Players' wages are covered by insurance in case of an injury? I didn't even know such a thing existed.

Not sure how it works in England but, we can buy Insurance called Short Term Disability (STD) and Long Term Disability (LTD) through Insurance companies. STD pays 66% of salary but, I can't remember how long you have to be out for or a maximum before LTD starts to kick in.

Can't remember how the LTD one works.

Am sure private insurance has something similar there.

When's he actually back then? This coming Thursday?

If we could get him up and running, what an option to have in the squad. Pity he can't be in the CL squad.

I wouldnt get your hopes up!

Why has the thread been renamed? The "Hargreaves back in 3 weeks" title was just too good to ditch. The irony and humour has been lost from this thread by trimming the title :(

Its absolutely none of your business. If it irks you that much, go post in another thread.

Well so far so good, we've not heard he's going to see his specialist this week, so the signs are good for all systems go.

If he get's the game under his belt, and if he's happy to push forward, I can see Hargreaves putting in a bit of effort in to get really match fit and quicker than I think we here are anticipating. I was over at the BBC website reading one of there articles about the potential WC squad. Now he's no where near the radar just yet, he's not played, and we have no idea what he's going to be like etc. However, with Beck's gone, with questions over the right back slot, if he comes back, and get's some games under his belt, he could find himself in the squad, which wouldn't be too bad of a thing, as he needs games right now.

I think that could be the incentive that he needs for him to make some genuine progress in his recovery. This is hyperthetical of course, but it's something that both Fergie and Capello for that matter might try and use with him, to over come what ever issues have been causing him problems during his recovery.

Injury or no injury

This is practically a re-birth of his career and almost like a whole new signing has arrived. And thusly our anticipation should be to our usual standards for new signings.

I'll be expecting
1. at minimum a hat-trick ( all volleys outside the area )
2. kiss the badge
3. putting on a G&G scarf at the end of the match.

We will be watching Mr.Hargreaves.

Seeing him on a pitch and having him get through the reserve match unscathed and with growing confidence that he can come back will be good enough for me.

I accidentally began reading the posts at the beginning of this thread without realising they're 5 months old. It's like this thread is stuck in time and unless we delete it, Hargreaves will be close to making return for ever. I urge the Mods give this some serious consideration. Ignore this at your ow(e)n peril

I think he could make an impact at the end of the season. Gary Neville was written off as having no hope of returning when he was out for a long time and he is doing ok. Hargreaves is younger and you would expect him to come back strong! Great player to have in the squad.

 Apart from the fact that Fergie may well be dead by the time Hargo plays again.

Seriously though, I'm not expecting much but I'm very excited at the thought of him coming back.

He wasn't around when we had that kit

I have been waiting on something like that all week but seriously if he can be got fully fit it would be a great boost for our last few games

Sure he will be.
But honestly, I wouldnt be fussed one bit if he only plays in reserve games for the remainder of the season without any other injuries. Get his confidence, fitness upto the required level.

Some of us may need some emotional support.:(

 Blind rage and suicidal tendencies will be the order of the day.

I also thought the return match was tonight. So many people have said that, let's try and have someone off, to the people who post next, post about how good Hargo was tonight.

So no news is good news? This match might fit into his training schedule so... It'll be interesting. If he does play, I'd expect a 2 minute cameo at the end.

Owen Hargreaves still harbours hopes of England World Cup place

• Midfielder to make return in reserve fixture tonight
• 'Capello was happy how I played for England'

Owen Hargreaves has not ruled out his chances of playing in the World Cup this summer although he admits he would need to make "progress pretty quick" in order to convince Fabio Capello of his fitness.

The Manchester United midfielder is due to make his return in a reserve match against Burnley in Altrincham tonight, having spent 18 months out of the game with tendinitis in both knees.

Now 29, Hargreaves is still unsure of how his knees will stand up to competitive football but remains optimistic that he can play again at the highest level.

"The World Cup is an incentive. Absolutely. But I need to see progress now, pretty quick, for the World Cup to become even a realistic option," he told the Daily Telegraph.

"[Capello] was happy with how I played for England. When he saw me play for Man United he was happy with how I played. Whether in Germany or England, a manager has always played me, especially to win big games. Maybe he sees that and would like me to have an impact on the World Cup. I would love that."

Such an outcome would help soothe the memories of a torturous period for the Canada-born player. "I could never have imagined in my darkest dreams something like this would happen to me," he said. "My athletic ability has taken me everywhere I wanted to go, from Canada to Germany, playing for England, playing for Man United. To have that temporarily taken away is humbling."

Hargreaves believes that the problem began in 2007, when he rushed to overcome a broken leg sustained while playing for Bayern. "I didn't have the same quality muscle as before. Instead of muscles taking the shock absorption, my tendon was. But when I got an ache, I didn't stop. I kept playing.

"It wasn't dealt with the way it should have been initially. I saw so-called specialists who said 'this is what you need and you will have absolutely no reaction' and I had a massive reaction. You like to think you will get the best advice possible but that is not always possible."

Hargreaves, nonetheless, rejected the idea that he might adapt his competitive style of play when he finally does return to United colours. "Injuries take time. It's not a question of can I go into a 50-50? I wouldn't hesitate in the slightest. It's more about managing my training, making sure I don't do too much. If I play, shall I do 30 minutes? 40 minutes? Only I can feel it. If you have had double knee surgery you're going to feel it."

I feel sorry for the bloke and it's not his fault but he doesn't sound anywhere near mentally ready to force his way into the team (for England or United).
