Both of them will go into a 50-50 and pick up knocks that will keep them out the rest of the season

From what I've seen of Aquilani, he doesn't look like a player that would fancy going into a 50-50

He doesn't look very good either, but I suppose he is just coming back from injury

Then again he's a player that has a nicknamed purely because of the number of injuries he gets. Odd signing from Rafa

Pretty sure if both of them pull out of the 50-50, they'd both get injured anyway...

I think he could be still some way short of game time despite training with the Reserves, but we'll see.

Owen Hargreaves has handed Manchester United fans some much-needed good news.

The News of the World says Hargreaves gave Manchester United and England a massive boost yesterday by playing his first game for 16 months.

The midfielder took part in a specially arranged practice match at United's Carrington training ground.

He has not played for the first team since the 1-1 draw against Chelsea on September 21, 2008.

There have been fears that Hargreaves might never recover from tendinitis in his knees.

But he lasted the full 90 minutes yesterday.

Hargreaves and Ferdinand Close To Comebacks
News | Harry | January 10, 2010 at 8:36 pm
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Manchester United have been boosted by the news that both Rio Ferdinand and Owen Hargreaves could return for the club by the end of this month.

Hargreaves played a full 90 minutes in a specially arranged practice match at United’s Carrington training ground on Saturday, a significant step in his long road to recovery from a recurring knee injury.

Ferdinand, who has only started five Premier League games all season, has also been pencilled in for a return in United’s game against Hull at Old Trafford on 23rd January.

A back injury has troubled the England star for much of 2009 and he made his last appearance for the side in October’s 2-0 defeat at Liverpool.

Sir Alex Ferguson seems to be encouraged by his progress, saying: “I’m very happy with Rio’s progress, he has been doing a lot of running and could be back in action in two weeks. But one thing is certain, having waited this long we will not bring him back until he’s 100 per cent.”

In addition to being brilliant news for all United fans, this could be a massive boost for England and Fabio Capello as both will surely figure in the upcoming World Cup if fit.

Maybe SAF is talking in biblical terms. You know x days = x years depending on how it fits your view of everything. So it's open to personal interpretation and much speculation. Personally, I'm starting to think Hargreaves never existed. I haven't seen him in months and am really considering his periodic appearances in 07-08 was simply a hologram. With the credit crunch the Glazers have put stop to the expensive hologram machine.

Throw them both into the Liverpool reserve game, with the Carling Cup the reserve side will be a little depleted.

Rafael is fine against some clubs but for CL and most league matches I'd like Hargreaves in there. Especially when Brown is not fit and Neville has looked horrible. Granted O'Shea should return soon I think. It's his crossing and pace that sets him apart from all other potential RBs with the club. Though his pace may have dropped off some with the long layoff.

This could just be the plan if they are both ready

We'll probably see a strong Carling Cup side, maybe Diouf or Obertan at a strech Gibson but the rest will be senior players ... I would be surprised if Fletcher, Rooney and Evra didn't make the matchsquad at least.

N is the square root of minus pi squared ... it's complex.

hate to be a nerd but the squareroot of -pi squared = pi or minus pi

which means you are predicting him to be back in negative time ot a tad of 6 weeks

I'm getting that warm/excited/relieved/energized feeling you get when you hear the cavalry coming.

Can't wait to see Hargreaves destroy someone and stand over them and pull a Leonidas.

Wouldn't it be ironic if it was the return of Hargreaves and Nani (who the caf deem as useless players) come to save the day.

Considering he hasn't played football for what seems like 1 season and a half now.

I wouldn't get your hopes up too much. I can't see him ousting Fletcher anyway.
