fit to play Premier League football, it is a no-brainer.

"Make no mistake, Owen Hargreaves is a fantastic player. He's shown he's a top, top player from his England, Manchester United and Bayern Munich days.

"Obviously, Owen has had a few medical issues over the last few years. But we would be absolutely delighted to get a fit Owen Hargreaves.

"That would be a wonderful signing for us."

Ashworth added: "The three things we've got going for us are: one, we're in the Premier League, which is attractive in itself; the second thing is we've got a fantastic medical team. We had an unbelievable hit-rate last season in terms of player availability.

"I think that's attractive to Owen, that we've got a proven track record in the last couple of years of maintaining players and keeping them out on the pitch, which is the most important thing.

"Thirdly, we were the first club to contact him. He's told me that, and he appreciates that. I'd like to think we`ve got a chance - but Owen has plenty of other options as well."

Is it just me that finds it a little surreal that Ashworth is trying to sell his club to Hargreaves by saying "we have a fantastic medical team".

You couldnt make this stuff up.

As good as United's medical team? Also, if the best orthopaedic surgeons in America couldn't fix the problem fully, what chance for Albions lot?

given our luck with injury prone players, i would not be surprise if hargo makes 15-20 appearances for west brom next season if he signs for them.

Saha is still injury prone but he manages a few game post-United. I'd rather see him there than a proper rival.

Hodgson remain interested to sign him, but want assurances if he will be fit and injury-free. ouch...

That's like getting assurance that a balloon isn't going to pop in a room of needles..

To be honest, I think he should call it a day.

It's a crying shame whats happened with him and a loss to football. he didn't ask for all these injuries and I'm sure he's frustrated and wants to prove a point, but I'm worred for him really. If he gets another serious injury on his knees it could feck him up for life. it's not as he really needs the money ...
