Yeah, I guess after a 2year + layoff, it was very wishful thinking that he wont get any niggling injuries along the way to fitness.

The less news about the knees, the better.

just wait until someone tackles him, his knees will probably fall off

oh dear, when he got injured against Wolves, it was stated to be 5 weeks, look like it be much more longer.

This is his last year with us isnt it? I mean his contract expires summer 2011?

Knowing our luck we'll let him go and he'll regain his fitness somewhere else! Yes i know hes done nothing to get another contract with us (bar his first season)

Don't know why we keep getting excited about a possible Hargreaves comeback.

Never going to happen, we won't see him play consistently in a United shirt again.

Its a no brainer really. The amount of money he costs us every month is a lot. No one is going to buy him from us. I doubt a lot of teams will even be in for him when we let him at the end of the season. If he is not fit by the end of the season, then I don't know how he is going to prove his fitness for another team to be interested.

Manchester United set to offload crock Owen Hargreaves for a £34.5million loss - News - MirrorFootball.co.uk

Manchester United are set to take an incredible £34.5million hit on Owen Heargreaves by allowing the injury-plagued England midfielder to leave Old Trafford for free at the end of the season.

Hargreaves has made just 39 appearances for United since joining the club in the summer of 2007 and has just six months left on his contract.

The former Bayern Munich star was crippled by tendonitis in both knee which eventually required surgery.

And his attempt at a comeback against West Brom in October was ended after five minutes when he tore a hamstring.

United were prepared to offer Hargreaves a play-as-you-play deal if he could prove that he had conquered his fitness problems.

But Sunday Mirror Sport understands that as the midfielder nears his 30th birthday next month even that option has been vetoed.

And clubs in England and on the continent have already been made aware that he will be available at the end of the season.

Hargreaves cost United £18million when United finally persuaded Bayern to sell after protracted negotiations.

His £80,000-a-week wages will have added more than £16.5million to the cost by the end of the campaign.

Hargreaves has made just 26 starts for United – which will work out at an astonishing £1.33million a match when his transfer fee and salary are taken into account.

He was suffering with knee problems when he arrived at the club, but it was decided that rest rather than surgery was the best option and he won both Premier League and Champions League medals in his first season.

United turned to world-famous knee specialist Dr Richard Steadman for a cure and Hargreaves underwent an operation on his right knee in November 2008 before having a procedure on his other knee two months later.

I'm sure that United (and all other clubs) buy injury insurance covering wages of most of their top players. Too easy for one bad tackle to turn a top player into an injury-plagued has-been.

I think we'll be assessing Hargreaves at the end of the season. Not much risk of another club snapping up a 30-year-old who hasn't played for 2.5 seasons and would ask for fairly high wages.

I think the only thing that will be assessed about Hargreaves in the offseason is whether we decide to go Elmer's or Scoth when we send him to the glue factory.

United aren't going to offload Hargreaves if he gets fit. He'll have the rest of the season to prove whether or not he can.

I think if he can prove his fitness to us in the next six months, then we might keep him give him a pay-as-you-play deal otherwise, I think it is the end of the road for Hargreaves.

Things aren't as straight forward as they used to be thanks to the 25 player limit rule.

Pay as you play deal is surely the way to go. Muscle strains are bound to happen at this level after coming back from such a lengthy lay off. I think SAF will give him the rest of the season and depending on his progress a pay as you play deal or an extension might be given.

Can't see the club just letting him go on a free like that after spending 18 million pounds and endless medical fees and time on him. We'll renew his contract like the Michael Owen one, probably a 3 year one.

If he doesn't get a steady run of games in by the end of the season I can't see any sense in keeping him on, especially with the squad limit now.

Giggs, Scholes, Neville could depart this season, plus i reckon a couple more like Gibson freeing up spaces.

Id rather see us convince Scholes/Giggs/Gibson to remain for one last year then stick to Hargreaves.

He was back in the hospital today :)

With a fixture log jam looming... even getting a handful of games out of him in the new year would be a bonus

Ps... the one on the right, or the one on the left???

The one on the left looks like she's good to go... and because she's a little bigger, probably knows whats expected.
