Gaming Overwatch

nice. I´ll travel for ~2 weeks in the end of may/beginning of April, so I´ll miss the launch, but I´ll definitely pick it up afterwards.
Maybe #redcaf will conquer the world.

Sweet, didn't know you were traveling on a time machine ;)

Pre-ordered it off Amazon a month ago, says its been delivered today at 12:04...nothing.

Brilliant.

That was one hell of a launch by Blizzard. Almost no server problems and I was finding games within seconds.

Yeh I was really impressed that my first game had a waiting time of literally 1 second, shame I joined the game just in time to see the defeat screen!!

Anyone playing? It's brilliant!

I've tried the beta and really enjoyed it, but haven't bought the game yet. Think it's just a matter of time before I'll do it though. I like how important the teamwork is in this game.

Who else has been on this 24/7? I wasn't sure at first, but I am slowly becoming hooked.

Favourite heroes?

Me. It's taking over whatever free time I have. Tracer, Lucio, Reaper, Pharrah, McCree. Probably the best with Reaper and worst with McCree, but he's fun to play. When I'm feeling lazy I go with the turret guy on defense and rack up some easy kills.

Still feel a couple of maps have silly choke points that are almost impossible to break through when attacking unless you have a well coordinated team (which is unlikely). And teams full of people wanting to play the same hero can feck off.

Same. I'm at uni & I told myself it would be fine if I bought it during the week of my exams. Big mistake haha.

Tracer is fun but I am not so good with her - Lucio is definitely the most interesting to play with. I've been using a lot of Mercy, Genji, Widowmaker & Reinhardt. If we are attacking a room or enclosed space, I take Junkrat - spamming grenades in off the wall, you will guarantee top damage in the game. Fun to play, too.

That's the thing - quick play means you're normally in a team that solely consists of Widowmaker, Genji or Hanzo, regardless of whether it is attack or defend. I spent a few hours today playing with 5 friends, and it's much better that way. We were winning every game.

I just love playing attack on the Payload mode with three Widowmakers and a Hanzo in my team

Casual 20 kill streak, as you do. 6 kills in rapid succession for play of the game.

u lost, which means its the snipers fault, that's the rule.

Typical sniper cnut who'll always sit the feck back, not attack the point or move payload but will farm kills and then casually drop into internet forum to boast about the kills ratio.

Good job Karl.

By the way, I might have a spare hour or five on the weekend so I'll be playing on PC, if somebody wants to hook up then be my guest.

Just jumped straight on this without the tutorial or practice and picked whatever hero.....oops. Xbox One here....Blizzard seem to have hit another grand slam going by feedback even if the public pick up of the game is slow it seems as no one I know got it yet and all now umming and ahhing about it.

Couple hours later trying it out I think before getting probably involved.

Such a pleasant game, bought it yesterday and played a few games, it's actually a shooter I enjoy despite being terrible at shooters. I think it's mostly due to the fact that the diversity of characters is so strong that everyone will find someone who will suit them (so far for me it's been Winston, it's hard to kill him and he's very powerful in close encounters). I think I might devote some more time to it, it's good that games are very short meaning I can pick it up for half an hour in the morning and it's still plenty enough.

yep, it's why I enjoy it so much. Don't really have the time to play most online games anymore because they require so much investment, but with this it really feels like I can pick it up whenever and for however long I want and not be punished. it's so much fun.

True. Also, it is not so strongly focused on K/D ratio, you can suck ass and die a lot and still contribute to your team. Obviously it'd be better played in a team than with randoms but even going out there with a team you don't know is plenty of fun. With games like Battlefield and Call of Duty you need to dedicate some time towards improving you character, getting stronger level, here you can basically jump in and select a character and play.

We were defending!

Widowmaker gets hard countered by Winston anyway so it evens out. Genji wrecks her too, as well as Tracer and Reaper. Even Hanzo to an extent.

Just got it, which character would be best for a newbie

Most classes are pretty simple to pick up the basics, just a matter of getting used to how you should play them.

Ones to avoid at the beginning are maybe Mei as you can hurt your own team with dodgy wall placements, Widow is useless if you can't hit stuff or keep getting caught out, Genji is difficult until you really understand his mechanics, same with Tracer and Symmetra is pretty useless until you know what your doing.

Widow is much easier that Hanzo. Zenyatta is not noob-friendly as it's so easy to die.

@Simbo pick Soldier or McCree or Pharah on attack. Reinhart isn't difficult, neither are Lucio or Mercy. Junkrat is pretty straightforward and Bastion is super easy to play but he's been found out now I feel. Because of his high damage he's quickly countered.

I like that the K/D ratio isn't rewarded. Makes people focus more on the team play.

There was a guy who reached lvl 100 who posted an AMA on the Overwatch subreddit. Said that he only played Soldier/Pharah/Reaper. Got slaughtered for being such a shitty team player, never picking up support or tank. To each their own I guess but my friends and I have 50+ hours in this game and we make sure to switch things up. It's also really the point of the game to switch things up.

Yep, K/D is completely redundant in that game. Sometimes it's better to die a lot while defending and pushing your enemy further from target.

I am playing with Reinhardt as it's the character I feel most comfortable with. I'm not great at shooting but I usually find my way in close encounters and melee. It's great fun.

The mechanics and gameplay of this are superb but I can't help but think of how light it is on content. I fully expect Blizzard to healthily grow the game over the years but as it stands I think £40 may be a tad bit much. Its a £25 game in its current state IMO.

Still better value than most the shooters released in recent years though.

My Widowmaker K/D is 335/120. I actually prefer playing her on attack, because you can mop up all of the campers and it's easy to snap shot people at close range. Same with Hanzo 134/60 easily my two favourite heros. Also love Reaper/Genji/Tracer for purposefully distracting the other team and keeping them busy while we push the payload.
