Ousmane Dembele

Our new number 7, get used to it folks

Oh god, please no... He can't even cook his own food, clean his apartment nor show up at practice on time. My 10 year old is more reliable than this fraud.

I think we will end up with Dembele instead of Sancho.

If we do, hopefully he stays fit for us. I'm not sure we would regret taking him instead of Sancho in that case.

All those saying loan, what are your thoughts if we're actually about to buy him?
If the fee in the £40m range, I'd take it for the calculated gamble that it is, which would be a sum that might not necessarily preclude us from getting Sancho next year. My worry, however, is that when we buy him, irrespective of the sum, we will declare ourselves out of the Sancho equation, which would be a catastrophic decision.

Dembele as an option for the left and Sancho for the right would be great business.

Unfortunately, it is more likely to be at best one of them.

So is it Loan with Buy option, or Buy obligation?

Hope we don't buy him outright. Too risky.

Doesn’t Dembele play on the left though?

Quoting Jose but "United need a mad dog" in midfield. We're just a bunch of pushovers with Pogba and Matic.

Is there any chance the Last 12 hours has radically altered our targets, or if depay signs with Barca then it's pretty much confirmed we've got Dembele on loan?

Hope theres no obligation to buy.
Imagine getting him in loan then missing most of the season due to injury and still having to cash out for him. Would go down as our worst deal in years.

Sancho is our first choice, but I'd rather have Dembele on loan (and only on loan) than no one and rely on Greenwood or James for the season on the right.

It will not be that much an issue if we only pay part of this salary, the risk will not be huge.

And yes, I am pretty convinced too, that the imediate needs (now that Telles is almost done), is a new central defender but also a new central midfielder that will protect the back four

Sounds like a deal we would do though

If we are going for Dembele, then a CB has to be brought in that's if Sancho is off.

All ‘sources’ afaik seem to indicate Barca would only loan if there is an obligation to buy, which would be a bad move. If it is just a loan, it would be a good move though. Although our chances of signing Sancho would be lower next season.

This might be unpopular but if Demebele can stay fit he has potential to be a better signing than Sancho.

What do we think the chance is now of getting him on loan and spunking some of the Sancho kitty on a CB as a panic response to last night?

I assumed that all our CB targets are unavailable this year. So we will have to make do with what we have. Maybe through Mengi in there - how bad can he be

You never know maybe this ends up a blessing. He won’t need to play every game for us and maybe his ability and having a proper right winger to run at people is the change we need.

For all the talent he is, this is a bad fit I think, but its the best alternative we could have gotten.

Just hope we have an option to buy.

I’d still be surprised if Barca let him loan. He has a 2 year contract, so if he goes on loan he will be worth sod all next year. My guess would be that they will sell to us for 60m. That seems to be the most consistent figure quoted. For a player who has played 1 game in 2020, 30 games in 22 months, and has not played more then 4 games in a row. Anyone thinking this is a new robben/giggs needs to look at both their app records. Robben played 29 games in the season when “badly injured”. Giggs never played less than 37. Add to that he doesn’t want to be here, and 60m on him has to mean no sancho

Right lads, Barca need cash to balance their books. This is how the deal will be structured:
1. United to purchase Dembele outright today (~50m)
2. United will have the right to exercise an option that will require Barcelona to buy back Dembele at the end of the season for a set amount (~40m).
The difference between 1 and 2 (~10m) will effectively be the price of the loan, plus 2 gives us the option to keep him at the agreed price of ~50m.
This is pure speculation, but I'm willing to bet it is how the deal will be structured if it happens.

This is why he became a injury prone player when he never was one.

Sorry this is a big assumption people keep making. With no evidence at all!!

had dembele had an injury before at BVB , then recovered then you would have a point. The fact is that yes he had no injuries before, that doesn’t mean anything. He got a really bad injury when he was at Barca, since then he has never really made it back. Yes it COULD be down to Barca,or it could be he just has had a bad injury that keeps coming back.
